The room was silent after Xavier spoke. It was like we where all in shock. I could feel my hands trembling slightly and I gripped the sides of my seat. I could save them all, but where would that take me, where would I be after saving an entire race. I didn't doubt that Xavier could sense my discomfort but I guessed he chose to ignore it as he grinned down at me his bright white teeth shiny in the harsh artificial light of the lab.
"What happens next Xavier?" I asked trying to relax my stiff body.
Xavier pulled himself away from me and his grin faded slightly only to be replaced by an even bigger one then before.
"I dont know exactly Fae, I guess more tests" he said excitedly before coming to stand behind me and place his hands on the back of my seat "that is if you are okay with that" Xavier said softly
I went to stand up but felt my legs weaken and instead let myself fall back into the chair with a thump, I looked up and met eyes with the General, his face was stern and un caring but his eyes told a different story, they where soft and gentle and I wondered how he had gotten himself to be in this room, a general in the Terrestrial army.
"Yeah thats all fine Xavier" I said with a shrug "truly its a real pleasure to be able to help".
I went to stand up again forcing my legs to hold me. My head felt light but I didnt care, if we where done I wanted to be out of here as fast as possible. I started walking but my legs gave out and I fell against the wall my hand grazing what felt like a ridge in the smoothing looking walls. Maybe it was a door or opening I thought to myself in the three seconds it took Xavier and the General to rush over to me colliding in the process.
"Sorry sir" the General mumbled stepping back to let Xavier get to me, he looked worried but tried to mask it. Instead he stood back and watched.
Xavier had my by the arm and i felt my whole world spinning my vision was blurry and I knew something was up but at this point could not quite figure out what it was.
"Shhhh its okay Fae" Xavier murmered to me pulling me up against him to stop me falling again. I realised I had been whimpering and that sharp pain in my head was not just from shock. It hurt.
Through my blurry vision I could see the commander standing there at the work bench looking shocked and the General with his once emotionless face showing clear worry in his expression. My hands where shaking again as I felt my self sliding out of Xaviers grip, I could hear Xavier voice but it was intelligible seeminly so far away. My vision was narrow and my head a room of pain. Then I felt myself falling, falling for what felt like meters and it all went black.
The smell of Mariahs cooking hit my first when I woke its sweet sent digging into my nose. I then felt the hand on my head gently stroking my hair. I slowly opened my eyes still aware of the sharp pain in my head and the tingling feeling in my feet. Xaviers worried face looked down on me. I mustered up a small smile trying to reassure him I was okay.
"Im so sorry Fae" he whispered taking his hand in mine his eyes filled with something I couldnt figure out.
I groaned as I tried to sit up "why are you sorry, I dont understand Xavier" i grimiced as a sharp pin went through my head "why do I feels so awful"
He shook his head "im not sure Fae, its probably the force feild around the compound messing with you, sometimes it does that to humans, but you will be fine next time, it is the initial shock if you have never been faced with them before I guess" He frowned "your body was weak after the blood being taken so probably just reacted badly to the field" he pulled something out from the table behind him, placing it gently on my head I felt the soothing coldness of ice. "It will be all gone soon Fae, the best thing to do now is rest" he murmured to me as I felt my eyes drooping again.
Xavier stood " i should go so you can rest properly" he said
I let my eyes shut slowly and just as I felt my self drifting off I felt Xavier run his hand over my head one last time before leaving me to sleep.
