Lilly's POV

I woke up and it was February 14, which meant my first Valentines Day with Caleb.

I crawled over a sleeping Ashley (her birthday was the day before, so we had a sleepover) and grabbed my phone to see a text from Caleb.

C: happy Valentines Day 💜❤️ ily
L: tysm! Ily 2 😘 but we need to talk
C: when?
L: how about later tonight at the park near my house, around 7
C: okay, see u then

I sighed and put my phone down. I hated ruining our first Valentines Day already, but I had to talk to him about our relationship. It seems to be falling apart lately, but I know we both love each other and we don't want to end this relationship.

It was almost seven, and I was sitting on a bench as Caleb came walking up with a bag and balloon.

"Happy Valentines Day." He smiled and handed me the balloon and bag.

I grinned and hugged him. "Thank you! Can I open it now?"

"Of course!" Caleb exclaimed. I began to open the bag, but Caleb grabbed my hand and looked me in the eye. "But first, I want a kiss."

I smiled and gave him a quick kiss before opening my bag.

Inside was a stuffed dog holding a heart that said "I Love You More Than My Bone" and the balloon was a red heart.

"This is so cute, thanks!" I smiled and hugged him again.

Then I stopped smiling, and so did Caleb. "What's up?"

I sighed. "We need to talk about our relationship—"

Just then, my phone rang. I looked to see it was my mom.

"One sec." I told Caleb as I answered. "Hello?"

"Lilly, its starting to get dark, please come home." Mom said.

I rolled my eyes and sighed, yet agreed.

"I have to get home now." I said as I stood up. "Come with me outside my house so we can talk."

"Okay." Caleb agreed, held my hand, and we headed to my house.

When we reached my room, I sighed and said, "I'm not happy."

"About what..?" Caleb asked.

"Us. Look, we've been having issues lately and I hate it. I know relationships can't be perfect, Caleb, but we need to try more." I said as I held his hand.

"What are you saying?" Caleb asked as he snatched his hand away. "Are you unhappy?"

"Yes!" I screamed, and I knew another argument was gonna come up. "Yes, I'm unhappy!"

"Why?" Caleb screamed back.

"Because we always fight! We can never get along, never agree on anything, and we never want to do anything together! Plus, we don't trust each other!" I yelled.

Caleb jumped up and put his hands in the air. "Then you should try harder."

"Me?" I asked with my eyes wide. "What about you? We're in this together!"

"You're right, we are! That's why you should try harder!"

"We both need to try harder, Caleb! Stop blaming me for all your problems!" I screamed.

"This relationship isn't working out!" Caleb yelled as he stood at my door.

"You're absolutely right!" I screamed back.

"Then we should breakup, since we're both unhappy!" Caleb screamed.

That's when I stopped yelling and screaming. My mouth fell open, and I felt tears form in my eyes. Then I nodded and looked at my feet. "I guess we should."

"Fine! We're breaking up! Good bye!" Caleb yelled as he slammed the door closed and left.

That's when I broke down in tears. Through my tears, I looked over at my desk and saw my rose that Caleb gave me.

I saw the petal slowly fall to the ground, leaving an empty greenish-brown stem leaning sideways.

I grabbed the dead plant, screamed, then threw it at my door. The pot smashed at the floor of my door and brown soil was all over the place. I continued screaming and crying as I kept throwing the broken pieces around.

"What is all this racket?!" Mom yelled as she opened my door.

I continued crying uncontrollably as Mom sat next to me and hugged me.

"Caleb left pretty upset. You guys broke up, didn't you?" Mom asked.

I nodded and cried into her shoulder.

"I'm sorry, Lil." Mom rubbed my back as I cried.

I fell asleep crying that night, and when I woke up I hoped it was all just a nightmare. But when I looked at the foot of my door, I saw the soil and broken flower pot pieces scattered across the floor.

That's when I decided to spend my day in my bed eating a bunch of junk food and binge watching Netflix shows, including my favorite cliché movie Mean Girls.

When the movie ended, I just yelled at my screen, "So Cady ends up happy because she ends up with the cute and popular jock Aaron? This is not real! This is unrealistic! Relationships never have happy endings, they just end!"

That's when I found myself breaking down and crying again. I needed help...

I just wish none of this ever happened, that I could forget everything that happened.

But life is never that easy, is it?
