Chapter 16 : Jane from both of the worlds

My eyelids felt heavy... My head hurt like hell.... Where the hell was I??? With a groan, I sat up on the ground and looked around me. I was surrounded by... White. Wait, white? That kind of reminded me something.... I tried to remember, but before I could say anything, a white form appeared in front of me.

-You are-

-I'm aware that you know me, so I'll just skip the presentations.

-Truth, what am I doing here? Isn't FMA just a... manga?

It shrugged. Why did I have the feeling it was smiling??

-You want power right? Your brother is going to be badly hurt, not to mention that girl....

I thought carefully and nodded, perfectly knowing there would be a price. After all, Equivalent Exchange right...? A girl appeared next to the Truth. She had an automail leg and a patch on her right eye. But her left one was shining a beautiful shade of green and only happiness could be seen on her face.

-Truth, I hope you won't make her pay as much I did.... she muttered.

-Jane? it exclaimed, how did you-

-That's a secret! she smiled winking with her unique eye.

I already hear that name.... Who said it already...? It was impossible for me to remember!! I frowned and looked at her as she turned toward me.

-Hello Kathleen. I know you, but you aren't aware of who I am. That's quite strange, I know, but I'd like to tell you I'm not here to harm you.

-Jane, I'm aware I-

-Truth, we are talking! she cut it.

She seemed so confident, I was almost shameful next to her...

-What are you here for then? I asked her, and what the hell are you doing here?

-Well, I forgot to tell our friend here, but I have a regular access to my Gate, she explained as it showed behind her.

Truth wasn't smiling anymore.

-I'm quite weird, but that would be too long to explain, she told me seriously, but as soon as I knew you'd be here, I came.

-Jane, Kathleen, let me cut you please, Truth spoke, why did you come Jane? That's none of your business!

She thought three seconds before answering with a bright smile.

-Because Kathleen is like my opposite!

That took me aback. I didn't get a word of what she said! But curious to know more, I asked her:

-What do you mean by that?

-Ah, that's right, you made her pay a heavy price this day Truth... she glared at him slightly while crossing her arms.

-I know right?? But it was necessary!!

-What price? When? What happened?!?! I asked upset not to understand.

Jane looked at me more serious than ever and her green eye turned purple. I backed slightly, frightened, but Truth stopped me.

-Wait, she is going to tel you, it said.

I nodded slightly, still wanting to run away from that evil presence I suddenly felt.

-My name is Loneliness, a different voice spoke.

-WHAT?! I exclaimed now clearly afraid.

-I'm a homunculus. Jane is the body I use because my creator, Father, decided so. Because she is embarrassed to tell you, I'll do it for her. Few months ago, she fell asleep to never wake up again, and she landed in Amestris.

Ah wait, I knew that story, I already hear it...

-Many things happened, she was in fact manipulated by a powerful entity, but Truth stopped this entity and now the "real" Jane died so the Jane in Amestris could live.

I was about to say something when the entire room suddenly started to tremble. Loneliness was thrown to the ground next to Truth and so did I. The shock was so strong, the room got darker and all the Gates disappeared. What was going on?? I noticed a huge rift on the ground, bit too far, as a dark light came out of it. We were blinded for about a minute before it stopped. When the shock was gone and everything went back to normal, except the rift, we could see a girl, standing in front of us.

-Not her... Truth cursed.

I raised an eyebrow as she got closer with a plastic bottle in her hand. She handed it to me.

-Don't ask this thief for more power, just call me and you'll have it free, she smirked.

-Who are you...? I gritted my teeth not taking her bottle.

She seemed hurt and made it disappear.

-My name is Jessica, I'm an immortal who rules all of the worlds.

I bit my lower lip. Oddly enough, that brought back some blurred memories to me.

-Jessica, leave this world please, you did enough here! Loneliness said.

Her voice was mixed with Jane's as if the two became one person. Their personalities weren't too opposite then...

-Huh, you were my best experience, that's so bad you were broken by the Truth! she snapped at Jane.

This one turned into the human again and looked sad, her only eye glared darkly at the newly arrived girl.

-I didn't ask you to break my mind like this, she replied.

-If not me, who would have brought you here eh? she smirked, not this guy at least.

She pointed at the Truth.

-Aaaand, I didn't make her pay the price, she added proudly.

-All you do is breaking the laws, Jessica, Truth said.

-I don't mind! I'm here to break the laws after all !

I decided maybe did I have to interfere...?

-Hey, I don't know what's going on here but it sounds fishy to me!

-Whaaat? Fishy? Huh! You don't know what you're talking about, but I'll come back, don't worry!

With a simple snap of her fingers, she disappeared, and the rift with her. I was speechless. But Jane and the Truth weren't reassured at all. I looked at them, in hope to relax a little the atmosphere....

-Well... what about my deal? I asked them, what will I get and for what price?

The Truth and Jane looked at each other and nodded at the same time.

-I'll live in your body, she told me, with Loneliness. That's the price you'll pay for using alchemy in your world and this.

She showed me a card game with the FMA characters drawn on each of them.

-You can summon one of them three times only, so choose wisely when you do.

I nodded.

-I suppose you aren't easy to live with right?
