It's been two years since she dropped out of school. She looked even more tired but she still looked decent enough to have her job. She pinned up her hair with a rose pin and put on her shoes. Her uniform looked clean and in order as she walked out of her room.
"Sapphire come on, we're going to the daycare," a small girl with her hair in a braid stepped into the hallway wearing a backpack. "Come on, let's go see your friends". She picked her up and got her phone and keys. Opening the door she locked it and walked down the stairs. The new year was going to start in a few days and this was her last day at work. She adored spending time with her daughter but she needed to work to keep her under a roof. Walking down the street in her work uniform used to be awkward but she got used to it. The dress was too short but she was allowed to wear stocking to hide her legs. Going into the daycare she dropped off her daughter and gave her a kiss goodbye. An hours walk away was the place where she worked, a small cafe that was locally owned but the owner was also a huge business man. She didn't like the owner of the place but she liked the pay she got as a manager. Going in she saw other workers already fixing up the tables and cleaning the counters for breakfast.
"Hey boss," an older guy walked up to her, he seemed to be around two or three years older than her.
"Hey Oliver, what is it?"
"Nothing, just wanted to say hi." It's been two years and she hadn't felt the same around him. The only reason he even found out where she lived was because he saw her working in the cafe. After that he asked for the available position at the cafe and has been doing well at his job. She's also had some run ins with her ex but he hasn't done anything major to her, just a few threats and harassment but it didn't hurt her physically so she saw no harm in it. She walked into the back room and placed her bag in her locker, she moved her bangs behind her ear and went up the the register. She went on to fix the things in her station and asked everyone to take their places. The day was calm and filled with people coming in and out of the cafe, it seemed nice but there was still something missing. After they closed up she put her uniform in her locker and put on her spare clothes, now she had to go to the daycare to get her kid. Locking the door to the cafe she was stopped on the street by someone.
"Sawako, why are you out so late, cafe closed an hour ago."
"I'm the manager Oliver, I had to lock up the money in the back, why are you still out?"
"Waiting for you to walk you home." It was slightly creepy but she had been living with it for the past year.
"I have to go pick up the kid so if you're gonna walk, keep up." she picked up her pace in the direction of the daycare. She was exhausted but she needed to get there so she wouldn't have to be away from her any longer. Once she got there she paid the woman behind the desk and went out the door, oliver was waiting outside for her.
"You need to go home Oli."
"Not until I know you're safe at home." she kept walking as she held her daughter. Her hair was let loose as soon as she got out of work. Her glasses seemed to reflect the street lights as she passed by the stores of the beautiful city. Oliver followed behind, he kept asking ever since he found her again but she couldn't tell him no. She didn't like him but he didn't give up, he had been trying for so long that it was eating at her.
"I can walk on my own."
"But what if you get hurt?"
"I'm 18, not a child, I'll be okay.
"Fine, just call me when you get home, bye"
"Bye," she hurried home and stopped at the store on the way. She needed to get some things for her dinner and also some things she needed for Sapphire. Paying for everything she went home and unlocked the door. Locking it she went into the living room and set Sapphire down next to her toys.
