Dan's POV

"Dan! Get your makeup done already!" Grey shouts, glaring angrily at me.

I scowl at him. "Don't push it, Grey."

"Aw, c'mon kid this isn't that bad." Mark says, grinning. Of course, he'd be very happy about today.

It's our graduation day and some genius decided it'd be a good idea if the juniors did a play to make it special. Seniors have a separate thing happening tomorrow, but tonight's the night us juniors embarrass ourselves.

How will we embarrass ourselves, you ask? Well, we're doing a play.

On Romeo and Juliet.

Modern version.

I'm pretty sure at this point you can tell who's playing who.

"Romeo! Get your costume on!" Olivia shouts at Mark.

"Juliet, get your makeup on." Noelle says, waving her makeup brushes in my face.

I scowl. I absolutely hate my life.

Literally, everyone I know is going to be here, watching me make a fool out of myself. I didn't want to be Juliet. Olivia was supposed to do but made me do it because she wanted to see Mark and I kiss on stage.

Everyone else doesn't seem to care because Mark and I are friends and we show a lot of PDA in school anyway. But, we haven't come out to the entire school.

So, anyways, you know the story of Romeo and Juliet, right? Two star-crossed lovers whose families hate each other, they're forbidden to get married but do so anyway in secret.

Some shit happens and in the end, Romeo and Juliet die. Well, we changed the ending to make it that they die together in each other's arms instead of separately.

There's also supposed to be some douche who Juliet is meant to be marrying and I don't know who's playing him.

Grey and Noelle are meant to be my parents and Jacob and Olivia are Mark's parents. It's really weird and messed up. We got better roles than the popular kids.

Most of the kids in our grade have backstage roles. Technically, I'm a backstage member too since most of the props and costume designs were made by me.

Everyone was surprised that I know how to design clothes. Seriously, these people underestimate me too much.

"This is going to be one of a hell of a play." Noelle muses, as she helps me with my black wig. If I hadn't gotten my hair cut yesterday I wouldn't have to be wearing a damn wig.

"This is going to be one hell of a disaster." I grumble. "There's no way Mark is going to be able to control himself."

She giggles. "That's what makes this even more interesting!"

"Yeah, we'll see about that when he tears my dress off in front of everyone, revealing my gender. There's a chance homophobic people are going to be in the crowd and we're going to get in massive trouble."

"You're worrying about irrelevant things! Worry about how our parents are going to react! My parents, the Clarkes, Rose and the Sparks are here, yanno?"

"You've gotta be kidding me. There's no way Mom and Rose are going to stay quiet! They'll recognize me!"

"Your cousins here too, kid." Jacob says, frowning. "Who invited him?"

I groan in annoyance. "Dad must've brought him along. God, damn it!"

"No kidding." Jacob mutters, glaring at the floor. I don't know what he has against Tyler, but it's a little weird how he and Tyler are always asking about the other.
