The juvenile licked her lips and stared down at the carcass. Smaug had told her that she could hunt by herself as long as she did it behind the mountain, away from Lake town. She searched for a while before she found cattle. It wasn't a lot, but it was enough to satisfy her stomach for the rest of the day. (Y/N) sat in the grass and looked around.
The place had come to life since she and her father first arrived here. The grass grew back and the trees were almost at their previous height. But Dale was still there, in the exact state as before. (Y/N) could only imagine the number of human bodies that were scattered throughout the city that were beyond decomposed.
Taking a quick peek at the mountain, (Y/N) spread her wings and flew towards Dale. She flew clumsily and close to the ground. She wasn't as graceful as her father for she collapsed onto the ground with a giant THUD when she reached the heart of Dale. Looking around, the juvenile shifted into a human and began to walk throughout the city.
Charred human remains lay everywhere and the buildings were collapsed. The bridge that connected Dale to the other side was destroyed. Moss had begun to grow between the cracks of the demolished brick ground. The smell was absolutely atrocious. (Y/N) placed her hand over her nose. She shifted once more and flew towards the mountain.
She felt so sorry for the poor men of Dale. They had no idea what lay in store for them on that one eventful day. The dwarves of Erebor didn't deserve their fate either. She now understood that dragons had an unquenchable thirst for treasure. She didn't understand at first but she did now. She remembered the stories about Middle earth that her father told her occasionally.
The spirit of Morgoth lived within every existing dragon that caused them to feel that way. (Y/N) feared that his spirit would possess her too someday. Greed, violence and spitefulness. It haunted every dragon whether it be past, present or future.
At that particular moment, (Y/N) resented Smaug. But she also remembered that he had been so good to her. He provided her with food, warmth and protection when she was a new hatchling. If he hadn't, she would have died. But that didn't change the fact that he had done terrible things in the past whether it be on purpose or in self defense.
(Y/N) wondered what would happen in the future. The majority of the dwarves of Erebor were not killed unlike the men of Dale. Was it possible for them to come back in an attempt to take back their treasure? If they did, that would be a very ignorant decision. No one stood a chance against Smaug. Not even (Y/N).
