The day goes by slowly for the two teens. Ember wasn't very happy about being partnered with Blake. She thought he wouldn't pull his own weight for this project. Just then Blake walks up to her with papers in his hand.
"Hey, here's two and a half pages worth of research for this. You can go through it and see what you wanna use." Blake handed Ember the papers and turned around to walk away.
"Wait." She called for him baffled, Blake merely stopped and looked over his shoulder at her. "When did you do this?" She said, her eyes looking for an answer. He knew she wasn't going to leave until he gave her what she wanted. Blake turned around and simply said, "Last night." After he replied he started walking away again only this time he didn't stop when Ember called for him once more.
"Tch what a prick." Ember muttered softly under her breath. Nothing she says or does will ever get through to him. He's distant and cold, always has his head down never acknowledging anyone unless he has too. The school deemed him as the class outcast, no-one really gave a damn about him honestly.
When Blake first came to Pittsburgh Oliver High School everyone thought he was next big thing. Every clique wanting him to join them and be their friend. He became the talk of the school but when he became friends with Ember, everyone was shocked to say the least. No-one thought she would ever have friends again after her family passed away. Then they got over it and moved on, but even still people would talk to him on the daily: now he's just the loner who doesn't give a shit about anyone anymore.Walking into Mr.Delmans history class everyone sat by their partners and got to work. Glancing up at the door every once and a while Ember got more and more anxious the longer it took Blake to enter.
"Sorry I'm late Mr.Delman, I have a pretty good excuse, you see I really didn't wanna come but I decided I have to help my partner with our history project so unfortunately I showed up." Blake said walking through the door.
"Very funny Mr.Shortz now go take a seat and help Ember, that's also a tardy."
"Oh crushed." He replied with an attitude. He walked over to Ember and sat down. He didn't even spare the girl a glance. He started his portion of the project not even daring to look up, he knew the moment he would she ask him the very same question their teacher did: and he really didn't want to explain. As the days go by it gets easier for him to stay away, the more he doesn't talk to her the less of a chance she's a goner. He hopes the longer this continues the less likely she'll be put in danger again. But life doesn't really work that way does it?
"Come over to my place and we can finish it up there ok? And I don't want a lame excuse as to why you're not. Here's my address, stop by after school" Ember said after the bell rang. He didn't have time to answer, the girl was already out the door heading off to class.Once the bell rang for school to be over Blake groaned inwardly. Just as he thought everything was going great, life had to come up and bite him in the ass. He sighed exiting the building heading off to Embers house. He didn't need the address obviously but she didn't have to know that.
Once he got there he realized she wasn't home so he just sat on the front porch and waited. After about half an hour later she showed up.
"Hmm didn't think you'd show up."
"Yeah well I'd rather get this done and over with so we can go our separate way again."
"Tch ya know, you could at least act like you tolerate me." She muttered.
"I don't get along with anybody at school much less in the real world so." He replied.
"It doesn't hurt to try to be nice."
"Nice? What's that, who's he?" Ember just sighed walking to the door and unlocking it. She motioned for him to follow. Standing there for a couple seconds he finally decided to follow.
This is going to be a long night. He thought to himself. Blake walked through the door, once he entered he felt a sense of nostalgia kind of. He hasn't been her house in a while, in an instant memories of the two hanging out whenever they can flash through his head; he feels himself tearing up a little bit but quickly dismisses any memory of them together as Ember comes back down the stairs.
"You coming?" She asked softly.
"Uh yeah sorry I was just thinking about some things. Where's the, where's the bathroom?" It's not like he needed the directions but it'd be weird if he knew where it was.
"Oh uh it's down the hall and it's the second door on the left." She pointed him down the hall.
"Thanks." Blake walked down the hall to the bathroom. He walked in and looked himself in the mirror and sighed. Fuck, I can't do this. I have to get out of here, Blake thought. He turned the water on and splashed his face before walking out of the door to Embers room.
"Alright, lets get started on this so we can finish it." Was all Blake said once he walked through the door to her room.
