January 10th.

Give Me Love by Ed Sheeran was on the radio, so me and Shawn were singing our hearts out. We were in the car as falling snow covered his black Jeep. I kept my eyes outside the window, singing the lyrics. He reached over to my hand and laced it with his. His eyes locked with mine for a few seconds and a soft smile spread across his face. "I love you." He said, squeezing my hand tighter.

I felt the car swerve.

My head was thrown forward, my heart thumping. The seatbelt locked around my neck. I heard crashes and the sound of breaking glass. "Amara!" A familiar voice said, not even feeling the airbag. I saw a flash of red, and everything went black.

3 Hours Earlier

Shawn and I had an amazing day, walking around the city streets in the light snow that covered the ground. We walked in and out of shops, grabbing some hot chocolate on our way. As we came out of the cafe, he took my hand, leading me across the sidewalk. We found a bench and settled down, my legs over his and my head on his chest.

"Hey Shawn?" I mumbled. "Yeah babe?" "Can you promise me something?" I said. "Of course." He held my hand tight.

"We'll never forget each other. No matter what happens. Even if we break up, even if we stop being best friends, even if we stop talking to each other and never hang out. Just promise you'll always remember, okay?" I looked up at him. "What? Of course Amara, but why are you telling me this now?" His leg shook and he looked into my eyes.

"I don't know, I just wanted to tell you as soon as possible just in case." I looked back down. "I know baby, and I promise." He kissed my forehead. A soft smile spread across my lips.

Shawn's POV

The airbag came straight into my face and my mind was blank. I look over at Amara in the midst of it all and see her head bleeding, her eyes closed. Her body was being thrown around in the seat by the crashed car we were in. My voice was hoarse, but I tried to call her name. I couldn't compete with the noise of the shattering windshield.

- Thoughts -

My mind awoke, looking around at my surroundings. My eyes locked on Amara and I started calling her name. Would she wake up? What if she doesn't? What if the love of my life is really gone?

I instantly remembered the conversation we had on the bench today. Tears were flowing from my eyes, and I started to call 911. Thoughts rushed through my mind. Thoughts of her not making it. Thoughts of her forgetting me.

My hands frantically dialled the numbers and my breathing became heavy. I heard sirens, then everything went black.

Doctor's POV

I walked into the foyer of the emergency section of the hospital. There was an older teenage boy sitting in a chair beside the emergency entrance. His head was in his hands, his torso was moving up and down, soft sobs coming from his mouth. I walked over and sat in the chair beside him.

"Hi." I said. He didn't look up, but still responded. "Hi." He mumbled. "Are you okay?" "No I'm not." He said, taking a long sigh. "Did you see the girl that was wheeled in a few minutes ago?" He asked. He stood up and started pacing the small room. "Yes I did. Do you know her?" "She's my girlfriend and I- I- we were driving home and um the car flipped and she..." He drifted off, tears flowing down his cheeks. I got up, gave him a reassuring hug, and told him it was going to be okay. He sat back down and started sulking in his hands again.
