I blend out my gold metallic eyeshadow before shakily attempting to apply my copper cat eye. Luckily, both eyes look symmetrical (for once).I flatten down my red dress as Ola pokes my shoulder.
"Come on! We need to go!" She hurries me out the door, out of the hotel entrance and into our car.
As we do up our seat belts Ola taps my knee repeatedly. "Excited?" She grins.
I try and play it cool, when inside, I'm thrilled. Shrugging, I say, "Suppose."
Ola nudges me. Hard.
"Fine, I'm insanely excited!" I yell, taking hold of Ola's hand and whacking it against the seat.
Ola just laughs with me, tears rising to our eyes.
"Are you going to wait for him on the bridge?" Bye 'him' I'm assuming she means Joel.
I don't actually know. I'm worried that if I do, I'll be intruding on him and his mum and I would hate to get in the way of that, but I made a promise. "I think so, unless I have a major freak out before hand." I chuckle, ruffling my hand through my blonde waves. I haven't straightened my hair today, left it natural, the unruly waves are scattered down my shoulder.
I'm not expecting the mob of people to be photographing us when we step out of the car, but Ola helps me through it, acting calm and carefree. Despite shitting myself due to the mass of photographers, I manage to look calm and collected throughout the process as Ola and I amble away from them to join our fellow campmates.
"Who are we waiting for now?" Scarlett queries. She's standing close next to Larry Lamb, basically the father of the group.
"Just Lisa and Carol." Sam Quek replies.
It is weird seeing everyone out of the jungle, wearing their own clothes, having applied makeup, people in general look much healthier.
When Lisa and Carol pull up in their car (and get mobbed by paparazzi) we set off towards the studio.
The last time I was here was when I got sent home, it's weird seeing where Ant and Dec have spent most of their days when we've been in the jungle.
There's a huge wooden throne sat in the middle of the studio and a few TV screens so we can see what's going on in the camp. Not much by the looks of it.
We are sat in the order we went out, Jordan first, Larry, Carol, Me, Scarlett, Ola, Martin, Sam, Lisa and then the spot for the celebrity in third place.
Ant and Dec trudge down into the depths of the jungle.
"Who do you think will be third?" Scarlett whispers.
"Wayne."
"That's what I was thinking." She gushes.
Carol starts playing with my hair. "How are you feeling?"
"About?"
"Joel."
I shrug my shoulders but it's no use, I'm blushing like crazy, I can feel the heat rising to my cheeks.
"Come on Calla!" Carol pushes, as does Scarlett. They both look hungry for information. Ravenous.
I shush them when Ant and Dec return with Wayne. We all stand up, applauding, rushing up to the ex footballer and congratulating him before Ant and Dec briefly interview him and let him see his wife.
"I knew it'd be Wayne." Carol winks before slapping my shoulder, "Stop avoiding the question! What's up with Joel?"
I sigh. "I just want to see where things go." And that's my honest answer. Joel seems amazing but I highly doubt he'd be interested in a nervous wreck like me. He needs someone more confident, someone adventurous (basically the opposite of me, I freak out walking to the local chippy).
I'm probably not even his type. I'm really skinny, too skinny, people claim I don't eat when I do! It's just a high metabolism, I love food. I'm eerily flat chested (I think it's karma from something I said about someone else's boobs as a teenager, it was just an immature comment which definitely has caused serious karma) I've been the same size since the beginning of secondary school, cleavage? What cleavage? I have all the things most girls have but try and cover up, stretch marks, cellulite, but some guys hate those things! What if he does? Although, saying all this, Joel isn't shallow and mean spirited either, I doubt all thinks about is looks. I hope all he thinks about isn't looks.
I'm a little scared of being hurt again, after numerous failed relationships and heartache. I don't need to be hurt or let down again.
I need someone to understand me and look after me. I need someone who looks after me but doesn't undermine me and accepts that I'm independent despite wanting someone to take care of me occasionally.
Is all that too hard to find in a man?
Wayne soon returns, a happy smile spread across his face after reuniting with Frankie, his wife.
I'm beginning to get the shakes as Ant and Dec announce that the two finalists, Adam and Joel, are approaching.
I don't really understand why I'm this nervous, it's not like I'm meeting him for the first time. I know him. I understand him.
First of all I hear them laughing, and then I see them. Joel immediately searches the crowd to meet my eyes, I wave weakly, he waves back.
Now breathe.
I see the crown. I picture him wearing it.
When I meet Joel's eyes again, he's already looking at me which makes us both blush and tear our eyes away awkwardly.
We all clench our fists, gripping onto one another as they announce the winner.
"The new, King of the jungle is-"
I stop listening.
I watch Joel as he hears his name, the excitement and gratitude etched onto his face. He takes the crown and places it onto his head.
I jump up from my seat and rush through the crowds to meet him (I swear I nearly pushed Dec over).
"I knew you'd win." I speak into his shirt as he pulls me into his chest.
He is silent for a few moments.
"I missed you." He whispers into my hair.
"I missed you too." I whisper back.
I can feel everyone's eyes on us, but I don't even care.
Before Joel walks down the bridge I stand in front of him, blocking his way, hands on my hips.
"I made a promise, to wait for you at the end of the bridge." I smile.
Joel grins. "You'll get to meet my mum!" He yells.
I chuckle before skipping down the bridge (the photographers are very confused).
"You must be Calla! Goodness I've been waiting to meet you for a while now!" A short blonde woman smiles at me, a soft, kind smile, a mother's smile.
"Penny!" I yell as we embrace briefly.
"Thank you for looking after my son down there." She smiles again.
"I was hardly there for long," I chuckle, "he looked after me, more like." I grin as I watch Joel begin his trek along the bridge, the photographers eager and waiting.
"That's my Joel for you." She nudges my shoulder as he approaches.
Joel doesn't even pause to allow the paparazzi to snap numerous photographs, he rushes right up to us and pulls us both in for a hug.
"My girls!" He says with excitement.
I allow him and his mum to have a moment before I steal him away.
"What took you so long!" I shout, punching his arm playfully, "I was waiting in the hotel for days for you to come home!"
"I'm sorry for being so popular Calla." He chuckles, lifting me up from my feet and spinning me around in the air.
I missed you.
