Ring

I sighed as I walked into the house I shared with me fiancee, Joe.

Just the thought of getting cuddled up onto him after a shitty day at the office made me bubble up inside.

I frowned as I heard some ruffled voices coming from the living room. I was about to walk in, but stopped when I heard my name.

"Oh my god, guys! You aren't helping right now!" Joe spoke, a small hint of panic in his voice which made me confused.

"Y/N is going to be so mad at you!" Josh said, earning some laughs from our friends.

"I think you can say goodbye to your marriage, mate." Conor said and I heard Joe sigh.

"Oh god. Don't say that!" Joe snapped and I froze. What the hell?

"You need to tell her, like right now." The younger Maynard joined in and I was getting worried.

What the fuck has he done? I took a deep breath and joined them, frowning as I met Joe's panicky eyes.

"Tell me what?" I asked and all of the boys snapped their heads in my direction, all exchanging a few looks.

"Oh, love, you're here." Joe said, looking either disappointed or petrified. I made a few steps towards them, a weird tension hanging in the air.

"We'll leave you to it." Oli spoke, looking between Joe and I as he made his way to another room, followed by Josh.

"Leave him to what?" I wondered, looking between all of them but waiting for Joe to explain what was going on.

I was so anxious and nervous to know what he had to tell me that I didn't even notice the mess they had made and my eyes went wide as I looked around the room.

"Is someone going to explain what happened here?" I said, looking at all of them and the rest of the boys made their way into the other room.

Caspar stopped as he walked past Joe and patted his shoulder. "Good luck, bro." His best friend said and left us alone.

I frowned, dropping my bag to the floor eyeing Joe as I waited desperately for an explanation.

Joe walked closer and sighed, scratching the back of his neck.

"Joe, whatever it it please just say it. You're scaring me." I admitted , relaxing as his eyes softened slightly.

"I am so sorry, love please don't get mad." He started and I frowned as I felt the nervousness in his voice. "I kind of lost our engagement ring." Joe blurred out and I felt my heart shrink.

No, he has not, I thought.

"What?" I replied, blinking a few times before looking over the room once again, picturing what had actually happened.

"Y/N, I am so sorry. The boys and I have been looking for it all day long and there's still no trace of it." Joe explained and I felt my eyes watering at the thought.

"Did you just really lose the most precious thing we had?" I spoke and Joe's eyes felt to the floor as I let myself collapse on the couch.

I couldn't believe he had lost it. The only thing I told him to be really careful with because it meant the world for the both of us and he had to lose it.

My chest was suddenly filled with disappointment. I did cherish this ring more than anything. I mean, it was the thing that Joe had put around my finger after asking me to marry him. Of course, it was important.

I felt the couch shift slightly as Joe sat next to me, reaching for my hand but I brushed him off.

"Love, I'm really sorry." Joe said, softly and I looked up to him.

"Joe, I know but it's our engagement ring. It's the only thing I told you to be careful with when I took it off this morning. I just- I can't believe you lost it." I said as a tear ran down my cheek.

I could read the guilt in Joe's eyes and I couldn't be mad at him. It went silent for a few minutes as a few more tears came out and this time as Joe reached for my touch, I grabbed his hand and wiped my eyes.

"But we can still buy a new one! We'll choose it together or we could -" Joe rambled but I cut him off.

"No, we can't pick another one. What made it special is that you bought it for me and that you proposed to me with it. We can't just buy a new one, Joe." I spoke as I leaned onto him.

"What are we gonna do?" Joe questioned and I shrugged, closing my eyes and hoping it was just a nightmare.

As I looked up to watch him again, I frowned at the expression on his face.

"I feel so bad." Joe said but his side smirk was showing and I was confused.

I jumped slightly as I heard Mikey coming in, smile across his face. He walked to us and my frown only grew as I looked between him and Joe who was biting his lip.

"I may or may not have been keeping this in my pocket the whole time." Mikey said as the other boys came in and started to laugh.

As soon as my eyes felt on the ring that Mikey was handing me, I got up and noticed the camera that Caspar was holding. I knew what was going on now.

"You bloody idiots!" I yelled, throwing a pillow at them.

"I genuinely feel so bad." Joe said, laughing as I was trying to hide my own smile.

"I hate you so much." I stated, hitting his arm playfully. "All of you." I continued, looking at all of the boys as I took the ring and put it around my finger carefully, smiling as I admired it for a second.

They were all bloody idiots but deep inside, I knew how much I loved them and I also knew that I would never take this ring away again.

Ever.
