"I took a pill in Ibiza, to show Avicii I was cool." You sang aloud happily. You loved that song to death and you had no clue why. You'd actually hated it the first time you heard it, but it grew on you, like a rash. You were singing as you researched the signs that were happening around you. You figured that it was a witch of some sort doing something shady. Witches had no chill, but you hardly blamed them because you knew that if you had magic you'd do shady things as well. It was only natural. There were some disappearances in the neighborhood and from what you'd gleaned, the people who disappeared had been in crappy living situations. Maybe a witch needed some real live humans for some really creepy practices. Human sacrifice, or like slavery maybe. You knew that if you were a witch you'd probably get yourself a slave. You hated cleaning. On the other hand, you wouldn't want to force a person into servitude because that tended to end with being poisoned by a disgruntled employee. Maybe you'd magically clean, like Merlin had done in the old Camelot cartoons.
"What do you listen to?" Dean asked in disgust as he walked into the motel, paper bags with greasy foods in hand. You felt your stomach rumble as you smelled fries in one of the bags.
"Mike Posner." You replied as you turned it up for the bass and then swayed to the music. Dean wrinkled his nose. "You do realize that all music genres are great, not just old-timey rock and roll?" You asked as you grabbed a bag from him and opened it, inhaling the smell of fries even deeper and then sighing in bliss. You were supposed to be on a diet, but, fries smelled amazing and they succeeded in seducing you every time they were waved under your nose.
"I'll stick to my music." He replied as he switched yours off and you pouted in response until he put it back on, this time a bit lower on the volume scale.
"What have we got?" Dean asked.
"I'm not sure." You lied. The truth was that you wanted to be able to solve something on your own. You hadn't felt helpful yet because Dean had a habit of leaving you to do research and taking Sam to do the cool stuff. You felt like you needed to prove your worth. You'd start by finding out where the witch lived and then you'd bring Dean back to it. Sam was onboard with your plan and understood why you insisted on helping physically along as mentally. As the little brother he knew how frustrating it could be to be left out or demoted for "safety".
"I think I'll go research more at the library with Sam." You said as you grabbed your jacket and car keys. You loved your Jeep. Dean had a nice car, but your Jeep was bae in your eyes.
"OK." Dean said through a mouthful of food. You chuckled at the sight and then rushed off to meet Sam.
"He didn't suspect anything?" Sam asked as you sat across from him at the library. You hadn't actually needed to research anything there, it was just a better place to meet away from Dean's watchful eyes and bat ears.
"Nope." You grinned triumphantly at him.
"Just for the record, Dean hates secrets." Sam informed you and you rolled your eyes.
"It's not a secret, it's a.... Delayed truth." You replied and Sam gave a small laugh.
"He'll also kill me if I get you hurt or killed." Sam added and you rolled your eyes again, this time harder.
"OK, we both know it's the opposite way around, he'll kill me if I get his baby bro killed, which I won't because I'm researching." You blew off his argument. "Besides why should he particularly care that much about me? I'm the stranger." You added nonchalantly and Sam looked like he was about to reply but he didn't.
"This is the street that I triangulated he phonecall to. I dont know where she lives, but you can go and find out." He said as he slid the paper over to you that had the street name on it. Before you could grab it he pulled it back and looked at you sternly, "You'll find the house and not engage. You'll contact us before doing anything stupid."
"Yeah I know, killjoy." You muttered as you greedily snatched the page from him and read the street name. It wasn't far from town, maybe a 15 minute drive. "I'm just going to do a little recon and make sure that we know exactly what we're dealing with." You reassured him before taking off.
...........
"Where's Y/N?" Dean asked Sam as he arrived back at the motel.
"Oh, she said something about needing 'girl time', whatever that means." Sam lied tentatively. He hated hiding the truth from his brother, but, it wouldn't be for long and he was unable to say no to you when you asked him favours.
"Huh." Dean shrugged in response before heading out on a beer run.
...........
"There you are!" You said in triumph as you reached the house you figured the witch lived at. It looked creepy, probably smelled creepy and had inhabitants in the past that were creepy. What was it with evil characters in the Supernatural world making it obvious that they were evil? Sam and Dean had encountered gods and goddesses who they told you hadn't looked evil, they referred to one older couple as Santa and Mrs. Claus, but you were yet to encounter normal looking monsters. All the monsters you'd encountered had made it clear by how they dress and where they lived and hung out that they were sketchy. This witch was no different. You pulled over and hopped out of the car a few hundred meters down the road.
Just as you walked towards the front door, everything went black.
.......
