The morning sun peeked through the window in the far corner. Sawako was still sleeping next to Kotoro. Through the course of the night he had turned and set his hand around her, his movement caused by his typical lack of sleep. Her face was buried in his chest, she seemed calm. He woke slowly but early, he usually made his own food before one of his mother's cooked breakfast. She felt him shift and woke up as well, noticing how they were sleeping.
"Morning. Any preference for breakfast?"
"I'm allergic to food," she said as she was half asleep.
"I guarantee you're not allergic to food, but it seems you're not a morning person. You should get a little more rest before your child wakes up"
"Just give me a few cups of coffee and I'll be good"
"Will do" he said as he headed off to the kitchen. She looked inside her bag and took off her pants, replacing them with shorts. Laying back down she stared at the wall wondering what she had to do today. After a few minutes he came back with milk, two mugs, and a pot of coffee.
"let it cool for a little, it's a few seconds fresh. What does sapphire enjoy?" Sawako points to her chest. Kotoro nodded in response
"Just let me know when she gets hungry then.." he stated awkwardly
"I'll just feed her in the bathroom"
"I meant for future reference."
"I can just go into the bathroom where it's more private "
"It's equally as private as the rest of this house if I'm not in the area. I have the only key."
"I guess"
"Speaking of which" he finished his glass of milk "I'm gonna go shower" he said as he walked to the bathroom.
"I should go out and find an apartment," she said as she took out her phone, checking the area for available places. Only three came up and they were on the other side of the city. "Good enough." She brushed her hair and replaced her shirt with a clean one.
"You gonna head out then?"
"Yeah, I just need to wait for Sapphire to wake up."
"alright" the water was heard turning off after a bit. She slipped on her shoes and walked over to the crib. The small child began to stir awake. She smiled and held the child in her arms, kissing their face. She sat back on the bed and drank her coffee. After drinking four cups she put her phone in her pocket and went out the door. The early morning sun seemed warm to her, the air was cool and comforting. Sapphire was against Sawako's chest as she walked towards the city.
"Three places to look at and we only have the whole day. Maybe I should spoil you once I get a job again."
After a long day Sawako sat in a cafe to rest, she had finally found a two room apartment for her and Sapphire. Now she just needed to look for a job, her savings will let her live there for half a year without work but she needed the job to give her baby everything she needs. She had another two days until she could move in, after that...she didn't know if she'd be returning to school or not. She decided not to dwell on it too much, or else she'd get sick. Hearing a loud crash from inside the cafe's kitchen she turned to see a girl run out and thrown her apron on the floor. Someone who seemed to be a higher up tried to run after her but was too slow to catch up. Sawako stood up and walked over to the man.
"Excuse me but did she just quit?"
"Yeah, she was one of our long time workers. She just stormed out and said she quit."
"Will the job be available to anyone?"
"Depends if they have experience with food service."
"Lucky for you I used to work in a bakery, mind giving me an interview?"
