"I just cannot believe that it has already been two weeks since Clay and I started datin'." Misty smiled as she told her older sister, Lindsey, on the phone. She loved how it sounded when she mentioned her and Clay dating.

"I still can't believe that dad doesn't know." Lindsey responded on her end of the phone call.

Misty held her cell phone between her cheek and shoulder as she opened her dresser drawer to put away some clean clothes. "We haven't said anything to dad because Clay and I haven't made it official, yet. But, dad is smart. I'm sure he has figured out by now that something is goin' on, if Darlene didn't say anything to him."

"Oh, I'm sure he's known since Clay kissed you on the round-up three weeks ago. He's probably gettin' antsy, just waiting for you to tell him that you are going out with Clay. Then he will act all surprised and interrogate Clay and try scaring him off and everything. You should probably tell him soon that you and Clay are going out."

"I'm not 'going out with Clay,' we are just goin' out...on dates...and hangin' out." Misty shook her head at her contradictory statement. "But we are not official." Misty said to convince not just her sister, but also herself. Misty knew it was probably wrong, but she had been calling Clay her boyfriend for the past week whenever one of her friends asked about him. She liked the sound of it.

"Mhm. I see." Lindsey said, sarcastically.

Sighing into her phone, Misty said, "Clay mentioned somethin' to me last week about how he wants to talk to dad and ask for his blessing or something...I don't know. It's a sweet gesture, but I don't think it's necessary for just askin' if we could make it...whatever 'it' is...official. For a marriage proposal, I definitely think that the guy should ask his girlfriend's dad for his blessing, but I don't think it's necessary for this small of a deal." Even though to Misty, dating Clay wasn't a "small deal" at all.

"It's the gentlemanly thing to do, Misty. I stand behind Clay 100%, but I'm done talkin' to you about it because you need to form your own opinion about it, and not just go with what I say, or what your feelings are telling you."

"Okay. You're right, I know. I'm just new to all of this and don't want to mess anything up." Misty admitted to her best friend, aka, her sister. Moving her stack of clean clothes to the other side of her bed, Misty sat down on her bed.

"I understand that, but everything will play out. Just give it time. In the meantime, tell me about how thangs are with you and Jace." Lindsey asked of Misty.

Misty sighed. "I don't know, Linds. Thangs haven't changed much, but we are kinda talkin' again, so that's good. But, I don't think we will be as close as we once were before Clay and I admitted our feelings to each other."

     "And why's that?"

"Because...even though Jace thinks Clay is a good guy, he doesn't think that Clay is the right guy for me to date...especially as my first boyfriend. Jace said that Clay and I don't know enough about each other because we don't talk that much, we just 'kiss all the time.' Those are Jace's words, not mine. And Jace thinks that we rushed in to things, but I don't think we have. I mean we've known each other for over two years, so it's not like we are strangers, and these past couple weeks, Clay and I have had some really good talks...we've found out quite a bit more about each other, and we will continue to do that until we know as much as we can about each other."

"That's good, peach, but imma have to side with Jace on this one...you and Clay did jump into things really quickly, but I feel like y'all are workin' it out now. And it's good that y'all haven't talked to dad yet, or made it official just yet. Y'all are doin' the right thang by taking it slow and getting to know each other better. Trust me, the time will fly quicker than you want it to." Lindsey replied, taking a deep breath. "But, if you feel it necessary, you can say something to Clay tonight when you see him. Although I do not recommend it, I know how impatient you can be about certain things." There was a grin in Lindsey's voice.
