Rosie's POV :
6th February 2012, first day of school after the weekend. Monday was a day when it was so hard to get up and go to school.
Mom had to drop us to school that day as my dad was up for a business tour to Dubai.
I left for school at 7 and reached by 7:30. It was a normal school day, everything was just fine.
Me and Zhenya kept on laughing about that day. We kept making fun of Ammy's sister Bia for being so bossy and stubborn. We bunked our English Literature class and went on the swings instead.
It was 2pm in the noon. Time to go home.
My mother was 30 minutes late so I decided to buy myself something to eat. I was standing in the canteen ques waiting for my turn when all of a sudden, I heard someone call my name.
"Rosie Stuart?"
It was the voice of a women and it sounded familiar.
I turned around to see who it was and that sight left me in shock. Luke's mother? Luke Bryan's mother was there with her sternest expressions and eyes filled with anger. I attempted till my utmost to stay calm.
"Oh Mrs. Bryan how are you? It is so nice to see you he-"
And she cut me off with the most terrible and heart breaking words anybody had ever said to me. But I don't say say she was wrong.
"Girl, do you even know what you're upto? You're Luke's new girlfriend right? And you are the one for whom he lies to us, stays up for so late and rush out of his home and buys expensive gifts all the time? Does your mother know about this and that you were there to meet him in the café that day? He's getting away from all of us. He does not focus on his academics anymore. He's getting so off tracked. I can't see him doing this to himself just for a girl. Look, you're a good girl yourself. A girl should be very careful about herself okay? Why are you being so careless. I don't want you and Luke to be together. I hope I won't have to say all this again. I'm being very straight and clear to you Rosie. "
She conveyed all that in a flow and I did nothing but stay silent and not being able to explain myself.
"Okay." Was all I that was left to.
"Good." She turned around and left.
I lifted my head up and all the girls around me were staring up at me.
I rushed towards the washroom and began weeping. Tears streamed down my cheeks. I never felt so awful about anything. I felt like I was disturbing Luke's family. Maybe because of me, they were all unhappy. I was the reason why a mother was hurt.
I wiped my tears off and went outside.
My mother's friend, Mrs Sam was there to pick me.
"Hey, how was your day Rose?"
She seemed upset. But why was she there to pick me?
"Where's mom?" I anxiously asked her.
"Listen to me. Just stay silent. You'll know everything as soon as we reach home okay?" This left me with bundles of worries. I just hoped my mother was okay. I was sweating with worries. My mind was making up various illusions.
As soon as we reached home, my mother and my sister were weeping so hard. My brother who was just a 6 year old kid, sat there playing with his toys having no clue of what was going on.
"What's wrong guys? Why are you all crying? "
My mom cried harder. The atmosphere was so tensed.
"Will you guys just blurt it all out?"
I shouted.
"Your dad had a heart attack. He's going through a major surgery in Dubai. He's really not well Rosie. Just don't panic baby." Mrs. Sam spoke up.
I had nothing to say. I felt like the whole world had stopped and all I heard was my family, crying.*After a few hours*
We were packing our luggage to go the my aunt's place as my mum was feeling really depressed staying home with us. My sister and I were constantly shedding tears and praying for our dad to get through everything. One of our uncles was there with him so we were satisfied that he wasn't alone.
I unbolted my phone and there were 10 missed calls from Luke. I didn't want to talk to him because of what happened in the school. I called Zhenya and she picked up right after the first ring.
"Hey what's up?"
"Zhenya, my dad had a heart attack and he's going through a major surgery in Dubai. I'm so upset." I bursted in tears.
" Oh crap that's terrible Rosie just be calm. I know you're having a terrible day, I heard what happened in school."
"Zhen, I don't wanna talk about that right now. I'm already upset."
I insisted.
She continued talking to me and telling me that things will be fine. I fell asleep while weeping and talking to her.
My sister woke me up telling me that our uncle called us and conveyed that the operation went successful and the doctors were able to put dad's valve in a correct working order.
I was extremely euphoric to hear that. I went running to my mom and hugged her.
"Mom, God listened to us" tears of joy ran down my face. And so did mum's.
I instantly took my phone out and called my dad's number but my mother stopped me.
"Rose, he's not that stable to talk to anybody right now. He's still in the state of sleep due to heavy anesthesia. We'll have to wait.I was disappointed to hear that but I was happy that he was fine now. I sighed with relief and went to bed. It was 7.30 in the evening.
My phone buzzed, it was Luke. The 20th call of the day.
I needed him, I really really needed his love and his comfort. The warmth of his love was the crave of my heart. But his family needed him more. They brought him up. They expected certain things from him. What did I do for him? Nothing at all. His parents deserved him more than I did.The feeling of losing me might just hurt him for a while. But later after losing his family, he might regret his decision of being with me. And that was something I never wanted. But Luke was someone who lighted my life up. He was someone I never wanted to lose.
But I wanted to be his love and his pride, not his regret.
Life is turning out to be tougher for Rosie. It's getting hard to decide what is she supposed to do next. Hope she doesn't end up doing something which makes her regret her decisions.
