"The walls change every night for a month then repeat. Twenty-nine patterns total."
Minho examined her model closely and looked up,
"In just nine months of being here, you've just figured out more than anyone has in over two years."
"Well, I mean Newt helped."
Newt looked at her and said,
"Hey, I only helped construct it. This was all you, Greenie."
She shrugged her shoulders,
"I'm just glad all this poison's out of my system and I can run again."
Minho patted her back,
"Just be careful. We wouldn't want a matching wound on your left arm, now."
She smiled,
"Yeah I'll try."
He looked over at Newt and then at Rosalind, jokingly punched Newt's arm with a chuckle, and left.
She raised a brow and laughed,
"You told Minho didn't you?"
"Well not exactly, he kinda figured it out on his own."
"I suppose it's only a matter of time until people start figuring things out..."
He ran his fingers through his hair,
"Maybe we should try to keep it on the down-low. A girl has never entered the maze, so who knows how anyone will react."
"I agree. Everyone's already talking about my rendezvous with that Griever, I don't really need another reason for people to talk about me."
He wrapped his arms around her and said in a softer voice,
"You saved me. I never thanked you."
"Well, I had to repay you for pulling me out of the maze my first day somehow."
He held her tighter,
"I'm so glad you didn't go insane."
"I'm still not sure why that was, but me too."
He kissed her cheek and took her hand,
"C'mon, let's grab some of Frypan's idea of food."
Her laugh warmed his chest and they abandoned the map room.
Night soon fell, and she lied on the soft grass and watched the plentiful, small lights flicker above her. She was startled at first when she felt someone lie next to her, but calmed as soon as she realized it was Newt.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."
"It's fine, you can startle me anytime."
"What are you thinking about?"
"...I thought that having my memories back would eliminate some of my questions, but they just wound up creating more."
"I'm unsure about a lot in this world, but one thing I know is true, is that you are fully capable of handling whatever bloody thing the Creators throw at you. I promise, we'll beat this together."
Even in the darkness he could sense the pink in her cheeks.
She watched the stars overhead for a while until she noticed something odd. A constellation spelled out:
A13
Her eyes went wide and she sat up.
"What the hell is that!?!" she said petrified as she pointed upwards.
Newt put a hand on her shoulder,
"Calm down. What is it?"
She continued to point,
"That! A13!"
He narrowed his brows and stared for a while before he saw what she had.
"Bloody hell."
She picked up a rock and pulled him up,
"C'mon, the watchtower."
They began to climb up the tall, wooden structure. They reached the top and stared.
"How good of an arm are you?" she questioned holding up the rock.
"Woah, you're not suggesting throwing that thing up there are you?"
"That's exactly what I'm suggesting."
"Let's not act too fast, maybe it's just a coincidence."
She bit her lip in anxiousness, glanced back and forth among the rock and the sky, and hurtled it upward.
They jumped at the loud crash and the rock returned to the ground with a thud. Then, they looked up and saw it.
A crack in the sky.
