The Chosen

Chapter 13

My head throbbed when I woke up, I remembered falling over in the lab, being put to bed my Xavier but other than that the rest blurred in my mind. As I pulled myself out of bed, forcing myself to stand it hit me that I had the chance and the ability to save an entire race. I was shocked but I knew it was the right thing to do. I staggered over to one of my chairs plopping down and grabbing a water that was left on the table. Drinking quickly I tired to get my head straight. What an earth was I meant to do now. I guess I was meant to take the tests and suck it up, to just keeping going on. I rubbed my head, my thoughts drifting towards Zariah, it felt like days since I had seen him and I wished whatever business he was away for would hurry up and finish. I was tired, alone and sick and a small part of me wished he was here.

Just as I stood up ready to get dressed for the day a knock on my door pulled me out of my tumbling thoughts. I wondered over grabbing my dressing gown on the way and pulling it on. I opened it to see Xavier standing at the door a smile on his face and a flower in his hand.

"good morning," he said handing the flower to me "May I come in?" he asked politely. I stood back allowing him entry to my room and watched as he walked over to my chairs and sat down. I looked down at the flower in my hand, a beautiful blue it was beautiful and filled my heavy heart with hope. 

"Thankyou Xavier it is beautiful" I said going to sit beside him and resting my head on the side of the chair it's constant throbbing pushing against my temples.

Xavier shrugged "It reminded me off you," he said turning to face me with a worried look on his face "how are you feeling this morning" he reached out and felt my forehead "no temperature and you are up and walking which is a good sign". 

I shifted in my seat "It is still hurting a bit but nothing I can not handle" I said

Xavier smiled "you are one tough human Fae" he said standing up "I have breakfast waiting in the car if you feel up for a quick trip to the lab" he said, he then walked over to the door but must have sensed me hesitation "don't worry I have some pills that will stop you getting sick again hopefully". 

I nodded "ok thank you, just let me dress and I will meet you downstairs," I said standing and walking to my closet, watching him as he walked out and shut the door behind him. 

The car was a different one to yesterday, it seemed bigger and longer but was just as nice, nicer actually. Xavier had some little bread waiting for me and a selection of juices. They tasted divine and the big yellow pill he gave me washed down easily with them. 

As we went in the lift down to the lab I prepared myself mentally for whatever may come about down there. The doors opened and I had slippers handed to me by the Commander. I placed them on then followed him into the main lab where I was greeted by General Rogers. He smiled at me, seemingly more at ease today than yesterday. 

"Okay Fae first thing we are going to do is give you a quick scan, then we will take some sample and we will be done for the day" Xavier said.

He made it seem easy but I was sure from the looks on the Commander and Generals faces that it was not going to be quite that simple. 

Xavier led me out into a different room where big machines peered down onto me like beasts wanting to eat me for lunch "these will scan you so we can see you insides" he murmured to me as he passed me a robe made out of thin blue fabric "could you please get undressed and put this on, tap on the door when you are done so we can start" he said going up to the door and exiting the scanning room.

The thin material felt like it wasn't enough on my skin, it was rough and plasticky. I didn't like it. My clothes sat in a pile by the corner and I had the sudden urge to just rip this thing off and put my clothing back on. I knew though I couldn't, I had to do this to help them, I was in way to far now.  I walked over to the door, the pain in my head now just a dull thud. I knocked fast and steady letting them know I was ready. Xavier entered the room his face stern and business like. I felt bare standing in front of him in just this little slip but I knew he wouldn't even notice. This was all science. 

"okay Fae could you please just stand in the middle of those machines there and we will get to work," Xavier asked as he walked over to a panel with buttons all over it. I stepped up onto a smooth white platform as he played with the buttons.

A whirring sound started and I bright blue light was emitted from the tips of all the machines, it danced across me like a bug. This tiny ray crisscrossed all over me leaving me feeling tingly. The arms that stretched over me moved up and down, left and right until I felt for sure the light beam had covered every inch of my body. Suddenly the light changed red. the red light stung, not badly but it still stung my skin and it felt like it was taking forever to be over. Finally, the whirring sound sped to a halt and the light disappeared. Xavier was staring at something on a screen but he gestured me down from the platform.  He left the room well I dressed and I then followed him back into the main from of the lab.

The chair I sat in all yesterday waited for me in the middle, hesitant I made my way over to it and sat down. Xavier walked over to me with a metal implement I didn't know the name to "open your mouth please fae" he said. I met eyes with General Rogers behind him and he gave me a reassuring smile and I opened my mouth. He scraped the metal implement along my tongue taking up residue as he went. "perfect" he said walking away from me and putting the residue into a little container. I had various tests done on me for the next two hours. Dry skin taken of my elbows, hairs plucked from my head among the many. My head was beginning to hurt again as I stood "Xavier I dont feel so good" I said leaning up against the chair. Xavier handed me a drink and another pill, this one a tiny red one "this should do it" he said smiling at me. I took it fast before being led out by the commander to the car.
