"The whole thing's a simulation." she said pacing.
Newt folded his arms and added while extending his pointer finger upwards,
"Alby, they've been watching us the whole time. In fact, they're still bloody watching us."
Alby shut his eyes and took a deep breath to remain calm. He opened them with a firm expression and replied,
"Okay, no one can know about this. The Glade will dissolve into utter madness. People will be paranoid. And there's not really anything we're able to do.The best we can is to just keep running the maze and try to find a way out. The Creators are in control."
"But Alby, the whole sky is basically a fucking camera." she said to his turned back.
He whipped around,
"Did you or did you not hear me, Greenie? We're the game pieces here, okay? We are completely controlled by them, not to mention that they could kill all of us in seconds if they wanted to. I better not hear this going around the maze, or I will have to take extreme precautions with you. You need to think about the repercussions of every damn move you make in this place, good that? I will not have a stupid Rookie who's in over her head destroy the peace."
She bit her tongue and silently nodded.
He added,
"Now you two get to the maze, I have work to do."
They exited the wooden hut and met Minho by the parted entrance of the maze.
"Where have you shanks been?" he questioned.
"We were just showing Alby the model." she replied still stunned by Alby's remark.
"Alright, well we're going to the edge today. I wanna see this Griever hideout for myself."
"Well, let's get on with it then." Newt added before they took off into the depths of the maze walls.
Time seemed to slip away as she was lost in thought.
They returned just as night crept up into the Glade. She lied awake and clutched the sides of her hammock. The stars now read the following:
"A13 is"
Tears streamed down her face and she felt her legs now taking her to the giant oak tree. She grasped at its rough trunk and sat with her knees drawn to her chest at its base.
Newt saw her silhouette from afar and made his way to her. He was standing beside her when she said,
"I can't take it anymore, Newt. This place is driving me insane, every slightest budge I make is monitored...and I just can't take it."
He wiped the tears from her eyes with his fingers and helped her up. He enlaced their fingers and led her into the woods, where deep within the trees there lied a small wooden shelter. He said among the soft whisper of a nearby stream,
"No one knows about this place. I come here when I need to be alone, but it can be our hideout now. I promise you that when you're here, it's just the two of us."
They went inside and the room was bare with the exception of a cot and a table that contained some papers.
She rested on the cot and he joined her. Newt wrapped his arms around her until her eyes were overcome by a heavy slumber.
"It's just the two of us..."
