Late night letters

The night was cloudy with the moon fighting to shine behind the clouds but failing to a dim set night. With summer ending and fall following fast behind bringing a chilling breeze with it.

I sat at my window looking out at the road where the lamp post interrupted the darkness with a small spot of light.
I watched. I waited.
I tapped my fingers along the chipped white wood of the windowsill impatiently. The sound seemed to echo through the empty room.
All was quiet aside from the sound of my shallow breathing.
The wind started to pick up and the trees rustled in protest.
I could see where the shadows started to play at the corners of the light threatening to engulf it completely. As quickly as it was there, it was gone and in its tracks a simple white letter was left.

With no time to waste, I broke the silence as I opened the window and slipped down from its perch. I shivered as the breeze caressed my bare skin threatening to fill me with fear but there was no time for such things. With a quick and quiet step I made my way to the street light.

My breathe caught in my throat as I picked up the letter. I held it in my hands, it was as if it had the weight of holding my own life and in some ways it did. With great care I opened it....
