I stayed by Liam as he chatted with different people he knew, and they all knew him. I tried my best to keep my attention focused, but I had no idea what they were talking about.

Finally we had some alone time.

"Hey, sorry I'm not really talking about stuff you're interested in." He said.

"It's fine, I don't care." I tried to smile politely.

"Aspen, are you okay with all of this?"

"With what?" I asked.

"Going to parties, I mean I feel like I just drag you along." He smiled shyly.

"Yeah it's fine, they're fun. And I like to spend time with yo-"

"Hey guys!" Harry interrupted.

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

"Well this is my house." He smiled.

"But I mean right here, like your lawn is huge harry can you go find somewhere else to be." I said through my teeth, Liam laughed a little, but he still looked confused.

"Do you guys need to talk?" Liam asked.

"No," I said simultaneously with Harry responding "yes."

"Well I'm going to use the restroom, I'll be right back." He kissed me on the cheek before he left me alone with Harry.

"Really?" Harry whined as Liam passed him.

"What?" I said.

"Why are you still with him? I get it you made me jealous congratulations." He said.

"This wasn't about you Harry, I moved on I suggest you do to."

"Don't lie." He spat. "You haven't been thinking about me?" He said coming closer to where I was.

"No." I partially lied.

"I'm not stupid Aspen."

"Harry I've changed since we were... together." I mumbled.

"You think that?" He said.

"Yes. I do, I really do,"

"Aspen we both know were meant for eachother."

"And that's why we shouldn't be together." I said. I sighed, "Harry we weren't good for eachother, not the type of people we are should be in.. whatever we were in."

"A relationship?" He said, his eyebrows tilting on his head.

"Sure you can call it that." I said.

"Harry we ended it, and you know why."

"Why?" He said.

"Because.. you gave up on us, and I'm not blaming you, I knew you would give up on me." I said quietly.

"You gave up on yourself." He said, coming close to me. "You gave up on yourself long before me."

"I know." I said.

"So don't be with him, be with me, we can fix it."

"Some things can't be fixed Harry." I told him.

"Anything that's broken can be fixed if you try hard enough."

"That's the cheesiest thing I've ever heard." I laughed.

"I missed that, your laugh," He said, and my cheeks felt hot.

"Look at us, not fighting, we can make it work." He said, it sounded like he was pleading.

"We could-"

But Liam came back before I could finish what I was saying, and Harry disappeared somewhere.

"What were you guys talking about?" Liam asked me. I looked at his big brown eyes and suddenly felt guilty.

"Liam you can find someone way better than me, who will actually care about you and only you and have no doubts about it." I said, struggling to make eye contact.

"It's ok Aspen, you're a cool girl, I get it."

"I'm really sorry." I said.

"Don't apologize. I still think I'm in love with my ex girlfriend, I get it"

"I'm not in love with Harry." I said.

He smiled. "Okay, this was fun, you're really awesome." He said, he was so sweet.

"I'll see you around?" I asked casually.

"Of course, I'll come by the restaurant tomorrow." He laughed. "You know the order?" He asked.

"Cheeseburger with fries and a coke, I think I got it."

"Can't wait." He smiled and I turned around and walked towards the beach, following the one thing I knew I should.

"Harry!" I called out and he turned around.

His face lit up and he walked towards me.

"People mess up a lot, and were people." I said.

"Yep." He smiled.

"We mess up.. a lot." I said.

"A lot." He emphasized.

"Please don't tell me you love me until I tell you I love you." I said.

"Why?" He looked puzzled.

"Because I need to love myself before you love me." I said, god that sounded better in my head. He laughed.

"That was bad."

"I know, shut up." I said.

"Aspen?"

"What?" I said.

He started to speak but he stopped himself, he grabbed my hips and pulled me close to him, meeting our lips together. The familiar taste of peppermint brought back so many memories. Memories of fighting and screaming but mostly being with one person I couldn't live with but couldn't survive without.
