"Bobby, I'm in a situation. I know I said I wouldn't call you, but I have no clue what to do. You know I'm not a hunter and therefore am not aware on what protocol is." You whispered into the phone in the house and then quickly slammed it back into its cradle when you heard a creak upstairs. You hadn't been able to get away from the hunters and the witch and were panicking. There was no way you'd be able to just sit there in that house and pretend everything was OK. You needed to go check on the bones and then haul ass as far away as possible.
It had been a day since they'd saved you and the witches magic was awesome, to say the least. You hardly felt any pain at all anymore. You'd felt awkward around all of them after accidentally hearing that suspect conversation, so you'd feigned a headache and stayed in bed all day, listening for when you could use the phone without worrying about being overheard. It was probably 1 or 2 am, you weren't sure of the time exactly, you'd fallen asleep during your 'stakeout' and had crept out of the room after you'd realized how dark it was outside and that everyone must of been asleep.
Cocking your ear to the side, you listened for a moment longer before slowly walking back to your room. The house was eerily silent when it came to human noise, but you could hear the occasional creak and groan that came with being in a wooden house.
Goosebumps raised on your skin when you looked out the window and you quickly grabbed your stuff before quietly climbing out the window.
The air  outside the house was cold and you felt your body shake slightly as you eased your way down the ivy that grew on the side of the house.
When you touched the ground you froze again as the gravel made a crunching noise, looking back at the completely dark house. When nothing happened, you shook yourself off and started making your way down the driveway.
Biting your lip you scolded yourself as you made your way down the driveway. "Really? You're scared of the dark and you decide to leave in the middle of the night with no cash and no plan? No wonder you were caught so easily, you're not exactly the brightest bulb." You jumbled under your breath and then felt your breath hitch when a tree branch cracked in the distance. Your heart started pounding faster and you sped up. "I am so not as badass as I thought I was." You frowned and then felt your mood lift when you came across the main road.
Putting your thumb out, you said a silent prayer as an old beat up Honda Civic came towards you and shot the driver your most winning smile when he pulled over next to you. It wasn't the most ideal car to ride in, but, it was sure as hell better than walking in the cold.
"Need a ride?" He leant over and grinned at you and you felt your smile falter.
"Um, no actually." You lied and shifted your feet around awkwardly. "Thanks though." You said and he didn't move away. You could smell the alcohol coming from his car and cringed as you let your eyes roam over his greasy trucker's hat and over to his eyes, which were red and held a look that made a chill run down your back. He wasn't a demon, you were sure of that, he was just a man who looked as if he was capable of a lot of demonlike behavior.
You changed tactics, "Piss off." You hissed at him and he swore at you before pulling away. You almost grinned in triumph, you might not of actually been a hunter, but, you could always count on yourself to be able to give a pretty good death glare when needed.
"Crap." You frowned when you heard a car coming from ahead of you, "He's coming back. Of course he's coming back, you swore at a drunk creepy guy, he's going to come back." You scolded yourself as you tried to brace yourself for a confrontation. As you looked up, your heart jumped around in a conflicted way. It plumetted and also seemed to raise when you saw a black Chevy Impala instead of the beat up Honda round the corner.
"Crap." You repeated. "I'm screwed." The car stopped beside you and you blew air out in frustration.
"What are you doing?" Dean asked.
"I need to leave." You replied and frowned when Sam stepped out of the car. "I have something I need to do." You told him.
"OK, let's go." Dean said and you frowned.
"I can't. I need to do this alone." You shook your head at him and then looked at Sam. It was weird, but you were dreading his reaction it mattered and it really shouldn't of.
"Dean, we'll meet you at the house." A nonverbal agreement was met with their eyes and Dean nodded before driving off.
"It's 2am." Sam looked at you shrugged guiltily.
"I suck at goodbyes?" It sounded more like a question than a statement. "I did not think about this variable." You admitted.
"Variable?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah, you guys being out of the house." You felt stupid for not realizing that you hadn't passed their car in the driveway. You'd been sneaking out of a virtually empty house.
"Bobby isn't answering your calls because we have his phone." Sam shocked you and you stared at him as you tried to comprehend what he just told you.
"Why do you have his phone?" You asked as you felt hysteria build in your chest. You took a step away from him in distrust.
"He's dead." Sam said flatly and you shook your head.
"No." You refused to believe it, even though you could feel your traitor mind trying to convince you that it made complete sense.
"He's been dead for a while. Dean and I didn't even know you existed until you started calling him a few days back." Sam explained softly and you shook your head again.
"No." You felt tears building up pressure behind your eyes.
"If he was alive would he ignore you like this?" Sam reasoned and you felt a tear fall when you realized that he had you there. Bobby had never ignored a calk before and you knew that he would never ignore you given the intensity of your responsibility.
"Why do you have his phone?" You asked him as you wiped a hot tear from your face. The wet spot on your cheek stung in the cold wind.
"Bobby was-Bobby was like a dad to Dean and I." Sam ran a hand through his wind-ruffled hair. "When he died, we took over his phones to help other hunters out there." He replied and you looked at him intently for a moment. He looked sad about it and you felt your heart ache in response towards his expression. He looked broken.
"So, when you saved me, it wasn't by chance. It was because you've been listening to my messages to Bobby." You said flatly. You'd lost all the fight and energy that you'd left the house with. Now, all you wanted to do is curl up in a ball there on the road and cry. How long had you been trying to hide the bones from Bobby for? You'd failed at staying hidden, Bobby was gone and you had no idea what to do next.
"God, I'm so stupid." You frowned as you turned away from him to stop him from seeing the tears that were fighting to be seen.
"I'm sorry." Sam lightly put a hand on your shoulder and you laughed as you sniffed.
"It's not your fault." You shrugged. "I'm just, I just have a lot to take in and I'm sort of screwed. I just, I just need-" You rambled as you tried to gather your thoughts together.
"Hey.Hey." Sam said softly as he spun you around to face him and pulled you in for a hug. You weren't used to PDA, but you didn't want to move in that moment. Instead, you let yourself relax in the embrace and stopped fighting the tears.
"Gosh. I don't even know what i'm crying for anymore." You frowned as you pulled away from him and gave him a shaky smile.
"Come on, let's go inside." He gave you a small smile in response before guiding you back down the road in the direction of the house.
"I need to finish this." You stopped before stepping on the front porch steps. Sam looked back at you and gave you a confused look. " I'm not a hunter, you know that, but, I'm also not a liar and I promised him that I wouldn't let him down. I can't let him down now." You felt relieved as you said it. It was only right and success would also inevitably be your redemption.
"Fine, but you don't have to do it alone." Sam gently told you, making you smile. You knew you'd keep going on even if he didn't say that, but deep down, you wanted him to offer you that.
With one last deep breath, you wiped your eyes and then followed him through the front door.
