Narrator's Pov

Astrid arrived to her class and sat down at her seat. Her teacher Mrs. Graham stood up at the board and was writing the agenda for the day. Astrid took this time to prepare herself by taking out her chemistry folder and placing it on her desk.

"What the-?" She felt something hit her on the side of her head and fell on her desk. It's was and crumpled up peice of paper. She took it in her hands and began to straighten the paper out. She begins to read...

Just kill yourself already

Her eyes widen softly and she shuts her eyes. She turns to the direction the ball of paper came from and saw Merida and her two friends laughing under their breaths, glancing at her.

Astrid's jaw clenches as she turns her head away from the girls that have mocked for years. Merida and Astrid have known eachother since kindergarten. They were good friends until something sparked up in Merida and made Astrid miserable ever since. Astrid still reflects on her childhood wondering...

What did I ever do to her to make her hate me?

Her head shoots up after being startled from the bell. Class was commencing and she was looking forward to it. Chemistry has been her favorite subject every since she enrolled herself for the first time. Now she is in advanced placement chemistry. She always looked forward to this class, that is until the teacher finally spoke, "Today I will be assigning you a science project. You must create an experiment and record the data in journals you will create. You will work with a partner that I will assign you for the next two months to complete your assignment for this semester. It will be a quarter of your grade so I suggest you begin as soon as you receive your parnter" The class groaned and began to mumble.

Oh God , Astrid thought to herself.

If she gets Merida as a parnter she won't live to tell the tale. The teacher  grabbed her clipboard and hushed the classroom "Quiet now. I will begin naming out the pairings. Tuffnut Thorston and Mary Jane, Rebecca Shear and Micheal Miller, James Newman and Jessica Davenport...

Astrid's mind trailed off to a boy who sat two seats up and one to the left of her. He had aburn hair that looked soft to the touch and glowing emerald green eyes that would hypnotize her every single time she would glanced at them. Astrid sighed wishing he could be her parnter. His name was Hayden Haddock and he...

was Merida's boyfriend.

Still, she had great feelings for the young man, but new it was never going to become reality. He was the guy every girl wanted, the guy with that charm.

And she?

She was the girl the hidden beneath people's shadows and could never fit in. That girl who lost her dad. That girl who just doesn't matter.

Astrid frowned, cheek held by her hand as she continued to ponder.

The teacher continued to name the rest of the class. "...Hayden Haddock-

Merida sat up and swung her hair to the side.

-and Astrid Hofferson, Merida Dunbroch and Eret..." The teacher finished off.

Eret squinted his eyes at the teacher and scoffed. "Son of Eret" The class bursted into laugh and giggles.

Astrid's eyes were widened with disbelief. Her heart thudded against her chest as Hayden turned to Fishlegs, the boy who sat next to him and began to talk to him. Not turning to glance at Astrid at all.

He probably doesn't even know me.

Meanwhile, on the otherside of the classroom, Merida indeed new of Astrid's existence and was planning to end it. Her face became red with anger as SHE was the one that was supposed to be partnered with HER boyfriend. She managed to cool off, surprisingly. She turned to Astrid and gave her death glares and as she watched, Merida grabbed a pencil in  her hand and snapped it in two.
Astrid slightly flinched.

"Ahem, that's enough! Please get your books out and turn to page 197" The teacher instructed.

Thirty minutes later the bell rang for dismissal and everyone gathered their things. "Don't forget to exchange your contact information with your parnter!" The teacher reminded.

Astrid looked up slightly, looking for Hayden. But he was nowhere to be found. She sighed and swung her bag over her shoulder.
