OUROKA P.O.V.

I was watching Monnigan lift that small female creature into his hands. How did those fair soft-skinned beings ever manage to become so cruel and unnatural? She was, in her own way, very beautiful. She was extremely appealing to our kind as well. I could smell the potent scents of every blade in the room from the first moment Lucy opened her mouth to scream. Monnagan made the mistake of thinking that she was challenging him until he finally realised that the young leaf was just scared of his tremendous size. Upon realising that, his scent doubled and it was more powerful than I ever sensed before.

"We need to learn what was the illness she suffered from in order to heal her" Said Vokanu in a chatty voice. "Humans were a very peculiar race and they were robed at all times. It must have been embarrassing for her to expose her flesh like that to complete strangers. When Kindeleye brings garments from the Museum put them on her and take her to the Rest Home. It is a far more comfortable place than the Research Center."

"Yes." I agreed to Vokanu's instructions. "She fears us greatly. Staying at the Rest Home might make her feel a bit safer."

"She is so light," said Moniggan who hadn't said a word since the human first awakened. He was holding Lucy in his big strong arms, staring at her in a bizarre way. "I could break her like a twig if I wanted to" he whispered.

"Well, we're hoping you won't break her and instead you should carefully carry her to the Rest Home where we can heal her," said Vokanu in a joking manner and I was pleased to see that my son knew to show enough respect and bow his head to my old teacher.

It didn't take us long to find the cause of Lucy Collins's illness. She was suffering from a malignancy inside her head. Vokanu was the expert on this area of healing yet his hands were pretty old and shaky so it was me who performed the incision to rid our new friend of the malicious growth on her brain that was causing her headaches. While we were waiting for her to wake up our excitement filled the room next door to Lucy.

"All of my life I was hoping to find a discovery like yours Ouroka! You are one lucky blade!" Vokanu said t o me and to receive his praise was indeed a great honour yet I could not take it all to myself. "In fact, it was Monaggan who suggested we search those parts. I didn't even want to go there. The cold climate seemed too severe yet had I not listened to him our new friend would have remained buried forever."

"I did nothing, Monaggan said modestly, shaking his head. "You are the one that found the jager-pod, father."

"She twenty-four, what time do you propose she came from?" Kindeleye wondered.

"Oh, she's old" Vokanu. "She's millions and millions of years old."

"But how did the jager pod remain intact for such a long time?" I wondered still unable to comprehend Vokanu's theory.

"Humans main concern was longevity. They did everything possible to stay as far away from death as they could" said Vokanu.

"That is because they were cowards. The human leaf proved it today by screaming at the sight of me" Monaggan said with a dark expression on his face. The Dark Race wasn't one of his favourite topics.

"Nonetheless, until they evolved into bionics leaving the homo genus further and further behind if such an unnatural process can even be referred to as evolution, they searched for ways to prolong their lives. Jager-pods were one of those ways. They were designed to keep the human inside of it in perfect shape and condition until the remedy for its illness could be found. The structure of the jager-pods was made of such stern stuff that not even aeons of time could alter it or tear it apart. You have to admit it is remarkable technology for such a primitive species and that was long before the true bionics occurred."

"They just seem weak to me, " Monnagan said shrugging his shoulders. "I believe it was their weakens that twisted their hearts and turned them from The Mother."

"In a sense, you may be right, my son," I said to Monnagan. "Still, there is a lot of things about humans that we do not yet know. We know more about the bionics since they are far closer to us than them. We know even more about the Destroyers but Lucy may just hold the answers to many questions about her race."

"What shall we feed her with?" asked Kindeleye all of a sudden reminding us that our new friend might be hungry when she wakes up.

"Weren't humans carnivorous? You can't expect us to go around killing animals just to feed her, father?" said Monnigan seeming displeased with the idea of killing anyone unless he was fighting off a predator to save his family. It was not in the nature of our kind to kill for food.

"Humans were omnivorous. I shall have the program in the data net find suitable nutrition for Lucy. I'm sure it will not be a problem."

"It must be something pretty great to be in her place. An explorer in a whole new world" said Kindeleye sounding delighted by the idea.

"It's probably lonely too" I added.

"Hailing Ouroka" the data net program said in a gentle leaf's voice.

"Ouroka here" I replied.

"Lucy Collins is awake."

"Thank you, Dagami" I replied calling my program after my first mate.
