Kirkland was busy throughout the week Kerry got no phone calls no visit the Thursday morning before Christmas eve she call the house his mother answer
"Ms Morris " Kerry greet her Kirkland was at the table she turned to face him
"Kerry its good to here you honey how re you my dear so you call for Kirkland " he was next to his mom reaching for the phone but she stay on talking with her a little longer the press the phone to her chest and whispered "I always think she was the one for you"
She hand him the phone then left the kitchen leaving him to talk to her Kerry had called to see how he was doing and to tell him that on Saturday she would go see her mom if he would be able to come "yes " he answer quickly didn't want to miss out on the chance of seeing rose she was almost like a mother to him mrs cassidy was always encouraging him it would be nice to go out with Kerry too its been a while "thanks for telling me he said good bye and hang up.
When ms parker came in to clean up he left going off to find his mother she was on the couch reading when he sat next to her she put the book away giving him her attention ,
" that was Kerry on the phone"Kirkland said she face him with a smile
"It was her? I thought the voice sounded familiar when I was talking to the person "
He suddenly realized "ah mom " he said with a smile 
"What now "
"On Christmas day I plan to go see Rose with her I should have ask you if you has any plan for us "
" go see her maybe another face that is not  from the family will cheer her up I be been to see her and talk with her I know she's hearing but she's not responding "she rub his back "Kerry could use your support"
He nod his mom was always right he got up "I will see you later I got Christmas shopping to do " he bend and kiss her "love you mom"
"Love you too" she rub his cheek Pat his hand "you could never be more perfect" they both smile at each other he left her  on the couch but she didn't sit for much longer for she herself has her own Christmas shoppings to do and wanted to get it out the way.
Kirkland shop around he bought gift for Jake ,his wife and children ,for his mom and ms Parker ,a few things for kk some he got gift wrap and some he didn't  he puzzle himself of what to get for Kerry he knew he had to get her something so he buy for her a singing clock that make a lot of sounds when it reach midnight he was mind lead in a langereystore and a nice red thong caught his eyes and with put  thinking he got it gift wrapped he went home when his shopping was over later he stop by Jake to drop off their gifts then he went to see Kerry she wasn't expecting to see him today and wish she didn't
"I didn't come at a bad time did I?" He ask when she open the door
She shook her head moving away to let him in, kirky was on the couch playing with his pop up book and the small red car he love
"Hey kk " Kirkland said sitting next to the boy "how are you"
He lift his head and smile
"I brought you a gift  he took two  cars  out the bag a nice yellow and a bright red both we re the same but he giggle and took just the red sitting on the floor to play with it the other stuff he put them under the Christmas tree
" thank you" he said when he look up at Kirkland who smile down at him
"You are welcome he bend over him rub his head like himself he has low cut and his side Burks neatly going down he look at him and some how see a younger him thinking it was because Jake and Monica was saying that
" would you like something  ?"
"You got food in there?" He ask remembering he missed lunch and had ignore dinner for he was hurrying to see her.
"I will fix you something" she told him leaving him with kirky to go in the kitchen to fix something for him.
Kirkland camera was over his neck he stand up looking down on him he look to see if Kerry was coming when he didn't saw her he took the opportunity of taking the boy 's picture 
"Hey" he said getting him to look up snapped him twice when his head came up.
He was sitting in the couch when Kerry came with a tray of boil food from the market with slice fish Curry and steem veggies
"I see you still cook pretty" Kirkland said
Kerry smile "you need a beer?"
Doctor had told him because his sperm Cote was low it was best he lay off the heavy drinking he wanted to build it so bad that he didn't do no alcohol atal he really wanted to be come a father more now than ever for Kerry has a son.
"You got grape juice ?"
The sound of grape juice got kirky to his feet
"That's my grape juice" he said
"Does that mean I can't have some?" Kirkland ask  smiling when he nod soon as Kerry got it for him they both share it she end up have to get him a refill and some for kirky  she nearly  forgot Kirkland was in to grape juice when she came to realise it was mostly what kirky would drink  and he was a fish person just like Kirkland who would hurry home for dinner when it was fish and who only stay for dinner at her house when it was fish he would finish hers if ever she had any left on her plate Stacey would always split hers to share it with him he suddenly remember and started talking about it
"Mom said i was greedy"
"But you were" Kerry told him they both smile she was uncomfortable but she still sit and talk with him until kirky start yarning she take him to get ready for bed she has to put both red car's in bed with him and his pop up book after reading it to him .
