"Right class that will be all, you're welcome to leave early as soon as you've handed me your essays." Professor slughorn announced to his class.
Tom and Adelaide handed theirs to him. "Brilliant work, as usual. Are you two coming to the end of the year party at slug-club tonight?" He eagerly asked.

"Of course, professor." Tom politely answered.
"We would be delighted." Adelaide said.
The professor grinned at the two.
"Good. Good." The professor said and continued to look through the essays.

"I was hoping to avoid going there tonight." Adelaide told Tom when they left the classroom.
"Yes, but it is better to make him happy after all this is the last few days of us being fifth years." Tom shrugged. "I'll wait for you at seven." He said.
Adelaide groaned.
"Okay." She breathed out. "This better be better than all the rest."

•••

Adelaide nearly pinned up the rest of her long brown hair before leaving the room to go and meet Tom.
She was wearing a blue dress for the evening and Tom was wearing his black suit.

He gently kissed her.
"You look beautiful." He whispered.
It was moments like this that made Adelaide blush and become completely speechless.
She grabbed the crook of toms arm and they walked to the party.

"Adelaide. Tom m'boy." Slughorn bellowed in happiness when he saw the pair.
"I think he's already drunk." Adelaide whispered to Tom.
He smiled slightly and nodded.
"Come. Sit." The professor said.
They both sat down near Abraxas.

"My lord." Abraxas whispered so that only they could hear.
"Malfoy." Tom said with a prideful smirk.
Adelaide rolled her eyes at toms behaviour and turned to Abraxas.

The food was served and everyone started their own conversations.

"I managed to choose a suitable dress without you for once." She bragged to Abraxas.
"And you made an excellent decision. You look gorgeous Adelaide." Abraxas complimented.
Adelaide grinned.
"Thank you."

Tom pulled Adelaide in closer to him and glared at the pair.
"Stop being silly, Tom." Adelaide told him.
Tom merely growled under his breath and didn't respond.

"Adelaide!" Slughorn caught her attention.
She looked over at the professor.
"What is it that your parents do?" He asked. "The Gray family is a very wealthy family. I'm sure they're in the sacred 28. Am I correct?"

Adelaide cleared her throat and placed her goblet down.
"Yes, you are correct professor about my family being in the sacred 28. My mother is an unspeakable, so I don't know anything about her job. My father, he works in the ministry of magic." Adelaide answered.
"What is an unspeakable?" One of the students asked.

"An Unspeakable is a wizard or witch who works in the Ministry of Magic's Department of Mysteries. Not much is known about their jobs because they are forbidden to give any information about their department." She answered.
"And what would career are you hoping to have, Adelaide?" The professor asked.

Truthfully, Adelaide didn't have a clue what she wanted to do after Hogwarts. She hadn't thought that far ahead. The only thing she was absolutely sure about what that she wanted to be with Tom.

She glanced over at Tom, who was watching her.
"I would like to follow in my mothers footsteps, professor." Adelaide smoothly lied.
"Ahh yes. Great choice, miss Gray." He praised her. "Tom, what career path, are you hoping to take m'boy?" He asked.

"I would like to be a defence against the dark arts professor, sir." Tom answered.
The professor beamed with joy.
"I'm sure Hogwarts would be delighted to have you back here, Tom."

•••

"Professor Riddle." Adelaide tested the words out.

They left the party early and went to the room of requirements.
"You don't actually want to be a professor do you?" Adelaide asked.
"You don't actually want to be a unspeakable do you?" Tom asked her.
"Touché."

"Tom, what exactly do you want to be?" Adelaide questioned.
"I want to be the greatest wizard in the world." He answered. "I want power, Adelaide. I want to purify the wizarding world so that only worthy people can learn magic."
"And where exactly would I fit in that?" Adelaide asked, she lowered her head, dreading his answer.

Tom moved closer to her and lifted her head up so she was looking in his eyes.
"You will be right by my side, Adelaide." He told her. He paused for a second. "I promise."

He placed his lips on hers.

•••

All the students entered the train, to go home for the summer. Adelaide had to cheer Tom up because once again he was forced to go back to that appalling orphanage.

"You better write to me, Tom." Adelaide warned him, they were sat in their usual carriage.
"For the fifth time, Adelaide. I will." Tom told her.
"By writing to me, I mean nice long letter." She informed him.
"I know."
"You said that last year and all I got was blunt replies. I sent you a letter that was two sides long and ended it with 'are you enjoying your summer?' And your reply was literally 'no'. That does not count." She ranted on.

"Oh I've got good news." She told him, suddenly forgetting the whole letter topic.
"Do tell what the good news is." Tom said.
"My parents are going back to America for two weeks. I have the choice to either go or stay home." She said.
"And?" Tom questioned.
"I chose to stay. So Tom, would you like to stay in the Gray household for two weeks?" She asked in a posh voice.
"I would be delighted." He answered.

"You're letters better be spectacular or I won't come and pick you up." Adelaide threatened him.
