Chapter 12. "Lilly, why?"

Lilly's POV

I woke up this morning realizing it was the first day of summer, which meant pulling all-nighters (like I always do), sleeping in as late as I please, no homework (except summer reading), and I can hang out with my friends whenever I want.

Today I was supposed to head to Caleb's house so we could hang out. We started getting closer again after his Easter party, and we've become really good friends again.

It almost felt like I had just met him again at that meetup Ashley dragged me to; it felt like starting over, which felt good.

After I dragged myself out of bed (which took about an hour, I'll admit) and ate some brunch, I called Ashley to drop me off at Caleb's. Because she's older than me, she already has her license, which means I can bug her to drive me places.

I smiled as I hopped into the passenger seat.

"Hey, Lil, ready for the start of summer?" Ashley asked as she drove out of my driveway.

I nodded. "Yeah, it's gonna be great. Got any plans I don't know about?"

"Well, my mom and dad surprised my brother and I today that we're going to Islands of Adventure in Florida for his birthday." Ashley said.

"That's awesome! Mind if I tag along..?"

Ashley laughed. "As long as you pay, I don't care. Also, my parents are gonna get a rental car up there so I can practice driving."

"Cool." I said.

Ashley shrugged. "Not really."

We chatted until we arrived at Caleb's house.

We hugged each other a quick goodbye before Ashley left.

I walked up and knocked on the door.

Hayley opened it and smiled. "Ashley, hey!" She hugged me.

"Hi Hayley!" I exclaimed as I hugged her back.

As I walked inside, I saw Annie doing her makeup on the couch. She looked up and smiled at me.

"Hi Annie!" I waved.

"Hey, Lilly! Oh, if you're wondering, Caleb is downstairs with Sydney. She came to hang out with me, but since she and Caleb are dating, she wanted to hang with him too." Annie replied.

I nodded and thanked her before heading downstairs to Caleb's room.

As I approached his room, I realized his door was open. When I looked in, I saw him and Sydney making out on his bed.

I stood there for a few more moments to see if he'd notice me, but when he didn't I just cleared my throat to finally get his attention.

Also, I didn't feel bad about ruining their peaceful moment.

They both immediately jumped off of each other and looked around awkwardly.

Caleb scratched his head awkwardly. "Hey, Lilly. You're here early."

I shook my head and pointed at the clock on his wall. "Actually, I'm a couple minutes late."

He laughed awkwardly.

"Well, I should probably get back to Annie." Sydney said as she stood up. "See you later, babe, love you." She walked over and gave Caleb a quick kiss before leaving.
