Claire’s P.O.V.
I wake up and check the clock. It reads 6:45 A.M, and its time to get shit done. Its the first day of school, and this year I won't be the big dog. I'm going to be that little, annoying freshman. The first day of high school is always tough. You have to find your classes, figure out your schedule, and most importantly, find your circle. Lucky for me, my best friends and I are going to be reunited after going to different middle schools.
Alyssa, my best friend since kindergarten, was one of the few people I was excited to see. I walked into the courtyard looking like a lost puppy, but soon I saw a familiar face. I couldn’t have been more excited. We had seen each other a few times over the summer, but we had our own friends from our own schools. My two best friends from middle school came walking up a few minutes later. Those two just happened to be named Haily and Rebecca. I met them in sixth grade and we were inseparable since. The last person to join us was Vivian. She walked over like she was a princess, but we wouldn’t have her any other way.
After we all got acquainted and caught up about our summers, the bell rang and we scurried to homeroom before the upperclassmen could realize that we're freshman and shove us into a locker. I walked into my room and saw a name scribbled across the board. It looked like it said Mrs. Bynum, but I couldn’t be sure. All I was sure of was the perfect princess that just walked in. Vivian came and took a seat beside me and dove right into a story about a guy she met in a hotel while she was on vacation in the Florida Keys.
“That’s super cool, Viv!" I was oozing with sarcasm. "Did you get his number? Where does he live? Does he have any pets? What about siblings? How old is he? Tell me exactly what he looks like!”
Before I could continue rambling, she interrupted me.
“Claire! Chill out! To answer your questions: yes, Tennessee, I don’t know! I don’t stalk him! Yes, a younger sister and an older brother, our age, and he has piercing blue eyes, beautiful curly hair, toned muscles. Dear god! He’s a dream boat!”
“Sounds like a looker to me. Do you think he was into you?” She looked offended and like she was ready to attack at my question.
“Of course he was into me! He heard me sing once and that was all it took. I mean come on Claire. Keep up!”
“Wait, you sing! Are you in chorus!” I was really excited. I didn’t know if anyone was in my classes and if I had Vivian in at least one class, that was at least one person to lighten the awkward mood of making friends!
“Uhm…” she checked her schedule.
“Yeah, right here in black and white. Second period.”
“Me too! This is great!”
“Have I told you the story of how I met Sir Mix-A-Lot’s old manager at a beach grill?”
Oh God. Here we go.

*Second Period*
“Guys!?”
“Hey, Claire! I didn’t know you sing!” Alyssa said as she bounced over. She’s the bubbly one in this friendship.
“I didn’t know you sang, either!"
I joined chorus in sixth grade, and that's where I met Haily, and later she introduced me to Rebecca. We had the coolest chorus teacher. She really pushed us to grow as singers and then in the eighth grade, she chose the three of us and a few others to go to this area wide choir where you have to be specially chosen.
“Uh… hello…. Why didn’t you tell me you sang?” Vivian said smiling
“Looks like the five of us have at least one class together!” Alyssa said just as Haily and Rebecca walked over.
Once we got settled, our chorus teacher came in and put the class into their voice parts based on the audition we had to do to be in the chorus. I was assigned to be a Soprano one as well as Vivian and Alyssa, Haily was a Soprano two and Rebecca was an Alto.
“We’ll be starting a piece tomorrow as soon as you come into class, but for today you can have a free period." That was all Vivian needed to hear before she started talking to Alyssa, who sat behind her, and me, who sat directly in front of her.
“You guys know who is, like, totally gorgeous? Rebecca. I mean, her hair is flawless. Why have I never met her before now?” Vivian was too busy staring at Rebecca’s hair to realize that she was rambling.
“I mean, you guys have changed a lot since fifth grade. Claire, I remember when you got that terrible haircut and had stupid glasses.” Alyssa was already laughing.
“Hey Vivian, remember when you ‘accidentally’ put your glue stick in Jamie’s hair? She screamed so loud her nose started bleeding!”
Our little walk down memory lane was interrupted when Mrs. Flore told us class was about to dismiss and to get our things. I found Haily, since we had our next class together and we walked to Mr. Gunner’s class for Algebra.
