"It's perfect," Rick spoke as we all gathered in the fenced in walkway surrounding the prison. "If we can shut that gate, prevent more from filling the yard, we can pick off these walkers." he turned to face us and I looked out over the prison's yard, which was filled with walkers, frowning skeptically. "We'll take the field by tonight." he finished quickly, and Hershel nodded. "So how do we shut the gate?" the older man asked, and I turned to look over at Glenn as he spoke, "I'll do it. You guys cover me." Maggie shook her head quickly with a breathy sigh, squinting as the sun hit her eyes. "No. It's a suicide run."
"I'm the fastest," he started to argue with her as Rick stepped in. "No. You, Maggie, and Beth draw as many as you can over there. Pop 'em through the fence." Rick instructed, looking over at me as he pointed to his right. "Daryl and Abby, you guys go back to the other tower. Abby, make sure to keep your aim steady." I nodded quickly, looking over at Daryl as Rick continued. "Carol, you've become a pretty good shot. Take your time. We don't have a lot of ammo to waste. And Hershel, you and Carl take this tower." he instructed as the three of them hurried off, and he looked out into the field. "I'll run for the gate."
Daryl, nudged my arm, tilting his head towards the tower as he began to run for it and I quickly followed, the others hitting at the fence to draw as many walkers over as they could. I climbed up the tower first, letting out a groan as I pulled myself up to the top, quickly stepping out of the way so Daryl could get inside as I hurried out to the ledge. I watched as Lori opened the gate for Rick, and he quickly snuck his way through as I began to shoot down a few walkers that spotted him.
All the gunfire had started to draw them back from the fence, but I soon let out a relieved laugh when Rick finally managed to close the gate before getting trapped inside one of the outposts. "He did it!" I laughed out, and Daryl aimed his crossbow. "Light it up!" he called out to the others, and everyone began to shoot, taking out each walker one by one, until the last one had fallen. I had managed to take out a couple, or at least knock them to the ground, the few times Rick had me practice my shooting starting pay off.
"That was amazing," I breathed out enthusiastically as everyone met back up, Carol coming up from my right. "Nice shooting." Daryl complimented, and she smiled happily as he glanced at me. "You too." I nodded and replied with a soft 'thank you' as we walked over to Lori. "You okay?" Lori nodded with a smile. "I haven't felt this good in weeks." she replied as we walked passed her into the field. "Wow." Carol laughed out as we looked around. "We haven't had this much space since we left the farm." I looked up at the sky, biting my lip as my eyes fluttered closed, my nerves calming now that I knew we were safe as T-dog's laughter filled my ears. Opening my eyes a few seconds later, I followed them up the hill to where Rick stood observing, knowing tomorrow would be a challenge but for now...at least we had this small victory.Author's Note: I'm trying to follow the script as much as I can, which is hard to do since I do it either by memory or by watching the episodes (which takes forever when I pause every two seconds lol). I will fix any mistakes when I find them, please let me know what you think!:)
