THE HAIL

Lucy's P.O.V.

We sat there for a while when we heard a female computer voice call.

"Hailing Monaggan! Hailing Monaggan!"

"Monaggan here," he answered.

Alert status! Level four emergency! The Dorrum has been breached! All warriors are to report immediately!" the computer voice continued and I was fully aware that it was the Ink I was carrying that enabled me to understand the message.

"Requesting location of the breach!" Monaggan said in a serious tone of voice to what appeared to be an automated message.

"Breach occurrence, Dorrum, Savanna Korah left border line" the computer voice responded.

"Requesting identification of breaching wildlife."

"Identifying breaching wildlife. Wildlife identified. Vorkha. Number: 8. Gender: male. Danger: level 21."

"Affirmative. Monaggan on the way" Monaggan said and I could sense the change in his scent from sweet to spicy.

He lifted me up and then sat me back down on the transportation chair.

"Lucy, the drifter will take you to our dome-home. I will have to detach and leave you for a while. I intend to meet you back at our house."

I felt a rush of panic so I got up and asked him: "What is going on? Are we in danger?"

"No. You are safe but the Dorrum, the Sowan city has been breached by dangerous predators and all warriors need to unite to eliminate the threat so I have to go."

I looked at him feeling profoundly confused. "But you're a scientist, an Observer!"

Monaggan shook his head and said: "My father and my brother are scientists. I am a warrior. That is my calling. Now I must suit up and detach."

He turned from me entering into a something that could only be described as an upright capsule. I watched as robotic arms extended around him dressing him in what seemed to be a full body armour including a helmet that allowed only his mouth to be visible. I had no idea what the armour was made of since it was unlike any texture or metal I have ever seen. All I could say about it was that the colour of it was shiny and silver and that Monaggan looked smoking hot wearing it. Attached to his back was the double-bladed golden spear that I saw him use in the jungle to protect me.

When he got out of the capsule fully dressed and ready for action I felt like I was staring at an alien demi-god or something.

It didn't take me long to realise that he was leaving me all alone to go fight some deadly dangerous creatures.

"Are you coming back?" I asked trying not to make my voice quiver.

"I will do my best" Monaggan replied and I could hear the sincerity in his voice. "When you reach our dome-home go inside and stay inside until I come back for you. If I die my family will take care of you."

"Dying? Why are you talking about dying? What the hell?! You can't die! Why don't you let me come with you? Maybe I can help you" I said protesting.

"No. You would die" he said with a certainty in his voice that was almost brutal. "Remember to stay in our dome-home. Don't go outside until the threat has been eliminated." the last part wasn't an advice. It was an order.

The capsule then detached serving as an elevator and I soon realised that this drifter was, in fact, a combination of two vessels. The one we were in and the one below. I saw Monaggan leaving me in the other one and a million questions started popping up inside my head.

"What if this drifter breaks down and I end up in the jungle somewhere? What if Monaggan gets killed? What if... oh shut it, Lucy!" I said to myself, doing the only thing that I could do in a time like this, I sat down and I trying to calm myself.

The drifter landed after a while on a beautiful green parcel surrounded by giant flowers and fern. To be honest the place looked like a garden of Eden. There were gentle creatures and wildlife roaming about the place and the first thing that I noticed was a remarkable dome-like building on top of a nearby hill. There was even a stone-made path leading to the house. Speaking of green architecture, it didn't take me long to realise that the entire place was completely self-sufficient. There were fruits and vegetables growing everywhere and when I saw a fruit I immediately recognised as an ulli I picked a few and brought them with me inside the house, enjoying their sweet juicy taste along the way. The beauty and the gracefulness of the cob-like-made walls and the energy field windows were breathtaking. There was light coming in from everywhere and the place looked like it was alive. There were plants and small trees with soft moss and stones on the floor instead of a carpet. Whoever designed this place really knew what they were doing. It was the house of my dreams. A home in the nature of natural building materials. If only humans utilised this kind of eco-technology when I lived in my own time, things would have certainly turned out differently for us.

The inside of the house was pretty cosy. It had that nature feel that made it look like something special in my opinion. The house spread far and wide underneath the hill. It had a kitchen and a bathroom and one huge bedroom that had a tree growing through it in the middle. Instead of a bed like you would see in a regular human house, the entire floor was covered with some soft gentle plant life thus turning it into a bed. The room was almost as big as approximately four living rooms. The inside of the house was also filled with butterfly-like creatures and they were allowed to freely fly through the energy fields. It was beginning to get dark and I was pretty amazed to see that the butterfly-like creatures were glowing in the dark like fireflies. The real lighting inside Monaggan's house came from shining star-like bulbs that didn't seem to be attached to anything at all. In fact, some moved with me through the house. I fell in love with this strange looking house because it was a lot like the earth-ship homes I envisioned in my mind for people from my own time. It was even more than that, the fact that I just got there and already felt like I was at home spoke volumes.

I wanted to try other food too but I wasn't sure what was safe for me to eat so I finished the ullies that I've brought in with me and when I was done looking around the beautiful place I couldn't help but worry about Monaggan. I knew it was stupid and that getting attached to him was not an option for me but I couldn't help it. There was a golden double-bladed spear hanging on the wall, along with some other strange looking weapons that I couldn't even name. They all looked pretty sharp and pointy so I was quite sure they were deadly too.

A mild case of an anxiety attack came over me so I tried to push all the million questions and fears deep inside my sub-consciousness. I delayed thinking about the situation I was in and about everything that happened to my race. The grief I felt over my own kind was overwhelming and I knew I that there was no way I could allow myself to think about all that for too long or I would lose my mind entirely. Instead, I went into the huge bedroom and laid down on the bed floor looking at the huge tree lit up by a million butterfly-like creatures, reminding me of Christmases long gone. The butterfly-like creatures were kind of making a humming noise that made me feel drowsy and I'm really not sure when I fell asleep but I was awakened in the middle of the night by an alarming female voice loudly saying: "Hailing warrior Monaggan! Hailing observer Ouroka! Hailing observer Kindleye! Hailing starter Naeran! Level one emergency! A dome home has been breached. Hailing warrior Monaggan! Hailing observer Ouroka! Hailing observer Kindleye! Hailing starter Naeran! Monaggan home-breach! Creature: vorkha! Number: one Gender: female Danger: level 5. All warriors are to report immediately! All leafs are to remain inside the dome-home! Hailing warrior Monaggan! Call failed. Hailing Ouroka! Call failed. Hailing Kindleye. Call failed. Hailing starter Naeran. Call failed."

The computer voice kept calling people but no one answered. It felt like there was an earthquake going on outside. Some giant Godzilla-like creature was walking around the house in the bright moonlight and all I could only see it's big fat black legs. Whatever that thing was outside, it had a massive body and it managed to rupture the energy-field border that I gathered protected the Sowans. Fear crept into me and I hoped to god that someone would answer that call and come get me.

"Hailing all warriors! The Dorrum has been breached! Creature: vorkha. Number: four. Gender: female, male, male, female. Danger level: 10. Repeat; Monaggan home-breach. Hailing Monaggan! Hailing Ouroka! Hailing Kindleye! Hailing Naeran!"