"Uh, Dean." Sam said nervously as he checked his watch for the 8th time in the last five minutes. It was past 10pm and he'd expected you to be back by then. The fact that you didn't answer your phone or texts made him even more on edge about you.
"What Sammy? You look as nervous as you did when you asked that girl out to prom in highschool." Dean laughed at his expression.
"Oh, you mean the date that you stole?" Sam asked playfully. He'd been mad at Dean at the time but it was in the past and he just viewed it as an amusing memory. "I lied about where Y/N went." Sam just told him the truth.
"What?" Dean looked angry instantly.
"She just wanted to prove that she's part of the team." Sam defended you and simultaneously tried to explain where you were. "She found out that it's a witch and she just wanted to stake the place out before she involved us in it." He watched Dean grab his jacket and followed him to the car.
"She is part of the team." Dean growled.
"Well, she doesn't feel like it, you baby her too much." Sam replied.
"If she's hurt, I'm going to kick your ass." Dean narrowed his eyes at Sam and Sam sighed. He was already worried about the worst happening. He shouldn't of let you talk him into it.
"I'm sorry Dean. I just, I knew how she felt." Sam said in defeat as the car sped towards the address that Sam gave Dean. Dean didn't reply and instead chose to seeth in silence.
"Look, maybe you should tell her." Sam suggested.
"Tell her what?" Dean asked as his knuckles tightened on the steering wheel.
"How you feel about her." Sam could tell that Dean knew exactly what he was talking about. He continued before Dean could reply, "She thinks that you think she's useless and that's why you dont want her around. She's a girl Dean, she's can't read minds." Dean frowned in response and didn't say anything, but Sam could tell that he was thinking about what he said.
At the house, the boys both hopped out of the car and gestured to each other, agreeing on entering through the front and back doors.
As Dean entered through the front, he stopped in his tracks, in shock and confusion.
...........
"Dean!" You smiled at him nervously. Sam had snitched. That little snitch. You made a mental note to kick his abnormally tall ass later.
"What's going on?" Dean asked as he looked between you and the little old woman you were sitting with. You had a cup of tea on a saucer beside you, and a cookie in your hand.
Before you could respond, Sam came barreling through the back door and then screetched to a halt when he saw the scene. You almost laughed at his comically confused expression, which seemed more amusing paired with the fact that his hair looked windswept.
"This is Agnes. She's a witch." You grinned and Agnes gave them both smiles.
"Tea?" She asked.
...........
That night you couldn't sleep, the adrenaline from the day still ran through your veins. So, you grabbed a box of oreos and made yourself hot chocolate and sat outside of your motel room, on the porch. Dean was just arriving st the motel from some bar or something and you gave him a smile as he came up the steps.
"Join?" You asked and he nodded and sat down.
"I'm sorry." You finally said to break the silence that fell between you.
"For what?" Dean asked innocently.
"For trying to be the hero." You chose the simplest answer.
"We thought you were dead, or worse. We've lost so many people, and I can't even decide if we found you in a preferable situation." Dean shuddered as his mind went back to Agnes' pink and frilly house. You laughed slightly and he glared at you.
"I'm sorry, but we wouldn't know what we're dealing with if it wasn't for her and her cookies were to die for." As you said hat he raised an eyebrow."OK, wrong use of words." You bit your lip awkwardly. "I just wanted to prove that I'm just as useful as you two are to the team. I mean, I get it, you dont want my life to be in your hands, but, that's just it, you're not responsible for what happens to me because I chose this." You searched his green eyes as you said this, looking for the verdict of his opinion.
"That's the problem. I care about you too much to let your life be your problem." Dean said and you felt your heart thump as he said this. It was what you wanted him to say. Your subconscious snorted at you and you realized that you were taking his words out of proportion.
"OK, I'm sorry. But, I need to be included in things in the future." You bargained. "Starting with what we are hunting here."
Dean sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "Fine, but you need to follow behind us and do as we say. Consider it as probation." He gave you a stern look and you felt a smile break out on your face.
"You won't regret it, I promise!" You squealed as you rose up and launched yourself at him for a hug.
"I already regret it." Dean grumbled into your hair. Just as you were about to pull away, the chair collapsed, making the two of you fall flat on the ground. The fact that Dean's hands instantly tightened on your waist wasn't lost on you.
"Oh my gosh, are you OK?" You asked as you lifted your face from his shoulder and looked him in the eyes.
"Yes." He grunted and you bit your lip before bursting out into laughter.
"I am so sorry about today in general." You said.
"I don't know, it wasn't all a total failure." He responded before sending a pointed look at your body on his. Your subconscious told you to move, but instead you waited and felt a smile reach your lips when he moved his to touch them.
