Chapter Nine:I Need a Drink

Vegas lead Kyrie and the others up two flights of stairs to a small parlor room on the third floor of the mansion. Once Vegas opened the door to the parlor Kyrie noticed a young woman in a gypsy outfit sitting by the fireplace with three small children, two boys and a little girl. "Ah, Raymond," the young blonde woman said, getting up from her seat. "I take it you needed a moment away from the festivities?" Raymond smiled and walked over to the gypsy woman whom Kyrie had already figured was Lana Wolf. "I did not know you were in here my love. We shall seek the bar then," Raymond said, turning around. "Oh nonsense. Damien, Tyler, take your sister and go play in the game room for a bit, your father needs some alone time with one of our guests." The two boys got up and helped their younger sister who Kyrie believed to be only about three years old, out of the room, a butler that Kyrie hadn't noticed before, following the three children out of the room. "Please, come sit," Lana told them all, motioning to the sofas set in a circle around a fireplace that was in the middle of the room like a campfire. "I suspect that you are Kyrie Kerr?" Lana asked Kyrie who nodded. "Yes I am," she replied nicely to Lana. She had no beef with the younger woman and would not start a war with her even if she had the chance. "My husband tells me that you are here to kill him, possibly?" Lana asked as she brought around some refreshments for them all, handing the men a tumbler full of scotch, and the women a glass of champagne. "I'm sorry but I can't have this-" "Because you are pregnant?" Lana asked. Kyrie looked at the gypsy woman surprised. "Yes, that's exactly why to be precise," Kyrie told her. Lana just nodded. "I was the same way as you when I was pregnant with Damien, do you remember dear?" she asked looking over at Raymond who nodded. "Oh good lord yes I remember very vividly," he told his wife who smiled. "She was just like you and your cousin when she was pregnant," Vegas said making Kyrie look at him. "You met my cousin while she was pregnant?" she asked. Vegas nodded. "We did. She was very polite and acted the part of a lady," Vegas said, a hint of pride in his voice which confused Kyrie. "She's also the one who gave me these scars here," he told her rolling up his sleeves to show a myriad of scars and teeth marks from both Ravyn's vampire, werewolf and shapeshifter forms, the scars going up and down his arms. "Damn," Kyrie said getting a close look at the scars. "She got you good didn't she?"

"Yes she did indeed,"Vegas said as he took a sip of his scotch. Lana came over with a champagne glass filled with dark liquid and handed it to Kyrie who recognized it as Dr. Pepper. "Fancy. How'd you know I liked Dr. Pepper?" she asked sniffing it slightly to make sure she didn't get poisoned. "Your cousin," Lana told her. We heard the two of you were like twin sisters back in the day and you both liked the same drinks. By the way I would never poison one of our guests my dear. And if you wish to know a person who is pregnant with a supernaturals child- or children in your case-" Kyrie choked on her sip of Dr. Pepper when Lana said children and went straight into a coughing fit. Lana scurried over to Kyrie and handed her a silk handkerchief, helping to wipe down the dress Kyrie was wearing where a small bit of Dr. Pepper had spilled when she choked. "My apologies dear, I thought you already knew you were having twins," Lana exclaimed as she handed the handkerchief off to Kyrie who wiped her chin and mouth. "She's having twins?" Angel asked. "How do you know?"

"My dear I am a seer and a powerful one at that. I know the futures and pasts of every single being inside this house including you all," Lana explained. "Now as for what I was saying, when a woman, whether she be human or supernatural like you Kyrie, gets pregnant with a supernaturals child or children, a protective barrier forms over the children as they grow and stays with them after they are born. No one can touch or harm the child till the day they turn sixteen, the day that the Goddess chose to be the day they become a man- or a woman," Lana added, looking at Kyrie who looked back skeptically. "But what about my cousin? You attacked her and her step sisters when she was fourteen!" Kyrie exclaimed, not believing a word. "Ah, about that. When I attacked your Uncle and brought your cousin and her sister down from their room I only threatened to harm them. I never actually did. The reason being that if a child under the protection of the Goddess is attempted to be harmed the barrier will lash back at the perpetrator and most of the time they get sent through a wall. I would know. The first time i tried to discipline my son-"

"It was just a spanking I promise you," Lana explained quickly. Kyrie nodded, believing the gypsy more than Vegas. Vegas nodded at his wife's words. "When I went to spank him, on the bottom of course, I felt like I hit a brick wall and then all of a sudden I was flying through the air and ended up putting a very large hole in the wall." Kyrie and Angel's eyes widened at the thought. "Now, the barrier also protects against drugs and alcohol so no harm will come to the child while in utero," Lana said as she took a sip of her champagne.

"Really?" Kyrie asked the gypsy. Lana nodded. "I wouldn't be drinking right now if I wasn't sure. My doctor was the one who told me," Lana added as she placed a hand on her slightly rounded belly. Kyrie's eyes widened. "So I could lets say, smoke a joint or a cigarette?" Kyrie asked. Lana nodded. "Of course. If you wish we have a few rolled already if you would like one," Vegas said, snapping his fingers. A few seconds later a butler came in carrying a silver tray with what looked like nothing on it. It wasn't until the butler brought it over to Vegas that Kyrie saw what it was. "The splif's you asked for my lord," the butler said as he sat the tray down on the granite table top of the fireplace. "Thank you Jason," Vegas said as he picked up one of the splif's and lit it with a zippo.

Steven was the first out of their group to take one of the splif's. Steven smelled the splif first before he lit it and inhaled. Once he exhaled he looked over at Kyrie. "They're safe," he said, taking another drag. "Of course they are," Lana told him smiling. "Sorry we don't believe you right off the bat but ya know, evil," Kyrie said, pointing at Vegas. Vegas rolled his eyes but nodded. "Fair enough," he said. "Now then, back to business."
