Richard Faulkerson Sr., President and CEO of the Faulkerson Group which manages a chain of 5-star hotels and resorts all over the world, is having a hard time with his 25-year old son, Richard Jay. Simula nung mamatay ang mommy ni RJ, as he fondly calls him, hindi na ito napirmi sa kanilang bahay sa Manila. Instead, his son has jet-setted the whole world, leaving his mess one place at a time. Kaya naman ngayon, gusto na niyang ayusin ito.
Richard Sr. has a meeting with Teddy Mendoza of the Mendoza Industries one friday afternoon para sa isang merger. The Mendozas are known for their chain of restaurants here and abroad and they have talked about putting up a restaurant on all the hotels under the Faulkerson Group.
It was after the meeting when Teddy and Richard had "the talk" about their respective children.
"Kamusta na nga pala ang unica hija mo, kumpadre?" Richard Sr. asked his friend after sipping from his cup of coffee.
"Still the same, kumpadre. Jetsetting the world. She only talks to her mom. Mary Ann told me earlier that she's in Monaco as of this moment."
Maine Mendoza, the restaurant heiress, is last seen at the pristine beaches of Monaco where she was spotted chilling with a couple of friends she met at Parsons School of Design where she is studying her second degree, fashion.
"Sumasakit na ba ang ulo mo, kumpadre?" Richard Sr. laughed for a moment. "Pareho lang pala tayo ng pinagdadaanan sa mga anak natin."
"RJ hasn't come home yet?"
"Not in almost three years."
"Well I thought you've asked him to manage the company?"
"Which he declined. He doesn't want to stay in the confines of a four walled room. Mas gusto niyang nasa labas siya. Napagalitan ko nga ng isang beses, sayang naman ang napag-aralan niya sa business school."
"Maine is like that, ayaw napipirmi sa iisang lugar. She likes travelling, but not socializing. Though I must admit, my daughter has an eye for good fashion," Teddy beams proudly. "From time to time, she sends me the designs on what to wear and our personal sewer will do it for me. Kumpleto ang instructions, kumpadre."
The two men were laughing at stories about their respective children when one of the phones rang. It was Richard Sr.'s.
"I'll just take this call, kumpadre," he excused himself to his friend and talked to the other person on the line.
A few moments later, Richard Sr. went back to his chair. "It was RJ, he asked if he can use the private plane. He's leaving for Monaco tomorrow morning."
"Well I thought he's in Cancun right now?"
Richard Sr. sipped from his cup of coffee. "Apparently, nagsasawa na daw siya. Well I told him he could use the plane, as long as he meets your daughter in Monaco."
"What does my daughter have to do with this, kumpadre?"
"Well, think about it. My son and your daughter, just for one date. It wouldn't hurt if she dates my son, right?"
"Hmm, I think it would be nice to see the both of them together."
"Are you in for this, kumpadre?"
Teddy just raised his glass. "Do what you gotta do, kumpadre."
***
RJ annoyingly drops the call. It was the fifth time his dad called him after landing in Monaco, almost two hours ago. He said he wanted him to meet the daughter of his kumpadre, Teddy Mendoza. Well, he knows her. Who wouldn't even know Maine Mendoza? The restaurant heiress who happens to be his long time crush?
