Sunday, January 15th, 2016--------------------- "Off The Grid" "The View"
3:04 p.m.
Quinn's POV
"What?! You can't just throw me out like that!" "Oh yes we can! You haven't been paying your rent and I am your landlord so I can kick you out!" "But can't I have a few more days, by then I will have the money." I begged to stay in my apartment.
I don't know where I will go after this. Probably back to the cardboard box I grew up in.
"Just be out by four!" "But that's in," I checked the time," Fifty minutes!" "I don't care, see you at four! Actually, I won't, cause' you won't be there! Ha!"
She hung up the landline and slammed mine back into the wall.
What the fuck!? I know I am slow on money, but that was so rude.
I didn't have much stuff though, I had a few shirts but I had the same pair of pants every day. I had old shoes, and I had my couch, but that stays here. I had a few meals, but I ate those earlier for breakfast.
I guess I'm ready. I checked the time, it's only been five minutes since the conversation. Oh well, I guess I will leave early.
I walked outside and looked around, confused on where to go. I just walked in any random direction.
I ended up in the city and I just walked down the streets, admiring the lights. I was walking near the McDonald's that I was currently working at.
I strolled in, and went to the manager's office. I gave him a speech about paying his employees more and then rage quit at the end.
Well now I have no home, and no job. I've gone off the grid. What have I done?
It's not like I could have gotten a better job, I didn't go to school thanks to my dumbass parents.
I continued to walk and think all through the city. I suddenly found that I wasn't in in Santa Monica anymore. I was in, Los Angeles! It began getting darker and I soon found myself sitting on top of a hill.
I looked down at the city, it's so beautiful from up here. I heard footsteps coming near me.
Shit. Don't tell me I'm gonna be murdered.
"Colby! Be quiet!" I heard a boy say. Oh, so there is two of them?
"I know I'm not stupid!" The guy, uh, Colby said. I heard the rustling of some bushes and turned around.
"Okay! You can come out now! I'm not stupid!" I stood with my arms crossed. The boys came out of the bushes.
"Sorry, we just saw you and thought that-" "Thought what? That you could stalk me?!" "No no no no! We thought you were cute so we were waiting for a good time to come and talked to you, you looked like you were rethinking life or something so we waited." The other boy said.
"Um, okay? Uh, my name is Quinn." I held my hand out. "I'm Jake and this is Colby." Jake shook my hand.
We stood in silence for a second. It was so quiet you could even hear the Earth rotating.
"So, what made you come up here?" Colby asked me. "I don't know, I just walked up here and saw the view. What about you guys?" "Oh we were just going to get... stuff for... oh shit." Jake spoke.
"What?" I asked. "We needed to go get stuff for my brother. He's a YouTuber and does some crazy shit!" "Yeah, once we dumped a whole gallon of bleach into his washing machine, it still needs to be fixed." Colby added.
"Okay well I will let you guys be on your way." I said just then realizing that it was dark. "Well, what about you?" Jake asked. "What about me?"
"Want to come with us?"
"To where?"
"We are going over to the Apple Store to get an iPhone 7s."
"A what?"
Colby and Jake looked at each other for a moment. "iPhone 7s. It's a phone." Colby said. "What's a phone? Is it like a landline?" I asked.
There eyes went wide. "You don't know what a phone is?!" "No, I don't have a T.V. and I only go to the store every other week to get food." "Well do you want to come with us to see what a phone is?" Jake asked.
"Sure." I said.
We went down the hill and went to what they called 'The Apple Store' which doesn't even sell apples by the way. "Hey, Quinn!" Colby called from across the store. It's really small.
"Yeah?" I walked over to him to see a small device in his hand. "What's that?" I pointed at it.
"This is the iPhone 7s." He waved it in my face. "And why do you guys need this?" "Cause' Brennen, my brother, the YouTuber, is going to take a One Hundred degree knife and cut it open!" Jake sounds excited. "Okay, and?"
"Um, it looks cool? Wanna see?" Colby asked.
"Um sure?" They bought the iPhone and we walked out of the store.
All of a sudden this ringing noise appeared through the silence. "Oh my gosh! What's that noise?!" I said feeling scared.
"It's just my phone, calm down it doesn't kill you." Colby said reaching into his pocket and pulling out a similar thing as to what Jake was holding.
He tapped on it a few times and then spoke into it. "Hello?" "ASDFSDXVEESS?!" I heard weird screaming coming from it.
I backed away from them. "Are you guys communicating with aliens?" I became a bit scared as to what was going on.
"No, Colby is talking to Brennen on the phone." Jake said walking over to me.
"So it is like a landline!" I realized that I sounded like I was from the 80's. I blushed and turned the other way. Jake laughed.
"I don't know how you could live without being on a cellphone, but your living proof that you don't need one to live!"
After that Colby began to talk to us. "We better get going. Quinn, want to come meet Brennen?"
"Uh, sure!" Then we were off to Brennen's house.
