A/N
Hello my lovely snow bunnies! This chapter may be slightly confusing because of the multiple changes in point of view and I am soooo sorry in advance! But you get to meet a new person and I’m sure you’ll love him just as much as I do!
Enjoy(:
Claire’s P.O.V.
I wake up to the sound of my alarm, and I’m in my own bed. It may be in awful circumstances, but seeing my own room and being in my own bed with my cat Ginger keeping my feet warm is a great way to start this terrible, awful, no-good, very bad day.
I leave the comfort of my warm bed and am immediately enveloped in the coldness of the house. I slid my hot pink fluffy slippers onto my feet and waddled off to the shower. Once I stripped off my clothes, and stepped into the steamy shower, I instantly felt all the pent up tension in my muscles wash down the drain with the rest of my worries. After I finished my shower routine, I stood in the shower until the water got cold. Pulling back the shower curtain, the cold air hit my freshly shaved legs, causing the hairs to rise up. I mutter a few colorful words under my breath and continued on my way back down the hall to my room.
Once in the security of my room, I dropped to towel from around my body and began to replace it with panties and a bra. I shuffled over to the closet to pick out my outfit when there was a knocking at the door.
“It’s open.” I said not very enthused.
The door slowly opened to reveal my older brother, Jonathan.
“Hey Dixie, how ya holding up?” Jonathan has been my rock throughout this whole experience. We’ve started getting closer this year since we started going to the same school.
“Honestly? I’m a hot mess. I’ve never been in jail or on trial before, much less even in trouble. I’ve never even stepped foot in a court room. Now, my future is at stake. Jonathan, I’m so scared.” I broke down in tear for what seems like the millionth time this week. Jonathan walked over to my side in three steps due to his long legged body, and wrapped a protective arm around my much smaller frame huddle by the closet. I was only in my shirt at this point because I was struggling with the zipper of my skirt. We sat on the floor for a few minutes before he finally spoke up.
“Everything is going to be okay. If everything goes as planned, you’ll be back at home tonight, not spending the night in a jail cell. I’m not going to let anything happen to you, okay? I promise you, everything is going to be alright.” And with that, he got up, gave me a sympathetic smile, and left me to finish getting ready.
I gave up on the skirt with the zipper and just went with a simple skater skirt. When I got my tights situated, I went to the bathroom to do my makeup. When I was done, I went downstairs to meet with my parents. My dad was sitting on the couch watching the news with Jonathan, while my mom was in the kitchen on the phone with Memaw, my grandmother. I heard bits and pieces of the conversation, but it was mainly just my mom telling her about what I’m faced with and what the plan is if the worst happens. My mom saw me out of the corner of her eye and gave me the Hold-On-A-Second finger so she could finish her conversation. When she was done, she turned to me and pulled me into a hug. We stayed that way for a while until my dad came in the kitchen and told us it was time to go. He’s still mad at me about the whole situation. We haven’t had a real conversation in days, and it makes me feel worse than I already feel. Jonathan picked up on my mood and gave me a sympathetic smile, which is all he seems to do lately, and walked me out of the house with his arm around my shoulder.
Jonathan’s P.O.V.
Seeing Claire like this breaks my heart. We’ve had our share of fights, but what siblings don’t argue occasionally? She’s always been there when it counted, and now she needs me more than ever. I mean, sure, she has her friends, but I’m her brother. It’s my job to protect her. Dad being a dick about this isn’t making it better. Travis is his sister’s son. This is his fault. I hope Travis follows through with the plan.
