the music starts and I come to life.

The stage lights come up. my smile comes on. "ladies and gentlemen! boys and girls! now showing the freaky finale to this spectacular freak show, what you have been waiting for.. the one the only..People Pleaser!"

Tick Tock.

Scripted applause to cover appall in a room and to be mistaken for appeal. i smiled. "please. don't be frightened, my condition is not contagious and though looks concerning, we have planned this show to be concise and i am completely contained within my container."  i bowed slightly, knowing that my words were reassuring. my metal metronome heart beating  at a  uneven beat and  metaphorically, metastasized throughout my mechanics and making me twitch violently, literally. Unscripted, though my smile did not waver or wilt in the slightest. small chatter. i slid off of my pedestal and predictably moved from the back to the front of the ring over a small pile of red peddles that were left for me.

tick Tock.

the crowd was silent and for a second the world stopped on pause. and then i spoke. telling stories and jokes, and going throughout my day my heart never skipping a stroke. hypnotically,  i whirred and ran my motors humming along with the hiss of my words. by the end, i had the once cold crowd thawed and moving fluently to my words. entranced, and with every joke i told the crowd, it grew more hypnotized and suddenly the shift of who wore the crown shifted from them to me, and it was when i finally clicked my hips into their final mechanical gear i grinned from ear to ear. they had miscalculated and mistaken me for human and that would be there final misadvisement and the cost of such a misanalysis would be their life.

tick tock.

i shifted a beat. "i must confess. my previous statements may have been predictably... Imprecise. " the crowd began to murmur minorly. i smiled and went on, making indirect mentions that the had trusted me, and were therefore foolishly aloud their doom to sneak through the front door, literally. chainsaws roared to life.

but i kept the words large and my smile wide and laughed where it didn't truly make sense, ha. and when those intellectual enough clued into what i was doing it was much to late and the overpowering sound of death and decay filled my circus tent.chainsaws and screams is what i was programmed to crave, so  i kept my smile wide. and reassured. and the most entranced stayed calm up until the moment their crimson blood splattered my metallic and lead grin.

tick tock.

the deed was done and my job was complete. the carnage left at my carnival was almost as sticky as caramel popcorn.

distasteful.

as if ordered i stepped backwards through my backward act, each word unpronounced and each step unstepped until i was wound and ready for my next show. sitting upon my colorful and blood stained pedestal. my grin widening and my eyes going clouded and blank.

Tick Tock.

Tick Tock.

Tick.
