Caleb's POV

I woke up laying in a hospital bed, my head pounding and throbbing. I looked down at my leg and saw a cast.

Then I screamed, which hurt my head more.

A couple nurses came running in. "What's the matter?" One asked. "Check his vitals!" The other yelled.

My vitals were just fine, and I told them I screamed just because 1) I was in pain and 2) I wasn't sure what was going on.

"Don't you remember?" One nurse asked; her name tag read Sherri. "A car hit you, you hit a wall and got a concussion, stitches in your head, and a broken leg. Also a bit of a broken nose, but that's easily fixable."

"Oh. No, I don't remember." I said.

The nurse nodded and left the room, telling my family I was awake.

Mom came in crying. She ran over and hugged me, asking me if I was okay. Next came in Dad, Hayley, and Annie, who did the same.

I know I was mad at her earlier, but I just wanted to see Lilly.

I wanted her to be the one hugging me, and I wanted her to be here. I don't care anymore if she likes me that way...

I just want her here, by my side.

Lilly's POV

A little while after I got home, Annie texted me and said that Caleb was awake. She said his head, back, and leg hurt, but otherwise he was alright and would leave in a couple days due to his back surgery.

I sighed of relief when I got the text and I cried a little. "Thanks, God." I said quietly.

Mom came in and opened the door a bit. She stood in the doorway and asked, "Any news on Caleb?"

I nodded. "He's hurting, but alright."

"Great!" Mom came over and gave me a quick hug. "Maybe after school tomorrow you can go and visit him."

"Really?!" I asked. Mom nodded. I hugged her. "Thank you!"

I couldn't wait for tomorrow.

Finally tomorrow came. In eighth period (geometry; ugh) I couldn't even focus. All I did was stare at the clock the whole time and wait for it to be 3 o'clock, when the bell would ring and I could go see Caleb.

"Lilly! Why don't you answer this question?" Mr. Parker, my teacher, asked.

"Sorry, I wasn't paying attention." I admitted.

"I still want you to answer this question." He pointed to the board at the question he wanted me to answer.

He's such a jerk! But I looked at the problem and tried to solve it.

"Uh, x equals negative five?"

"Correct." He said as he wrote it down.

A few minutes later the bell rang. I sprinted out the door and hopped into my mom's car when I got to the car line and we drove over to the hospital.

When we arrived and were checking in at the front desk I found my hands shaking. I was really nervous to see how Caleb looked.

We headed in the elevator and got to the floor where Caleb was; recovery.

My knees were also shaking while we were walking down the hallway to his room.

I stopped in front of his room and my hands were shaking like crazy as I knocked on his door.

My mom placed her hands on my shoulder. "It'll be alright."

Hayley opened the door and grinned when she saw me. "Lilly!" She gave me a big hug.

"Lilly's here?" I heard Caleb ask from the room.

I walked in and waved. "Hi."

"I'm so glad you're here!" Caleb exclaimed as I came over and hugged him.

"I missed you." He whispered in my ear.

"I missed you too." I replied as I pulled away. I looked at his injured body and almost cried. He looked awful.

"How are you feeling? I was so worried when Lilly told me what happened." Mom asked Caleb as she gave him a small hug.

He shrugged. "My back hurts more than anything, really, but other than that, I'm alive!"

Everyone laughed. I sat in a chair next to Caleb's bed and talked to him and his family for a while.

A couple hours later Mom said we should get going.

"It's almost five and you still have homework to do, Lil. Let's get going." Mom said.

I looked up at the clock on top of Caleb's TV and nodded.

"I gotta go." I gave him a quick hug. "When do you leave the hospital?"

"Just a couple more days. Then I have to lay in my bed for a while before I can actually walk and stand up properly." Caleb replied.

"Okay. Bye, guys." I waved at the family before Mom and I left.

I was so relieved that Caleb was okay. I mean, he's not in perfect condition, but not in terrible condition, either.

I couldn't wait for him to leave the hospital so we could talk more in private about what he said to me. I had been thinking about it a lot, so I really wanted to talk to him about it.