When he fall asleep Kerry went back to the living room to find Kirkland stretch out  on the couch his shoe remove and his feet cross over each other and both his hands under his head his eyes close she though he was sleeping when she try to walk by he caught hold of her hand pull her down next to him and wrapped his arm around her waist open his eyes and lift his head off the cushion she felt her self tremble
"He's a sleep?" He ask
She nod he sat up next to her his hands both wrapped around her now and her back to his his chest his cheek in her collar bone resting gentle
"Don't you think it is fair I get a little of your time?" He whispered kissing her cheek she sprung around frighten 
"What are you doing?" She ask
"Kerry it's me Kirkland your best friend what's wrong with you?" He pull her back close to him trying not to seem unappropriated he close his leg and hug her shoulders having simple conversation
"You never told me Jake hit on you back in high school ?"
"Jake told you that ?"
"He did "
Why were you and Jake talking about me ?"
"It was nothing for get it" he stay quiet for a few minutes "Kerry " he called
"Yeah " she answer
"How old is kk?"
Her eyes widened luckily he wasn't looking at her face she cross her fingers and lie
"He'll be four soon why did you ask ?"
"He just look grown, his father came to see him ?" He ask she sprung up again tears in her eyes
"I don't want to talk about it" she sounded angry and Kirkland got the picture he got up put his shoes on say good night to her he was almost going through the door when she called him ,
"I'm sorry I just don't want to talk about it"
He nod "I understand " he left closing the door behind him by she walk to the  window he was already gone she cried her eyes out loosing a whole night sleep. Kirkland met Jake early Friday morning and then went to the photo studio it was almost ready for use just a few more walls needed fixing then the paint job and for it to be furnish
"It will take a little over a week "Bob told him
" that will be good enough"he didn't mind long as it was going to be ready he have lunch with Jake and his family before going home he was on the couch in the darkness when his mother came home around ten
"Not in the mode to go out?" She ask
"What's there to go our for?" He ask with a sigh
"Did you talk to your wife?"
He shook his head he wasn't in the mode for her drama right now and the best thing was to avoid it
"Goodnight then " she kiss his cheek then went off to bed he sat with the phone and his only thoughts were to call Kerry just to see what she was up to, just as he reach  for the phone it rang he pick up hoping it was her but it was Jake Wanting to know if he wasn't going out 
"Man its Christmas eve what you staying home for? you know I can always come get you"
"I'm good really I'm just not
" don't say that you're alright man no one stays home on Christmas eve ,but don't worry man I'll party enough for us"
"Thanks man I appreciate that"
Jake laugh "man!he said over a music that seems extra loud coming through the phone keep Kirkland had to rub his ear in order to clear it he hang the phone on the hook pick it up again dial Kerry number but couldn't send the call through soon as he put the phone back  on the hook it rang he pick it up quickly sighing when Marsha came on the line.
" not who you was expecting
Sorry how comes you're home now and not off having fun With your best buddy Jake better yet running behind your best friend Kerry cassidy don't tell me she s too busy "she said with a giggle
" you enjoy seeing me miserable don't you"
"Don't blame me for your misery has honey its not my fault you can't have children that you want so much I did all I could and when we should be working it out you pack and left I'm not god Kirkland"
"I'm glad you are not sure if you have any privileged at all you would make my life more hell"
"Too bad you feel that way hon but what more can I do I think I lay on my back enough for you its not my fault you can't get me pregnant "
"You know what let's not even talk about it" he told her hanging up the phone rang again he pick it up then put it back on the hook it took a while then it rang he open the line ready to be angry with Marsha but the soft sound of Kerry's voice came on the line "Kirkland " she called he had to take a deep breath before he speak to her it was ten thirty he wasn't expecting her to call but he was glad to hear her voice so much he felt excited "hey Kerry how are you ?"
"I'm good I was hoping you're home with nothing to do, or did I catch you on your way out?"
"I'm home with nothing to do sounds sleazy doesn't it?"
