Chapter 23

The river has run wild tonight
It hurts to see you burning

Chapter 23:

“I- I uh” I found myself speechless as I held up two dresses, one in the shade of pastel green and one a dark blue.

“I think this green looks good on you” she holds the fabric of the dress.

“Really?” I ask.

“Definitely. Fit it!”

With a smile and nod I put on the dress in the bathroom. Adjusting the skirt, I caught sight of myself in the full length mirror situated at the corner of the bathroom.

I opened the door to see Annie’s smile grow brighter, if that was even possible.

“You’re definitely wearing that” she says excitedly.

“What do you think?” she holds out two dresses for her.

“Lavender” I tell her. She nods and keeps the other clothes away.

“Wedding’s in two hours. We have to get ready” Annie says, once checking her phone for the time. It just so happened that I was already dressed and all I needed was to fix my hair and as Annie insisted, put on makeup.

“I might need help” Annie chuckles.

“I know, that’s why I’m here” I sit down on the bed as I watch her go around the room, setting up this huge containers of make-up.

For a second, I’m afraid I’ll leave this room looking like a clown. I look at myself in the mirror, my hair was combed but messy. Some parts were wavy and some hung straight. I sighed at the sight.

“Come here” Annie says and she sits me down on the chair, facing the mirror and dresser. She runs a brush through my hair and I only feel like it’s getting worse.

“You won’t be using all of that will you?” I ask as I look at the containers of make-up.

“All that? No.. Don’t worry, I’ll make you look good” I sent a small smile and she started to work on me. Pinning my hair away from my face, she twisted a few strands behind. Before I knew it, it was finished.               

I left Annie on her own to fix herself. I met Gale at his door. He was dressed in a light blue button-down.

“Nice” I comment.

“No it’s not” he muttered.

“Anyway, I’ll be helping Peeta downstairs. I’ll see you in a while” he says and disappears around the corner.

I was left on my own wandering the huge house. Deciding that I’ve wasted enough time, I tried to remember where I started. But all that came to me were corners and walls.

I was starting to panic. I turned right and then another. Then I found the staircase and Finnick looking for something. He spots me and relief floods his face.

“There you are!” he says, walking to me.

“We’ve been looking for you”

“I was lost” I reply.

“I figured” he smirked. “Now go down, Annie’s there”

I nod and walk down and into the gardens. I spotted Annie by the garden’s fountain, seated. I sat beside her just waiting for someone to tell us that we should be seated in the area they set up.
