We had to use two lanes, because we had so many people. We decided to play girls vs. boys. It was a great way to break the ice. The boys got hungry so they went to get some popcorn.
The best thing about this boarding school was the fact that there was no money. Everything was free! You could get an ice cream shake and it would always be on the house.
It wasn't very fair that we were playing girls vs. boys. The girls couldn't hit a pin if it was two feet from them, while the guys were like Katniss Everdeen with a bow and arrow. Their scores added up to 1359, and ours to 521. Needless to say, the boys won. After two weeks had passed, we had hung out with the guys every day. Michael and I really clicked. It was like we had been friends forever!
I checked my phone, 3 new messages. After I read the texts from Jacob and Brooklyn, I called Jacob, making sure to dial *67 so he couldn't trace the call back here. He picked up the phone on the fifth tone."Hey, Jacob it's me, Aubrey. I just wanted to call and let you know that I'm fine." I could feel his attitude lighten up when he heard my voice.
"Aubrey, darling! I've missed you! Where are you?""Listen, Jacob, there's so much I want to tell you, but I can't. Trust me, there's nothing bad, I'm not cheating on you," I said jokingly, "or dying, but I'm not allowed to tell anyone." The line went quiet for a short while, then he finally spoke.
"Aubrey, I want you to realize that nothing will ever tear us apart. No matter how big the problem is, we'll work through it. And I hope you may accept me for my faults as well. I'm not perfect, but no one is. I just want you to know that I still love you. I'm so sorry."
"Jacob, I love you too. What are you-"
"Goodbye, Aubrey." He interrupted, and the line went silent. I held on to the phone until I heard the beep, the final sound that told me the conversation was over. That was weird. What could he have been talking about? I went over his words again in my brain.
I hope you may accept me for my faults... I'm not perfect... I still love you... I'm sorry...
Was he sorry because he thought my grandmother had passed? Just then I got a text from Brooklyn.
You wont believe what just happened. Call me -Brook the Beast
I followed the same steps as I did before calling Jacob, and called Brooklyn. She answered on the first ring.
"Are you sitting down, honey?" She seemed sad, for me?
"Now I am, what's wrong?" She sighed, which wasn't a good sign. She only sighed dramatically when something bad had to do with me.
"Okay, hon, I just want you to know that I love you so much, and any guy would be lucky to be with someone as beautiful as you." What the...
"Brook, where is this going?" She sighed, again.
"Well, I was going to take my little brother to the park. While he was there playing with some friends, I was going to go to Sarah's house to pick up a movie she was letting me borrow. I texted her but she didn't answer. I went anyways." She stopped. Almost as if she didnt want to go on.
"No cars were there but hers, and one other that looked like one that I'd seen at school. I tried knocking, no one came to the door, but I could hear her music playing inside. I thought she just didn't hear me, so I opened the door. When I walked in I saw them making out on the couch." My heart sped up ten times the normal speed a heart should go.
"Brook. Who was on the couch?" Tears welt in my eyes.
"Hon, I think you know."
The tears released.
"Jacob.." I whispered through my tears.
Sarah was Jacobs' first girlfriend. They had dated last year, four months before we started dating. He had broken up with her because she was too clingy, or at least that's what he told me.
"Bree, are you alright?" Brooklyn snapped me back into reality, and it didn't feel too good.
"Yea Brook, wow I um, I've got to go. I'll call you back later." It was 10 o'clock, lights out was at 11, and I just needed to go somewhere, anywhere. I found myself running to the secret entrance to the boys dorms. Michelle and Tracy had gone to take showers while Katie was sleeping and I was on the phone. I felt my fingers press the elevator button for floor six. I'll go find the boys. Michael. He'll know what to do. Then i realized something. I had forgotten which room to go to. I just sat in the hall and started crying. When had life turned so sour for me? I used to be a normal girl with a normal life. A boyfriend, good grades, and a best friend. Of course, I still had two of the three, but the fact that he cheated made me miserable. Yes. I was aware of the fact that there were a lot of guys staring at me, wondering who I was, or how I had gotten in their dorm. Then the door to room 67 opened, and out walked a tall blonde with glowing green eyes. When he saw me he ran over to me.
"Aubrey, what;s wrong?" He asked, my mascara was running down my face. I was definitely not a pretty sight. I heard the guys whispering.
"Oh, she must be the new chick. I guess shes dating Michael." It didn't matter to me at this point. I'd gotten used to the whispers at school.
"Here, Aubrey. Come with me." With that he pulled me up to him and looped an arm around me. He gave all the guys that were whispering a death glare that made them all shut up and go back into their rooms. We walked in sweet silence for a few minutes while we walked outside. Surprisingly, none of the staff payed any mind to it. "So, Aubrey, what happened?" We were sitting on a bench outside by the pool. We were the only two there, but at this hour, it was logical. He still had his arm draped over my shoulder.
"My best friend caught Jacob cheating on me with his ex." Michael turned his head and stared at me. He stayed this way without saying anything for a minute. It wasn't the creepy stalker kind of stare, it was the romantic, loving kind of stare.
"Well that's dumb." He was gazing into my eyes, "Because anyone who would cheat on a beautiful girl like you is dumb."
I started blushing, "Thanks, Michael. You're so sweet." For some reason I felt that there was something in his eyes, the way he looked at me just made me melt. What was up with me? My boyfriend just cheated on me and all I could think about was how great Michael was. This boy had my stomach in knots.
"Look, Aubrey, God has a plan for you. Greater than you can ever imagine, and maybe, your boyfriend wasn't part of that plan. No matter what, I will always be here for you."
"Thanks, Michael." He wiped my tears from my eyes, brushed my wet hair out of my face, grabbed my face in his hands, and kissed my forehead. When he pulled away, I could tell my cheeks were beet red. I don't know how, but before I knew it we were kissing. It was just a short peck, but that was all that I wanted.
"You have no idea how long I've waited to do that." He said. I giggled a little, still with my face burning red. We sat there holding hands for about five minutes until I checked my phone for the time, which was 10:50 p.m.
"We probably need to get back." I said. We got up and I gave him a peck on the cheek. We walked back to the school holding hands all the way there until it was where we had to split up. He gave me a hug goodbye, and I walked the whole way back to my room with a huge smile plastered on my face. When I walked in, all the girls looked as if they were mad at me.
"Where have you been?" Katie asked,
"We were worried about you!" Michelle said sharply, like a mother. I told them about Jacob, and then about how I went to find Michael and everything that happened with him. They all squealed,
"We knew you guys liked each other!" Said Katie, and they all giggled. The ten minutes flew by and we all got in our beds by lights out.