"There's a midnight ball on the fishing pier would you like to go?"
" you asking me out?"
Well it's Christmas  they are playing oldie's but Goodie's up for it?"
"Uh_huh why not;"
"I am picking you up" she told him then hand up he got dress quickly as he was about to leave he ran in to his mother in the living room
"I see you have changed your mind and you're going out ,you look nice have fun" he nod "I just might do that "
"I wish you do son something s aren't worth burdening your self with he had call to tell his mom about his little visit to the doctor because she wasn't expecting his wife to stoop so low in to tricking him to believe that he couldn't get children so she was lead to believe it was true he knew it was what his mother was talking a bout with out her saying he kiss her "I might be out late"
She nod to him closing the door when he went through
He got to the gate just as Kerry pulled up she reach over to open the door for him she for get how fascinating he was in red his favorite colours and the way it stuck to his body make him look kind of sexy she didn't want to say it that way to him to make him think she was admiring him.
" nice shirt" she said
"Thanks you look good ”she look and sound cheerful and hope he won't do any thing to spoil the night,they got to the fishing pier she took his hand leading him through the group of people Kirkland for got what the pier was like on Christmas eve this was his and Kelly spot every year until Marsha came in the picture his last two years before they married he came with her he wonder since she is here who was watching the boy,he dear' s not ask they find a comfortable spot with dancing space the musicians rock it was what they both love the music was ever hot it didn't take them long to start feeling the riddim and started dancing With each other they were both great dancers for in high school the took the lesson together now they keep up with the latest
They were right next to Jake and Monica but didn't see them Monica being the first to saw  them and point them out to Jake
" what ,am I seeing right?"Jake ask reaching out to touch him "you here i though you weren't going out" he whispered
" I change my mind "
Jake lead them to somewhere where the music weren't all that loud it was then Monica greet Kelly and was brave enough to ask who was watching the boy if she was here' something Kirkland wanted to
"He's actually spending the night at my sister I will go pick him up in the morning "
Monica nod "OK Stacey will care for him so I guess you can have fun by the way you look real lovely ,o hope you didn't know waist all this on him "
Kerry smile it was all she did .
"Let us get something by the bar " Jake said dragging Kirkland off leaving  Kerry with Monica they both were uncomfortable for neither of them were use to be in a spot by themselves but by Jake was done flickering about Kirkland and Kerry and got back to were they were they were engaged in girl talk that they were even giggling the way their male companions look at each other like it was a bad idea
"You take forever Jake" Monica said when she turn and saw him
"Sorry baby I had to be searching to find non alcoholic beverage for him"
"You don't drink ?" Monica ask "that wife of yours really did something to you" she said
" yeah she sure has him brain wash "Jake said pulling his wife back to the dance see you later" he called over his should
They were next to them again after a while they were feeling the music they were enjoying them self they left the ball at tree with their arm around each other leaving Jake to wonder if they would have  another night on her couch,at leas he wouldn't be drunk this time he thought with a smirk
Kerry took Kirkland at the fishing village for a early breakfast they were there till five she drop him off at six thirty
"So I see you at what time today?"he ask
" I'll leave at tree"she told him by two fifty he was in the drive way as she was just pulling on her clothes kirky was dress on was on the couch playing with his new train that Kirkland had left under the Christmas tree with some picture books he was still ignoring the yellow car when Kirkland came through the door he got up and ran to him he stoop down to him "hey there man how are you?"
His only respond was asmile
then ran back to the couch
"The boy don't talk much?"
"The boy do have a name"
"Kk?but I don't want to call him that that's not even a name " he said with a smile Hugging her from behind to kiss her neck his head linger
"Why do you always have to smell so great?" He ask rubbing his nose in her neck causing it to tickle
"She shift from his hold turning to face him
"What am I doing wrong this time?"
"We should go" she told him "easing kirky off the couch setting him to the floor instead of taking her hand he took for Kirkland pulling him to the door he turn and look at her and she fight not to caught his eyes ,once  they got outside he walk towards Kirkland car that Kerry   knowtist was bright red like the car he brought for kirky.
Again he look at Kerry when the little boy try to open the back door to his car she didnt say anything when he open it for him to climb in than to climb in next to him and Kirkland closed the door.
