Hazy Eyes

"So are the rest of the guys coming over?" Nora asked.

"I don't think so, they've all got family shit going on so it's just you and me if that's cool." Matt responded.

"Ha, yeah, it's cool. I'm gonna turn on some music." Nora said as she walked over to the stereo system. She picked out an album to listen to a headed back to the couch. Matt was breaking some top shelf weed apart.

"Are you ready for this, Tennessee?" Matt said laughing.

"I'm really not sure but we'll find out!" Nora said, smiling.

They decided to go out on the balcony to smoke which was great for Nora, outside was her favorite place to smoke. 

Matt lit the joint and handed it to Nora. She took a small puff and held it in. As she exhaled she felt a wave of euphoria roll through her. She took one more hit, a bit bigger this time and coughed when she let it out. Her vision was beginning to change already. She looked at Matt, he smiled and quickly looked away to hit the joint again. Nora could have sworn he had been staring at her.

After they finished smoking they went back inside and sat on the couch while they listened to music in silence for a few minutes. Nora felt eyes on her so she turned to Matt. They made eye contact and just started laughing like some teenagers who had just smoked for the first time.

It was actually a nice feeling. Nora couldn't help but feel something different as well.

As the night went on they talked, smoked more, had a few drinks and listened to some obscure albums Nora had never even heard of. They talked more about Matt's divorce and Nora's breakup. It was actually really nice to have someone to relate to, it seemed everyone Nora knew was in a happy relationship. They talked about their childhoods and their dreams. Nora was feeling pretty open from the weed and beer, it was nice to have some real conversation. They even got some more writing done on a song they'd been working on.

She decided to step out on the balcony and have a cigarette and Matt came with her. She sat down on the cool concrete and Matt sat right beside her. Him being so close to her made Nora get butterflies again. When his arm brushed hers she got goosebumps. 

"What is going on with me?" She thought as she looked toward Matt. He smiled at her and she knew what was going on. She was getting a crush on him, like a high school girl.

"You know, Nora", Matt began, "I was kind of weary of letting a stranger from across the country come live at my house but I'm glad I went for it. You're such a cool, nice person and I've had a lot of fun with you. I was alone so much at night, it's nice to have someone to keep me company. Especially when it's a smart, beautiful girl like you."

Nora thought for a moment and Matt said "I'm sorry I shouldn't have said that, I don't want to make things weird between us."

Nora laughed, "no it's not weird, I've really enjoyed being here with you too."

Things went silent for a moment as Nora stared into the sky. She thought for a moment about destiny, about why she was here in that moment.

She looked at Matt, and he put his arm around her shoulder. They locked eyes for a moment, then he kissed her. It was just a quick kiss but the feeling it gave her made her giggle. Matt started laughing too. 

Honestly Nora was so messed up she didn't know what to think. All she knew was she liked it.
