It was the eve of RJ's 25th birthday and his girlfriend for three years has not yet contacted him. Nasa Japan kasi si Maine ngayon. The last time they talked was about her going home on the 31st. Kaso January 1 na, hindi pa rin siya nakakauwi. Kinakabahan na tuloy siya. Hindi niya alam kung may surprise ba si Maine sa kanya o sadyang iniiwasan lang siya ng girlfriend. Sana yung una na lang, he thought to himself. Wala naman akong ginawa para iwasan ako kaya sana surprise na lang.

Every year for his birthday, they make it a point to spend it together as what they also do on Maine's. They'd do roadtrips after EB, kahit saang magustuhan ni Maine. After that, may pinupuntahan silang lugar, a place overlooking Metro Manila where there's already a prepared food for them na. Usually, nagsasabi na si Maine two days before para sa plano nila pero ngayon, wala. Nganga. Kinakabahan na talaga siya.

9:30 na pala, he said to himself. Nagkulong lang siya sa kwarto the whole day, nakikinig ng music. After his gig para sa New Year's salubong, umuwi lang siya, nagdala ng pagkain at nagkulong sa kwarto. Umalis ulit siya for SPS, umuwi rin pagkatapos. Kumain naman siya pagdating niya ng mga 4pm. After that, nagkulong na ulit siya sa kwarto. Huling kain na nga niya yata yun since dumating siya galing trabaho. Hindi niya namalayan na halos January 2 na pala.

Lumabas siya ng kwarto. Walang tao. "Dad?" Walang sumagot. "Riza?" Wala pa rin. "Nasaan kaya sila?"

He went on to check his phone when he saw a little piece of paper hanging on their christmas tree. It was a note.

Please don't get mad. I have a little surprise for you. Meet me where you last saw me.

"Susmaryosep naman to si Menggay, ngayon pa nangganito. Uuwi na pala edi sana nagpasundo na lang siya sa airport."

The last place he saw her was at Broadway, kaya medyo naiinis siya dahil kailangan pa niyang magdrive from Sta. Rosa to Broadway.

"Dad, kung tinataguan niyo man ako, aalis muna ko!" He shouted. Wala talagang sumasagot, pambihira. He grabbed his keys and went to the driveway. Ginamit na lang niya yung jaguar niya.

Himalang wala masyadong traffic kaya nakarating siya sa Broadway at around 10:20pm. "Sir Alden!" Bati ng guard sa kanya. "Ano pong ginagawa niyo dito?"

"Ah, kuya. Nandiyan po ba si Maine?"

"Naku sir, nagkasalisi kayo! Kaaalis niya lang ho."

"Seryoso?"

"Opo. Mga 10 minutes ago po."

Nainis siya. He grabbed his phone from his pocket and dialed his girlfriend's number. Cannot be reached, bwisit. He was about to dial again when he heard the guard call him.

"Ay sir, pinapabigay po ni Madam."

He grabbed the piece of paper from him and read the note.

Nguso mo, love. Irita ka na ba? Please go at Kuya Ryan's house, may ibibigay siya sayo from Ate Juday. You'll love it.

"Pucha! E sa South pa yon!"

"Sir, okay lang ho kayo?"

Napatingin siya sa guard na nakakunot lang yung noo sa kanya. "Okay lang, kuya. Sige alis na ho ako."

He drove back to the South where the Agoncillos live. He arrived a little later than 11:15pm. Sinalubong siya ng mag-asawa.

"Kuya Ry! Sorry, nakakaistorbo ba ko?"

"Naku, hindi naman Tisoy! Hindi ka na namin patatagalin kasi baka ma-late ka pa," he gave him a box. "Pinapaabot ni Maine yan."

"Ano to kuya?"

"Mamaya mo na buksan," Juday said. "And here's another note. Ingat pagdrive ha?"

"Thank you ate. Regards na lang sa mga bata! Dalaw ako next week." And he went off to his car.

He opened the note and it says,

Last na talaga love. Meet me where I first said I love you to you.

Nasa bahay nila silang dalawa when Maine said that. It was a spur of the moment thing, they were playing with Globie, Philip and Nini when she said that. Umuwi na siya.

Napapagod na siya, sa totoo lang. He never expected Maine to have this surprise. Dati gusto niya pa yung mga ganito. Pero ngayon, parang gusto niya na lang humiga at makatabing matulog ang girlfriend niya. Nakakapagod magdrive, Menggay. Kung di lang kita mahal, susmaryosep. He mumbled to himself.

He arrived at their house at 11:55. Patay pa rin ang mga ilaw. He went inside to open the lights when he saw a note posted, DO NOT OPEN ME. Sulat ni Maine to ah? He said to himself.

From there, he saw his Ironman mini figures lined up. May mga hawak silang polaroids, his and Maine's. Sinundan niya ito, hanggang umabot sila sa pintuan ng kwarto niya.

12:00mn. Saktong tapat niya sa pintuan ng kwarto niya. Happy Birthday, RJ, he mumbled to himself. He's going to celebrate it alone.

Or so he thought.

He opened the door of his room and found his girlfriend lying on his bed, snuggling her favorite shirt of his. On his bedside table lies a pretty big gift, wrapped in an Ironman wrapping paper nonetheless. There were balloons hanging on his room with polaroids at the end. He went on to his bed and cuddled beside her, giving her light kisses on her head.

She groaned a little, and turned around to face him. "Love..."

"Sige na matulog ka na muna." He said, leaving a peck on her lips.

"What time is it?"

"12:05."

She stood up immediately. "Shoot! Love, I'm sorry!" She said as she showered him with kisses on his face.

He pulled her closer to him and hugged her tight, snuggling his face on her neck. "I love you."

"RJ..."

"Gusto ko lang naman makasama ka sa birthday ko. Okay na ko dun. Akala ko kanina wala ka. Hindi ka kasi tumawag the whole day."

"Nandito na ko when you left earlier. Nauna na akong umuwi kina tatay. Isa lang kasi yung available seat when I tried to move it for an earlier flight. Pinauna na lang nila ako."

"What? Pumayag sila?"

"Tinutulak na nga ako ng nanay pauwi. Umiiyak na kasi ako kanina nung nasa airport kami. Nadelay pa ako ng isang oras."

"How did you.."

"I texted Kuya Ryan earlier. Yung note sa Broadway, sila na yung nagbigay. Iba kasi talaga yung plano ko dapat kaso I can't pull it off anymore. Next time na lang. Kaya I baked something na lang for you nung umalis ka."

She stood up and went outside his room. Pagbalik niya, she was holding a cake. "I was baking this kanina. Remember? Mainebow cake."

Nilapag muna nila yung cake sa bedside table. RJ was feeling a bit emotional earlier but he fullblown cried like a baby upon seeing the Mainebow cake.

"Uy, RJ.. bakit ka umiiyak?" She asked him as she started consoling him, giving him light pats on his back.

"Mahal na mahal kita, Maine. Sobra."

"Shh.. I love you so much, love. Sorry kung napagod ka pa kanina magdrive."

"Okay lang. Basta kasama na kita ngayon, okay na ko."

"Cute mo. Happy Birthday, baby! Oh, make a wish then blow your candle na."

He blew the candle and gave her a kiss. "Love you."

"I love you too. Pero teka bakit ang bilis?! What did you wish for?"

"It just came true love, it just came true."
