Claire’s P.O.V.
“Hey babe, can you pass me the pills?” Travis said slightly slurring. Ever since we started hanging out, he’s tried to get me to partake in his drugs usage.
“Fine, whatever. Take them. I’m going to practice.” I’m getting real tired of his bullshit.
He takes the pills and starts to down them with a glass of water.
“Travis, slow the fuck down. If you don’t stop, you are going to get in serious trouble and you are going to die. I swear, I’m getting so done with all of this! The drugs, the alcohol, the casual sex with strangers! Especially the lying, Travis, the lying is the worst. I can handle the fact that you lied to me about the drug, that’s understandable, but I don’t like the fact that you lied about your age and who you are. I get it. We’re family, but that’s no reason to drag me into your problem and expect me not tell someone! I’m leaving for good this time. When you can fix your drug problem, then you can come find me. Until then, were done.” I stormed out and ran down the street towards the school before I was late for practice.
On the way there, I started to think about everything that had happened over the past few days. First, I thought about the search for Travis’s family. He told me a few days ago about how he was adopted, and I believed him, I really did. He was a best friend, even better, my boyfriend. Come to find out he isn’t adopted and his mom is my aunt. He ran away from home with he was fifteen so when he found out where I went to school, he found me and wanted to talk. He’s actually eighteen and has a drug problem. Now, as you can imagine, poor little freshman Claire was a little startled by his sudden open honesty, but all he wanted was someone to get high with, or someone to drink with, or do any number of illegal thing.
Next, I started thinking about what we did. I broke the law big time. He convinced me into breaking into the school after hours and vandalizing Mr. Crotch’s room. We got out before anyone could see us, but it still made me nervous. What if they look at the security tape? What if they recognize me and I get expelled? That would look awful.
As I approach the school I start to go nervous about seeing the girls. I hate lying to them, but this is one thing I can’t tell anyone about him. My whole family will be so disappointed in me.
I’m here.

*Acapella practice*
“Hey guys! Where’s Haily? She said she would be here.” I said trying to sound as cheery as possible.
“I don’t know. I called her and texted her a bunch of times but she hit me with dat no reply!” Alyssa boomed, earning looks from all of us. I wonder if she’s okay. I haven’t heard from her all day.
Then, Scott ran in with a look of pure terror mixed with tears.
“Scott, are you okay? What’s wrong?” Vivian asked with concern.
"Yeah, what's wrong? You look like a train wreck." I stated.
“It’s Haily. I haven’t heard from her since my scuffle with Mark at the mall.” Did that stupid joka just say scuffle?
“Do you think she’s okay?” I heard Rebecca chime in from the other side of the room.
“I don’t know, but we need to find her soon.”
Claire Washington. Come to the front office immediately.
That can’t be good.
I walked down the hall. All I could see was the huge wooden door that said in big, bold letters “FRONT OFFICE” and all I could think about was the vandalization. Do they know?
“Hi, Mrs. Fisher. How are you?” I’m sweating bullets.
“Do not play games with me Miss Washington. You and I both know why you’re here today.” She gave a look as if to say ‘just confess now.’
“Mrs. Fisher, I need a moment to explain. I now it looks bad…” She cut me off.
“Miss Washington, if you have such a great explanation, explain this.” She goes into her drawers and pulls out a bag of weed.
It couldn’t be mine. I don’t do drugs. Travis had to have planted it. I can’t get in trouble.
“How do you know it’s mine?”
“I saw you on the tape, Claire.” Shit.
“It isn’t mine.” I can’t tell on Travis.
“We have proof. I’m sorry Miss Washington. It’s yours. Boys.”
Policemen walked in and began to cuff me.
“Miss, you’re under arrest. You have the right to remain silent…” and I began to hear my Miranda Rights. This can’t be good. What is happen? Why is this happening! I need to talk to Travis! Now!
“Hails! Viv! Becca! Alyssa! Call Travis now!” I shouted at the top of my lungs trying to get their attention from the hallway, while they were practicing.
This can’t happen.
