Burned Out Flames

Chapter 6

After class today I decided to go to the cafe and get a cup of tea to ease my nerves. Suddenly , there was a loud cry and I looked up to see what was going on.
" So that's it ? We're done just like that ? ", she asked with visible tears in her eyes. " Just like that ", He stood up grabbing his things and placed money onto the table. " Why ? What did I do " , Her voice broke and so did her heart.

" You did nothing wrong , I just don't feel the same anymore ". She didn't respond , instead she put her head in her hands and let her tears fall.

" How can I make this less painful for you ? ".

" Stay ", She looked up at him with pleading eyes.

He shook his head a little then brushed his hand against her arm as he walked by , not saying another word.

I watched him leave and looked back at the girl who sat there wiping her tears probably absorbing everything that just happened. After a couple minutes she took another sip of her drink and blew out the candle in front of her then left the building.
I sipped my tea and looked away. Poor girl. I wish I could comfort her and tell her that everything will be okay , even if it won't for a few weeks or months. Breakups are one of the most painful things in the world , it destroys you mentally. But not all breakups are bad , some are for the best.

" Is this seat taken ? ". "yes ", I put my foot in the other seat. " Fine, I'll just take the other seat ". Then he sat on my lap.

" Archer get up " ,I whined a little. " Say please and move your foot ". " Please and move your foot". He narrowed his eyes at me.

" You know what I mean ". " Fine ", I moved my foot and he sat in the chair in front of me. "Why are you sitting here all alone ?".

" I just felt like being alone right now ".

" Am I interrupting ? ".

" Yes ", I drank my tea.

" I'm sorry ", He got up from the table. " I guess I'll see you later then ".

" You can stay archer ".

" Are you sure ? I don't want to invade your space ".

" I'm sure ", He sat back down and looked out the window. " I ran into some girl on the way in , She looked heart broken. I wonder what happened ".

"Her boyfriend broke up with her ,the whole scene was saddening".

" I gave her a rose and told her there will be brighter days ".

" Aw that's so sweet ". He glanced at me and traced his finger on the table , " It was originally for you".

" Well I'm glad you gave it to her, she needed it more than me ", I smiled a little , " Thank you ". He nodded and we sat in silence for awhile and I didn't mind at all.

" So have I leveled up from acquaintance yet ? ".

" Not quite ",he whined.

" Why not ? ".

" You didn't earn my friendship yet ".

" How do I earn your friendship ? ".

" Figure it out ".

" Ok , how about I take you out Wednesday ? ".

" No ".

" Why not ? ". I don't know actually.

" I don't want to ".

" Please ".

" No ",I looked at my watch and paid for my drink , " I got to go". I got up and walked away from the table.

" You're a real asshole I hope you know that ". " What ? I did nothing but decline his offer ". My best friend rolled her eyes and continued to paint her toe nails.

" He's trying his best and you're just throwing his effort in the trash ".

" Not completely , its not like I ignore him or anything".

" Ok but you're pushing him away  when he's trying to make things better between you two ".

" maybe he's just forcing himself back into my life when he wasn't needed ". She paused and looked at me , " Wow ", She shook her head , " Since when did you get all cold hearted ".

" I'm not I just... ".

"its okay I understand but how many years ago was this ? Stop holding this grudge and let it go ".

" But- ".

" I said let it go ".

" Alright fine I'll let it go ". Will I really ?

" Good now repeat after me..I'm an asshole "

" What ? "

" Say it "

I rolled my eyes , " I'm an asshole ".

" Now say I'm the biggest asshole in this room ".

" No this is ridiculous ".

" Say it Akilah ".

" I'm the biggest asshole in this room ".

"  Louder ".

" I'm not doing this Lela ", She laughed, " I didn't think you'd actually say it ".

" So I said this for no reason ? ".

" Not entirely but yeah ". I picked up one of her pillows and threw it at her , messing up her nail polish.

" I'm gonna fucking kill you ". I laughed and hoped she wasn't actually going to kill me. Especially for ruining her nail polish... Yeah she might do it.
