Chapter 16

Mason pov

I tug down  my gray shirt again scanning the house. Why did i invite her over i question myself. I walk through the house again checking my outfit. Good i'm acting like a girl. I finish my sweep and stop in the living room were Jess, Jason, Trevor, Kurt, Ricky, Justin, Kendra, and Ben are sitting awaiting the arrival of Ava. I hear the doorbell ring and my heart skips a beat. Nervousness rushes through me like fire as i swallow the lump in my throat. The bell rings again rushing me out of my trance. I race toward the door and stop in front of it. Be cool Mason i tell myself. I open the door slowly and bite the inside of my lip to keep my mouth from dropping. Ava stands in my doorway in tight gray jeans and a black shirt that she paired with a jock jacket and high heeled boots. Her hair is swept around her shoulder giving her a more striking appearance. Her green eyes highlighted by eyeliner. I swallow again "Hey, come on in" I say keeping my voice calm and low. I step to the side my back against the door as she walks in. Her scent reaches my nose making my nerves dance. Stop, you can't like her i remind myself. I close the door and lead her to the living room. She walks behind me and i sense a nervousness about her that i hadn't expected. Is that from me or James i couldn't help, but think. We reach the living room and everybody gives there introductions. Jess was wearing what he wore to school which was a blue shirt and black jeans. Jason wore a red shirt with navy blue jeans. Trevor had abandoned his black shirt from earlier sitting in the living room with just his black jeans on. Kurt was wearing a red checkered shirt with blue jeans. Ricky was wearing sport shorts and a black tank top. Justin had on a black t shirt with blue jeans. Kendra decided to go with a gray shirt with the words "Killin it" on it and black leggings. Ben was last to greet Ava in a green shirt with tan khakis. The nerd of us. Kendra seems to be ecstatic to have another girl in the house other than our one night stands. Kurt sits on the right side of the large L shaped couch. Jess and Jason follow suit. Kendra and Justin sit in the middle of the couch. Trevor sits a few inches away from them and ricky sits next him. I sit on the edge of the couch and Ava sits in the middle between me and Ricky. Ben sits on the edge of the couch cushion near Kurt.  "So Ava, how do you know James" Kendra ask curiosity brimming her words. Ava chuckles and plays with her fingers and stutters "Believe it or not when i first met James he had saved me" She says shocking us to our shoes. "James saved you" Kurt asks amazement in his voice. Ava nods "I have seen both sides of James and trust me you don't see the nice side enough" She says her tone dropping as she says the last part. "How did James save you" Kendra asks taking the question out of our mouths. "It's not important" She says obviously regretting opening up to us. "That's okay" I say interrupting Kendra before she can ask again. I shoot her a look that she brushes off with a sigh sinking back into Justin's arms. I'm starting to get the couple thing. "Listen Ava, Were here to help you and to protect you" Jess says. "I think it would be best if you stayed with us so we could keep an eye on you" Trevor says everybody but Me and Ava agree. I let my jaw fall at the sudden request while Ava squirms under there gazes. "Thanks, but i'm not gonna live with you guys. i'm not some helpless little nerd" She says obviously exasperated. "Ava, nobody said you were it's just it would be easier to keep you safe over here" Kendra says soothingly. Ava shakes her head and stands from the right side of the couch. "Thanks, but no thanks" She says calmly. "Ava" Jess test. "NO, OKAY I DON'T NEED YOUR PROTECTION" She practically screams at us silencing the issue. "I'm gonna go" She say quietly this time. "Ava, were sorry don't leave" Kendra says sitting up out of Justin's arms. "I have to go" Ava says already leaving the living room. I lower my head as i follow behind her. "I'm sorry i yelled" She whispers stopping with her hand on the doorknob. "Ava, you don't have to leave" I say and look up at her. Her greens eyes are trained on everything, but me. "I need to tell you something" She says her voice shaking slightly. She turns toward the door as i nod. "James is watching" She whispers before throwing open the door and racing down the street. I hop out the door and look over the street for her. how does she know James is watching?
