Narrator's Pov

The water hit the sink as it rushed out of the faucet. Hiccup stood outside the door, propping the door open with his foot.

A silence overtook them and it made her uncomfortable. She awkwardly  washed her wrists and winced when the soap made contact with her wounds.

"You didn't have to"

Hiccup's head turn towards the door, furrowing his eyebrows together.

"Stop you from hurting yourself?" He replied. "I needed to..."

Astrid closed her eyes, turning off the faucet. She didn't hear him walk in and only noticed his presence until he gently took her wrists in his hands and looked at them sternly.

Many cuts were scarred on them. Old ones and new ones. He glanced up at her, she bit her lip staring at her scars, mentally kicking herself.

He remembered that same expression. It tore his heart in two when he did remember and how he could have helped. And Now that he has the opportunity to help someone  before it's too late,  right then and there he decided to promise himself that no new ones would ever appear, ever.

He slid his hands down her wrists to hold both of her hands. Astrid's heart jumped out of her chest as she tried to suppress the heat that eventually rose to her cheeks.

"You're going to be fine. I am with you every step of the way. You have me" He said and smiled softly as they made eye contact. "And I'm not leaving you"

Astrid began to smile but forced it away and she softly pulled her wrists back to her sides.

"I don't think Merida will be okay with this" she said "And I don't want to be a burden..."

"Don't say that" He said cutting her off. "No one, who has does nothing wrong, is a burden. You're a person, you deserve better and don't let anyone tell you otherwise"

"But-"

"No buts" He smiled. "You're stuck with me "

Astrid sighed. "You sure are persistent aren't you? Fine" He grins.

Suddenly the bells rings, signalling  the end of lunch. Students begin pouring out from all directions. Hiccup quickly takes out a small sheet of paper and writes on it.

Astrid's stands as he writes slightly being pushed and shove. He noticed and hardens his face almost unnoticeably and his gaze follow those who shoved her shortly before handing her the paper.

"Here's my number so we can meet up today or tomorrow. Or whenever you would like" He said with a smile.

Astrid's heart skipped when his fingertips grazed her as she took the peice. He gave her a smile and turned to walk the other way
"Wait, why do we need to meet up" she asked.

He turned back around. "Well, how else do you think we will work on our project?" He jokes, giving her a toothy grin.

Astrid loses her breath for a moment and looks at the piece of paper. It had his number on it.

She quickly looked up, but he was nowhere to be found. She smiles to herself turning around to her history class.

Astrid sits down at the back of the class gently holding the peice of paper in her hands.

Heather walks in and takes a seat next to her. She looks over at her.

"You look in a good mood. What happened?" Heather asks, slightly giggling.

She looks down at Astrid's hands as she noticed them fiddle a peice of paper. Astrid bit her lip and slightly blushed.

Heather suddenly snatched the paper out of her hand, but only had a glance at it shortly before it was snatched back.

"You got someone's number!?" Heather whispered excitedly.

Astrid bit her lip and nodded slightly

"Who is-"

"Liar..."

Heather and Astrid turned to where the voice came from. It was Merida.

"You wrote a random number and claim it to be someone's because you can't get a real man" she snarled, chewing her gum. She snatches the paper out of Astrid's hands. Astrid instinctly stood up trying to retrieve it.

"If you don't believe me how about you read the number?" Astrid replies with much confidence  "You might find it somewhat familiar..."

Merida scoffs. "I'm not going to waste my time on you".

Merida then takes the gum out of her  mouth and wraps it with the paper and throws it back at her walking to her seat.

Astrid widens her eyes and sighs, sitting back down. She looks down at her hands that rested on her desk.

She feels a hand on her shoulder. She turns and sees Heather with a reassuring smile. "Forget Merida, Astrid. Ignore her, she's just jealous "

"Why would she be jealous. She has a boyfriend and besides no one would want to be anything like me"

Astrid sinks down into her seat and Heather frowns. Then class begins.
