The boat eventually reached the shore. The few survivors of the destruction had escaped by boat and came ashore in hope of creating a new town on land. Galina and Irma grabbed (Y/N) and pulled her to the side.
'I've never seen you around Lake-town before'
Irma stated again.
(Y/N)'s eyes became as big as saucers. She couldn't tell them that she was just a dragon in disguise.
She decided to lie to cover up the current mess.'I've always been in Lake-town. I just had nowhere to go'
'Well, Irma and I run anhome for orphaned children. Of course, we're going to rebuild it but you're going to stay with us until you've come of age'
Galina placed her hand on (Y/N)'s shoulder.
'Tell us about yourself'
Irma put her weight on her walking cane.
'My name is (Y/N) and...my father was murdered'
Tears fell down (Y/N)'s cheeks at the remembrance of Smaug. Galina engulfed her into a hug.
'You don't have a mother?
'She's gone too'
'Don't cry, honey. All of the children have had troubled pasts. You're not alone'
(Y/N) wiped her eyes on the skirt of her dress once more before standing up tall.
'You don't know what I've been through'
The dragoness thought.
Galina and Irma helped the other children out of the boat. The human children varied in size and obvious age range. From young toddler to pre-teen. There were about five orphans on the boat.
(Y/N) wondered about their histories and how many children would join them in the future. She now knew how it felt to be "alone" and "exposed", as Smaug had stated before.Galina's earlier words rung throughout (Y/N)'s head.
'-you're going to stay with us until you've come of age'
(Y/N) loudly swallowed. She had no idea what age was considered an "adult" here, but she was physically seven. She had been physically seven for the past few decades. It could take several centuries for her to physically become a young adult. The dragoness did not want to live amongst humans for the majority of her life.
Her thoughts were interrupted by Irma. Galina was gathering the children up while buildings were already being built.
'First, lets get you some new clothes'
(Y/N) looked down at her (F/C) dress. It had short sleeves and came down right below her knees. Time and action had dulled the color and ripped the fabric in multiple places. She had not even realized that she was barefoot until now. Not to mention that her hair was tangled together and it smelled like smoke. Ash stained the (S/c) skin on her arms and face.
'We can get you shoes and I know how to sew. Pulling a comb through your hair and tying It with a ribbon sounds like a great idea. You won't have to look like a street orphan anymore'
(Y/N) looked around. She had no idea where she was now. She wondered what happened
to the dwarves and the creature named "Bilbo". Did they take the treasure back now that she and her father were evicted? Looking back at the lake they had just come out of, the young dragon followed the group of humans as they traveled further away from the shore.
