Chapter 5: The Next Enemy

After we crossed a simple wooden bridge over a river, I noticed a puddle in the ground, and Malik immediately warned me to be careful. It wasn't natural for a puddle to be there after so many days of sunny weather. I glanced at Kakashi, and he nodded slightly to me, which meant he noticed it too.

We walked a little bit further, when Kakashi suddenly got wrapped up into some chains by two ninja. "What?!" Most of the group reacts with. "First one!" The ninjas said menacingly. They pulled the chain taut and Kakashi got torn into shreds. Sakura moved back, a horrified look on her face, and screamed.

"K-Kakashi-sensei!" Naruto yelled before freezing as the ninja appeared behind him. "Second one." They said getting ready to wrap Naruto in the chains and tear him to pieces. Sasuke quickly jumped high into the air, taking a shuriken and pinning the chain to a tree, locking that in place with a kunai. Sasuke landing on the metal hands of the ninja, kicking them in the face and dislodging the chain from the hands. One moved to attack Naruto, and the other Tazuna. I moved to help Naruto, noticing that he was frozen stiff.

"Sakura, protect Tazuna!" I said quickly as I attacked the one going for Naruto. I hit the one who was attacking Naruto on the head from behind with a kick, and when he spun around to attack me, I ducked and punched him hard in the gut. Soon, I had him unconscious on the ground in front of me and Naruto. "You okay there Naruto? I never knew you would do something like freeze up." I said,  looking at his hand when I noticed a cut on it.

I noticed a very small discoloration to the blood from his cut. 'Poison....' I thought, biting my lip as I pondered what to do next. I turned around to see Kakashi tying the ninja to a tree, and sighed in relief. That really was a substitution, then.

"Then, that was..." Naruto turned to look at where Kakashi had been killed and saw logs.

Kakashi relayed the same thing I did to Naruto, before looking at Sasuke and Sakura and complimenting their performance. I hummed softly, also happy for them. They did so well for their first time in this kind of situation!

At least, I was happy, until Sasuke's ego got the better of him.

"Hey," Sasuke said, turning towards Naruto and I, but talking to Naruto. He was smirking a little. "You're not hurt, are you? Scaredy cat."

"Sasuke, come on! That's not-" I threw my hand out in front of Naruto, keeping him from moving as I looked at him. "Don't move, Naruto." I said sternly, and he froze from my tone of voice. Kakashi elaborated for me.

"These ninja have poison in their claws. We need to take it out of you, and quick. It's in your blood, so don't move around. That spreads the poison." After making sure Naruto wouldn't move, I lowered my hand and went to chew out Sasuke, half-listening to what Kakashi was saying as I snapped at Sasuke. It was short and quick, but I think it got the point across.

"By the way Tazuna-san..." Tazuna turned around to face Kakashi, tense.

"W-What?"

"I need to talk to you." I shivered, the look Kakashi sent Tazuna scaring me a bit. He was not happy. "These guys are chunin from the Hidden Mist. They are ninja known to keep fighting no matter what the cost." Kakashi said as we gather around the ninjas.

"How were you able to detect our actions? Even the kid over there was able to notice." One of the ninjas says. I know he was talking about me.

"It's common logic. It hasn't rained in a few days, and it's sunny today, so a water puddle shouldn't exist." I explained quickly.
