Fae's POV
I stopped in awe and looked around the room in front of me, it was bigger than my whole house and the walls stood tall and strong, covered in Terrestrial art. The white stone floors shone to the point where I swore I could see my reflection in them. There was a massive fogged glass staircase that spiralled up around me for at least four stories, its handrails were clear glass that glinted in the light coming in from the dome roof.
"this place is amazing Exe, do you live here as well?" I said as I walked around the big room, running my hands along the cold stone walls.
"Yes Fae I do live here, down in the servants quarter's though" Exe smiled as she watched me "you will be staying upstairs in one of the guestrooms " Exe replied
I followed Exe slowly up the staircase. I didn't like the glass, it made me feel unsafe, almost as if I could fall through it any minute and smash on the stone floors. Upstairs was nearly exactly the same as downstairs, white and cold. It smelled fresh up here like someone had placed flowers around the room. I looked but couldn't see any flowers and wondered where the smell was coming from.
Exe turned and pointed to the left, "down there is the library at the end. Zariahs study on the right side of the Library and on the left is a meeting room" she said, then she kept walking her feet making pattering sounds on the stone floors.
I followed Exe up another set of glass stairs,
"this floor is mostly guest rooms and lounges for guests" Exe explained as she continued, pointing out rooms as she went.
Another set of stairs finally led us to my own floor. Exe turned around to face me looking straight at me with a stern look on her face "The big door down the end is Zariahs rooms, do not enter those under any circumstances, he is a very private person," Exe told me.
"and this door here" Exe pointed to a room near the end of the hall "leads to your suite, go settle in. Dinner is downstairs in the big room to the left in about an hour" and with that Exe left me.
I entered my room with anticipation and was pleasantly surprised. The first room in my suite was a little entrance hall with a single chair and the hard stone floors like the rest of the house. Leading off from that room was my bedroom a glorious space with fluffy white carpet and a round bed situated in the far right corner of the room. The bed base glowed a soft pink light as I wandered around the big room. This room also smelled of flowers and still there where no flowers to be seen anywhere.
In the left corner was a set of magnetic chairs hovering an inch or two off the ground. I remembered reading about this in one of the books I read on Terrestrial architecture. To get furniture look like it was floating the terrestrials place a magnetic plate under the flooring of all the rooms and then chair and tables with opposite magnets are slotted on top.
As I walked over to take a closer look at the chairs my eye caught on a small statue floating above the ground near a wall. Magnetic of course. I went to touch the statue but as soon as my hands touched its surface I heard a creak and a panel of the wall opened revealing yet another room. Interested I stepped into this room realising with a gasp it was a closet. A really massive closet. I couldn't believe my eyes it was stocked with what seemed like an endless amount of clothing and accessories.
Exiting my Closet and eventually finding my bathroom I caught a glimpse at the clock on the wall. Crap shit. I was running late for dinner. I quickly ran into the closet grabbed the closest dress and threw it on rushing from the room. I took a quick look in her mirror before I left, I didn't look half bad. My long brown hair was thrown back in a slicked ponytail and my makeup from before was still intact, the blue gown I wore was elegant but not too formal for dinner and it complimented my dark brown eyes and slim figure. Without another thought towards my attire, I sped from the room down two flights of stairs stopping only when I heard a noise coming from what I remembered as the library. I knew I had a problem with curiosity, I never could keep my nose out of things that were not my business. Sticking my nose into things had gotten me in trouble many a time at home with my mother but my father always seemed to think it meant I had a thirst for knowledge and wanted to understand everything. He liked how nosy I was.
Even though I was late for dinner I couldn't help making my way towards the library doors, wanting to see what or who was in there. I swore I heard someone walking about. I pressed against the library doors pushing my way into the room quietly trying to find the source of the noise I heard.
I heard a soft cough coming from the corner behind me and I spun around coming face to face with a young terrestrial male sitting in a lounge chair with a book in his lap.
"im guessing your the chosen girl, are you not?" the Terrestrial asked softly
"um yes I am, who are you?"
"well I just happen to be Zariah and you have an attitude" The man replied
"Zariah as in Prince Zariah" I scolded myself silently, how could I have spoken to the prince like that
"yes I am Prince Zariah and I'm quite busy, shouldn't you be off doing something" Zariah retorted with a smirk
"well I was on my way to dinner but I see you are in no rush so neither am I Prince Zariah" I smirked back, I don't care if he is a royal. He was rude.
"Hm I forgot about Dinner, I was meant to tell you what I have in mind for you over the food. Might as well tell you now well you are here though, saves me walking downstairs for no reason" Zariah stared at me, his eyes a sharp blue felt like they were cutting into me.
"what you have in mind for me sir?" Fae looked straight at the prince not letting herself back down. She knew what this job had in for her and she was not afraid.
"well even though you are the Chosen girl, I have no plans for any babies in my dwelling, at all" Zariah huffed loudly his face crinkled up in disgust.
"no babies sir? is that not what I am here for" I was shocked to hear him say he wanted no babies, this was my job here. Babies were my job.
"No babies " Zariah's face was blank "Here is the deal, you do whatever you want whenever you want but you stay out of my way and promise there will be no babies in my dwelling" He shifted around in his chair watching me.
"why did you choose me then," I said it before I could stop myself, I was fuming mad. Why didn't he just let his brother have me then.
"I chose you because I had too, my father read your booklet and understanding that you were the best of the best put you aside for me to have as my own little Chosen, he really would love some grandbabies but sadly he will be disappointed for a while" Zariah's voice was stern "And girl keep that little bar in your arm will you, really it saves me the hassle"
The little bar he was talking about was the contraceptive put in my arm the year I turned 13. It was to stop any of the chosen girls falling pregnant before they were handed over to the Terrestrials.
"They only last five years " I said, stupid man who was he to think I would sleep around anyway. I caught myself curling my lip and forced myself into a neutral facial expression.
"well how long since you got it in for god's sake" Zariah said still staring at his book
"four and a half"
"well then you better be careful"
I nodded fuming on the inside "are you coming to dinner then sir?"
"no I am not, you can go"
As I made my way out the door I was interrupted by Zariahs voice "Next time, remember to put on shoes, or do you humans prefer to walk barefoot?"
I turned to see Zariah smirking, looking down at my feet I realised in my rush I had indeed forgotten my shoes, I hurried from the room in embarrassment.
