CHAPTER 1 - Fire

Aisu passed out and I knew I couldn't catch her. Luckily the boy snagged her arm, holding it so she didn't hit her head. I quickly stepped away from the blond girl and lowered Aisu to the ground.

"Aisu." I called. She didn't react. "Aisu." I lightly smacked her cheeks and she still didn't react. I put my head to her chest and found her heart was still beating. "So she hasn't iced. Not yet." I sighed and looked at the boy.

"Could we maybe come in?" I asked with a sigh.

"Sure." There was a moment of hesitation before he stepped out. He picked up Aisu like she weighed nothing. I admired his strength for a moment before I grabbed our bags and followed him in. The mansion was obviously luxurious, the first room being quite open. To my surprise there was a couch next to the stairs, which the boy laid my best friend on.

I knelt next to her and took her hand, keeping my fingers firmly on her pulse in her wrist to make sure I knew when she iced. "So what's the deal? Who are you? Why are you here?" the boy asked.

"I'm Moeru Kasai and this is Aisu Gosuto." I said. "We just took shelter on the pouch when it started raining. We weren't planning on asking you for anything." I added.

"Is she okay?" The girl asked. The boy looked bored as he stood with his hands on his hips.

"So far." I muttered quietly. Just as I said that Aisu's heartbeat slowed. I started counting, restarting after each pulse, until another one didn't come.

"1...2...12...13...24...25...any moment now." I thought. I started to get fidgety as I kept counting. "46...47...come on, Aisu!" I thought worriedly. "60...61...!" Thump. A heart beat passed my fingers and I let out a slow breath as I let go of Aisu's hand, laying in on her stomach.

It didn't take long for Aisu's eyes to snap open and she gasped. She sat up and I pushed her back down. "Moeru..." She said quietly.

"You okay? You iced." I said. Her eyes asked 'how long'. "61 seconds. Freaked me out. Don't scare me like that, okay?" I said with a joking smile.

"Sorry." She muttered with a straight face.

"Okay. We'll get out of your hair." I told our two hosts as I helped Aisu up. A dash of lightning from outside made Aisu flinch slightly.

"It's pouring out. At least warm up first." The girl said. I glanced at Aisu who shrugged a shoulder. As usual she didn't care. I only agreed because they didn't need to think we were any stranger than they already did.

"Sure, thanks." I said. The girl led us to a different room and I saw Aisu grab her leather bag before walking next to me. She never left that bag behind. It didn't take long to reach a warm lounge that, to my surprise, had four other boys in it. The all looked vaguely alike: not enough to mistake them for brothers but half brothers seemed possible.

My examination of them didn't last long when I noticed a huge fireplace. With no fire. I frowned. "Wasted." I thought. My hand brushed the box of matches and lighter in my pocket and I contemplated starting one.

"Oh, who are these two cute girls?" One of the boys said as he winked at me and Aisu. He wore a black fedora and, like the boy at the door, had green eyes and red hair.

"Found them outside." The boy behind us muttered as he walked away.

"We're just waiting out the storm." I said simply.

"There's plenty I could do before this storm's over. Care to find out?" The boy in the hat asked.

"No." I said simply. I caught Aisu hiding a yawn and I wasn't the only one.
