a/n: merry christmas !!

The Christmas tree only had colored lights that blinked in sequence and small candy canes and red ornaments scattered sparsely across the green. There, at the top, a pretty metal star with pointed arms and paisley carved into it stood crooked. Throughout the small apartment there were small decorations here and there, and white lights hung from the ceilings around the perimeter and around the fan. Surprisingly, the small apartment was impeccably clean. There was a long couch in front of a long window exposing a view of the side of another apartment building and a tad bit of skyline in the city. It came to them relatively cheap, and they had only been in the apartment for about a week, just enough time to finally finish unpacking and decorating in their time off before Christmas.

Kageyama and Hinata, as a volleyball idiot duo, are now juniors in college.

After their time spent in high school, they grew closer and closer until eventually Hinata realized how he felt and exploded. He babbled to Kageyama about his emotions until Kageyama looked dizzy, and eventually after the shock and confusion subsided, Kageyama explained he had been dropping small hints the entire time. By their first year in college, they had been dating about six months and decided to attend college together. Hinata, after grievously injuring his left arm, was no longer allowed to play, so he got a job and became the team manager, still practicing as much as he could. They kept in contact with all their friends, and on Christmas Eve there was a big reunion with the Karasuno players.

Hinata groaned quietly, his head pounding from the successful night of drinking. He rolled over facing away from the light pouring from his window. After tucking his head under his pillow, he reached out to grab onto Kageyama. Yet, Tobio was out of arms reach. Hinata whined. "Tobio-chaaan..." He wiggled over, patting about as he scooched across the sheets. "Where are you?" He grumbled into the pillow. He pushed himself up from his stomach, smacking his lips and frowning.

He slid to the side of the bed, sitting on the side. He stretched his arms, before dropping from the side. He rubbed his eye with his knuckle, before yawning with his mouth wide open. He scratched his chest beneath his collarbone as he turned the corner to the kitchen. He grabbed the coffee pot and his abnormally large mug from the cabinet, pouring a cup. He grabbed his sugar jar dumping a handful of sugar in.

"Tobio, I can hear you rustling in there." He called, leaning back to try and spot his lover.

"E-Ehh?" He listened to Tobio startle, and then something fall. "You're up?"

"I never sleep past ten in the morning, so really I should be asking you why you're up." He turned, his feet sticking to the marble floors. Kageyama's hair stuck up all over, and he hovered above a huge box. It had three holes midway up the side in a line with wrinkled wrapping that said, "Happy Birthday!" repetitively all over in various colors. Hinata shook his head. Kageyama couldn't wrap a present to save his life. Hinata ended up buying gift wrap for his own presents, too.

"Why do you not have Christmas wrap?" Hinata giggled. "Or why didn't you just use what we had here?"

"Ahh... Well, I didn't know where you put it, and the convenience store ran out." Tobio said sheepishly, shrugging as his cheeks heated up.

"Okay, okay, well—what is it?" Hinata sipped his drink stepping forward. Kags sat back gesturing towards the box.

"It's annoying already."

Hinata cocked his head questioningly, before setting his coffee down and slowly sitting cross-legged before the box. He reached out hesitantly, eyeing Kageyama carefully. His eyebrows were drawn together expectantly as he waited for Hinata to open the box. Hinata watched him the entire time, lifting the lid quietly. He leaned forward, inspecting the contents. In seconds, his jaw dropped, and his eyes shot back up to Tobio. He resisted squealing as he reached into the box, lifting the soft ball of fur.

"Tobio-chan—" He gasped, whispering due to the golden retriever puppy sleeping in his arms. His eyes burned, big and bright orange, as tears of joy streaked down his cheeks onto the puppy's fur. He stroked his fuzzy little ears, and it yawned loudly, growling cutely. "I'm so happy."

"Two of you may be hard to deal with. I know she'll be just like you already..." Tobio laughed.

"Is this why my mom sent me a hundred dollar gift card for a pet store?" Hinata chuckled.

"Yeah, she thought I would give her to you last night, so when you asked if she meant to give it to someone else she panicked."

Hinata nuzzled the snoring puppy and smiled. "What's her name?"

"You name her."

"Really?" Hinata's eyes widened again. He looked down to his lap at the slumbering puppy. He wondered for a moment, shuffling through his ideas. The pup in his hands shifted, snuggling closer to him. "Nemui would be good for her."

"You want to name her 'sleepy' basically?"

"She hasn't done anything but sleep so far."

"Trust me, that thing is anything but sleepy. She just wore herself out."

Hinata pursed his lips. "Well, whatever, we'll call her Nemui. It's cute and I like it."

Kageyama sighed, scratching his head a bit. "Can we open the rest of the gifts later and go lay down then? The dog isn't the only thing that's sleepy."

Hinata grinned, and he stood to rush to the room. Tobio grabbed his coffee, knowing if he didn't he'd inevitably have to eventually. He walked into the bedroom to see Hinata cooing over Nemui in his arms. He smiled softly, crawling into the bed. Hooking his arm around Hinata, Tobio dragged Shouyo close.

"Tobio?" Kageyama nodded a bit in acknowledgment. "Thank you so much." Hinata murmured. Glancing up shyly from his lashes, Hinata smiled warmly. Tobio's cheeks heated up, painting red.

"It's nothing, Sho," he murmured, looking away. He pressed his forhead against Hinata's. "I love you."

After kissing briefly, Hinata and Kageyama rested their heads, and the dog nestled down against their chests for a winter nap.
