1943

Adelaide had spent her sixth year how every other normal student would, revising for NEWT's and spending time with their friends. Tom had been doing the exact same thing, but on top of that he had also been doing other stuff that no other normal student would.

"Again Tom, why the hell are we in a girls bathroom instead of doing our prefect duties?" Adelaide asked Tom in a bored voice.
"Just wait." Tom told Adelaide. Excitement could be briefly heard in his voice which caused Adelaide to raise her eyebrows.

Tom walked over to one of the sinks and hissed in parseltongue. Adelaide shivered, it creeped her out when he spoke in that language.

To be surprise the sink started to move and form some sort of archway.
"No way." Adelaide gasped when she realised what Tom had finally discovered. "Is this?" She asks.
He nodded.
"The way to the chamber of secrets." He confirmed. "I found it a few days ago."
Adelaide smacked his arm.
"And you waited that long to tell me!" She exclaimed. "Come on, I wanna see."
Tom grabbed her arm.

"Adelaide, when I tell you to close your eyes you do, okay?" He said in a stern voice.
"I know I will." She promised, remembering the consequences if she looked into the eyes of a basilisk.

They walked over to the entrance.
"How do we get do-"
Adelaide went to ask but Tom took matters into his own hands and jumped down, pulling her along with him.

"Ow." She groaned.
As they were going down Adelaide freaked out and caused them both to land roughly on the ground.
Tom sighed and stood up.

"This is disgusting." Adelaide commented on the bone-riddled ground. "Oh Merlin." She gasped at the length of the snake skin. "I didn't realise how big it could actually be. I can't believe you get to control it."
Tom nodded. He didn't want to repeat his plans to Adelaide anymore. Ever since the incident during the summer, Tom had hardly mentioned anything to do with his aims to her, that's why it took him a few days to decide whether or not he should show her the chamber of secrets.

They got to the final door to the chamber. Tom hissed at it and the snakes moved around before the door clicked open.
Adelaide followed to Tom through the snake door into the most magnificent place she had ever seen. She didn't think it would be so big. There was pipes, a long pathway with pillars that lead to a statue of Salazar Slytherin himself.

"Wow." Adelaide breathed out.
"It's amazing isn't it." Tom agreed as they walked down the pathway. "Close your eyes." Tom whispered and Adelaide done as he said.
Her heart thumped in her chest as Tom spoke in parseltongue causing, what sounded like some stones to move.
Tom grabbed Adelaide's hand and pulled her forward. She could hear the sound of the Basilisk moving against the stone floor and the malicious hissing coming from its mouth.
Adelaide shivered and goosebumps erupted on her skin.

"He won't harm you." Tom promised her and she believed him.
She felt her hand brush across the snakes scaly skin and she smiled a little.
"This is actually a basilisk." Adelaide said in disbelief. "I can't believe you finally did it."
Tom hissed again and the snaked disappeared, and Adelaide finally opened her eyes again.

She looked up at Tom and let out a laugh. Then she hugged him.
"You did it." She whispered.

Students were in the hospital after being petrified. The professors didn't know why it was happening and they scared. Everyone who didn't have pure blood was because they was a chance that they could be next. And that's what people feared, the Unknown. The fear of not knowing when it was their turn.

Adelaide knew who was behind it. But neither her or Tom ever mentioned anything about it. They both went about their day like everybody else.
Adelaide had successfully convinced herself that Tom was doing it for he greater good. That what was happening to the students needed to happen.
Tom had had a bad childhood. Horrible things had happened to him and he didn't deserve any of it. But he did deserve to achieve his goals. He deserved anything he wanted.
