The next few days were filled with unpacking, organizing, and 'working in' the new house as my mom liked to say

"Sooo?"

My mom looked at me with an over excited expression. I gave her one of the most confused looks I could muster up. Not that it was fake. I was confused, I didn't even notice her standing there until she said something

"School? Are you excited? you start tomorrow"

She frowned a little at the fact I couldn't remember.

"Excited? that's not the word I would use"

My mom rolled her eyes and left me to Finnish unpacking my room. about half way through I started to get really hungry. it was only 3 o'clock, so I decided to take a quick break. I sighed and walked out my room. when I walked past Chris's room, I noticed everything was still packed neatly in there boxes 'lazy bastard' I thought to myself, making myself chuckle a little bit.. I made my way down the large staircase. once I got in the kitchen I rested my elbows on the granite counter top and buried my face in the palms of my hands. I was exhausted, I revived zero sleep last night, the air mattress had some how made it even worse. I think half way through the night the plug un plugged, so I woke up laying on a deflated air mattress. if you have not realized I am terrible at blowing up air mattresses.

I was so focused on how tired I was, I did not hear the doorbell ring the first time. Or the second, Or the third.

"Niki! Get the door!" my dad called from upstairs. Sounding a little annoyed. I sighed, straightened my self up and walked over to the large front door. Once I opened it up, there was a women standing there, with a ridiculous grin on her face. She was on the shorter side, with shoulder length blonde hair, she was wearing a floral sun dress with wedge heels.

"Hiya!" she was a little to happy for my liking, not that there is anything wrong with being happy, I'm just really not in the mood.

"Hi?" I replied with a small smile. My greeting sounded along the lines of 'what are you doing on my porch you crazy ding bat' kid of way, I grimaced and proceeded to listen to her

"I'm Cathrine! But you can call me Cathy. and you are?"

"I'm uh Niki"

"Well it's nice to meet you Niki! if you couldn't already tell, I'm your new neighbor!"

"Oh uh great." I was so confused, very confused, I was to tired to here her whole life's story. Why she started telling me it in the first place I will never know. I know she is just trying to be nice but really?

Once she finished telling me how she had lived in her house for 7 years and grew up in this town, my parents walked down the stairs.

"Well hello!" my mom said politely. my dad just nodded, he has always been a man of few words.

" You must be the owners of this fine estate! I'm Cathrine, your new neighbor."

" Well it is lovely to meet you Cathrine! would you like to come in for some tea or coffee?"

"Why thank you! and you can just call me Cathy."

My mom smiled and nodded. when I got the chance I slipped away, to go Finnish un packing my room.

About 15 minutes later I was called downstairs. I was kind of hoping that Cathy had gone. I was not in the greatest mood to be dealing with people peppyness. Once I reached the bottom stair, I saw that she was still seated at the island in my kitchen, having a conversation with my parents .

"Niki! Cathy has invited us for dinner tonight! doesn't that sound lovely?"

I gave a weak smile and nodded. as I was about to turn around Cathy spoke up.

"Now how old are you sweetheart?"

"I'm 16"

" Oh good! you are the same age as my son, Jacob! My daughter Lindsey is in first year of university."

"Oh thats, uh, nice." I reply trying to sound intrigued

"Oh I hope you two get along! Maybe he can show you around on your first day!"

Again, I smiled and nodded I turned and headed up the stairs. before I was out of earshot my father told me I get changed, because I looked like a 'bum'

Once I got upstairs I put my iPod on its dock, and let 'river below' fill up my room. I put on a pair of jean short, a billabong tank, with a cream shrug. I pulled on my favorite white converse, to finnish it off I pulled my long brown hair back into a messy ponytail, washed my face and put a layer of mascara on.

Chris walked into my room just as I finished getting ready.

"Yo Niki, you ready to go?"

I sighed let out a "mhm" and followed him out of my room. I was not looking forward to this dinner.
