NAILS

Every morning was this same. Waking up at half past five, showering, changing, putting makeup on, getting my stuff and leaving the hotel, being driven back to the jungle and waiting in the small white tent where all the families wait for their loved ones to be 'evicted' from the jungle.

Today I pick a chair in the corner, far away from the remaining families.

There's four left in the jungle now, Adam, Joel, Lisa and Wayne.

I watch them move around camp on the big television. I watch Joel as he picks up my aqua guitar and strums it sadly, I feel a sharp tug inside my chest.

He'll be out soon. Tomorrow the winner will be announced. Maybe he'll be out today!

As we watch Ant and Dec move into camp carrying the placards, I half expect them to say that Joel will be coming home, but instead, Lisa is.

I'm sad for her, it would have been lovely to have a girl in the final, but she's come along way and she's such an incredible person.

As Lisa leaves camp I spy Joel sitting on my hammock, swaying back and forth, back and forth, back and forth.

"So do you like him?" Ola queries as she paints my remaining three finger nails a bold Marilyn red.

I shrug, "It's complicated."

"Why?"

I think for a few seconds before devising my answer, "If I'd known him longer I'd definitely want to take it further, but it's been a couple of weeks at most."

"It doesn't matter about how long you've known each other, when you fall in love with someone you just know it, deep down in your heart." Carol chips in, flopping onto the bed, blowing onto her bright pink nails (curtesy of Ola).

"I think you'd make a lovely couple!" Scarlett Moffatt says from the dressing table. "Do you think orange or blue?" She holds up the two polishes.

"Blue!" Ola yells out.

"Orange!" Sam disagrees.

Scarlett huffs, "Fine, lilac it is."

"I don't know how I feel though. I just want to see where things go for now." I mumble as Ola fumbles for the topcoat and spreads it onto my beautifully painted nails.

"That seems reasonable." Carol rubs my shoulder as Lisa walks in from the shower.

"Nails! Can you do mine?" She grins, clapping her hands together.

Ola nods, deep in concentration.

Lisa goes for a statement matte black nail. It suits her.

"What are we talking about?" Lisa queries, perching down onto her bed.

We're all in Lisa's room, we decided it will be the communal space, we haven't told Lisa yet mind.

"Joel and Calla!" Scarlett pipes up.

I feel my cheeks flush due to embarrassment.

"He spoke about you a lot after you left." Sam mumbles, sipping her gin and tonic, well, what's left of it.

My cheeks flush even more.

Lisa rubs my arm. "See where things go Calla. You might be surprised at the outcome." She winks as there's a knock at the door.

At first we think it's room service, but turns out, it's our old friend Jordan Banjo.

"Nails! Can you do mine?"

Ola groans as the tall man chooses a shiny black with silver sparkle topcoat.

"No more!" Ola sighs.

Jordan sits down on the bed in between Carol and Lisa.

When Ola finishes Lisa's and Scarlett's nails, she moves onto Jordan's. "What were you talking about?" Jordan questions, an excited look plastered onto his face.

"Joel and Calla!" Scarlett shouts again.

Jordan rubs his hands together. "Do you like him?"

"Of course I like him," I begin, "but it's been two weeks, I don't want to rush into anything, I want to see where things go."

In the evening, I pick out tomorrow's dress, a red skater dress with a Peter Pan collar. He'll definitely be out tomorrow. Definitely.

I snuggle into my duvet and look up at the ceiling, smiling to myself softly, knowing that I'll see him tomorrow. Just one more night.
